Friends, a note about color discrepancies because I did such a deep-dive in this video. I noticed when I was editing the overhead footage that some of the shades (especially the metallics Lithium and Symbiosis) actually look pretty different from the picture even though I am literally saying as I unbox them that they look exactly the same. That’s because from where I was sitting, under that light, they DID look the same as the picture. Conversely, the orange shade Catatonic looked much darker and more brown to me in person, but in the footage it looks pretty similar to the picture. Later on, when I’m face-to-face with the camera and I hold up the palette, the footage shows Lithium & Symbiosis matching the overlay of the same picture exactly. This is just a testament to how much lighting affects color, which is what makes it so difficult to accurately depict makeup in online mockups or pictures. In this video, I unpacked the slight differences in colors because I’m obsessed with color and I really enjoy making those distinctions. But to me, the actual takeaway is this: not only do we not have control over the exact colors of the makeup we buy online, but we also don’t have total control over the way makeup looks on our faces, because as we move through the world, we are lit from a variety of angles and with various light sources. It might be a relief to consider this if you are feeling compulsive about tracking down a very specific shade of a specific product-remember, even your “holy grail” shade is not always itself when you wear it. This is also why duping the vibes works. Nothing in life stays the same :) Side note, when I went back and examined the palette designer even more closely with this in mind, I noticed that some of the virtual shadows seem to change a teeny-tiny bit as you move them around in the virtual palette, almost as if the light is catching them from different angles. This is partly because colors are affected by whatever other colors they are next to, but it’s also because there is a slight gradient effect on the pans to make them look more real, so they seem to change because each of the four edges of a given pan contrasts in a subtly different way to whatever it’s flush with. It’s even noticeable when you put several of the same matte shade into the virtual palette and then move them around-it could just be a trick of the eye, but it seems as if different positions in the virtual palette reveal very slight differences in the color, which is how color does behave in life. Lethal TRULY did the most when they created this palette designer, it’s so fun. Thank you for watching!

This inspired me to play around with mixing some of my mattes. The shade baby face has been calling to me from The Child palette. I have the avacado palette and I keep reminding myself it's basically the same. So while watching your video I was putting it to the test, and no its not the same. However, if I mix my matte pastels with it I might be able to get the same effect. I'm going to play around with it some, bug it appears that Lethal does have a very similar shade.

Another potential factor is the color accuracy of the screen you're using when shopping. Computer and phone screens vary pretty widely on their accuracy and user settings also have an impact. Just something to be aware of! Great video, glad you got to try lethal, they're one of my favorite brands

I designed a 9-pan-palette as a gift for my friend by choosing inspiration pics first, and after ordering I also created a "product photography" and added shade names and the inspo pics to make it a whole thing... SO much fun, I totally recommend it for a custom gift and creative outlet 🥳

ooooh. that matte periwinkle in the inner corner of the shiny bronze eye is STUNNING. ive been searching for some inspo of my next depotted singles palette and i think this might just be it. (now that i think about it i might also just pop in a light matte red, i might just drop it all to do that palette right now)

Yes! I’ve never thought to use a more muted colour in the inner corner for a neutral eye. If I go for a pop of colour it’s usually something bright or punchy. I’m not big on blue, but I can see me doing something similar with a muted mint or peach colour. Or even a lilac. Mmmm want to play with my eyeshadows now!

This was the most pleasing makeup review I've seen in over a year hands down. Going to check Lethal out right now! Your custom pallette was gorgeous. My lethal custom palette was the first eye shadow palette I ever bought for myself, and it's my first what I would call adult palette. I'm so so glad I chose lethal because the shadows really are beginner friendly. When I first got it, I used the lightest taps of colo, but now I can really build up the pigment. The only color surprise for me was one that I thought was going to be a forest green with gold reflect but is actually more of a deep teal with gold reflect. It's still beautiful, and I'm actually glad it ended up a little different because it pushed me out of my comfort zone a little more.

I recently made my first Lethal palette and first Lethal purchase ever- a small six pan of all greens. I played with the palette builder for days. I absolutely love it. The formulas are fantastic. One metallic I didn’t even feel sure about that I used has ended up being my favorite pan! (Cryptic) I love when that happens!

I spent hours and hours playing with the palette builder in the spring and then talked myself out of a huge purchase... and I'm so glad I waited. Lauren posted a Lethal video recently and I was hit with a lightning bolt of inspiration: dupe It's Freakin Bats with this formula (I'd buy the original if it were available). I found that the descriptions were dead on, even when the photos weren't exactly accurate. I've been having so much fun with it 😍

That taupey-greyish shade is what we used to call "mushroom." In any palette with 12 or more pans I must have a deep dark brown matte, an off white or cream matte & neutral toned transition shade (not too orange not too grey) & a shimmer highlight/lid shade. A black in nice too but not necessary if there is a deep plum or deep green option. It depends on the color story of the palette tbh. I just want a full tonal range from lightest to darkest with some midtones & a good ratio of shimmer to matte. I have deeply set prominant orbital bones & hooded eyes with a lot of space between lashes & brows. I need to really sculpt & shape before going in with color & texture. I never even wore shimmer or color until the last 8 years or so because eyeshadow formulas just weren't very good in the past in my experience. Eye primer, improved formulas & improved skill level on my part (plus the time & money to play with makeup) has made a big difference. I'm not really a "one & done" shadow person anymore :)

Ohhh I need to go play with my makeup. I don't have these tones and I doubt they would flatter my skintone and undertone but I have silvers, gun metally shades and navy blue. I'm super inspired Hannah! it's always amazing to see someone's taste change, ebb and flow. Edit you did say having some shades to blend those blues into.... I didn't think of it that way. I'd love to recreat this look you're wearing on my deeper skintone , I think a white eyeshadow base would help. Funny I don't know about Hannah or whomever is reading this.... but I'm really into cool tones at the moment and the contrast against my skintone. Not sure if it's cause spooky season coming up or my former goth days creeping back into my makeup either way I'm here for it.

Love my lethal palettes. For this 12 pan one, i did 6 shadows and 2 face pans (blush/bronzer). Prefer the 12 panner verses the 9, since the 9 isnt an open canvas where you can fit whatever you want.

I think they have four or more shades that are sheer with a hint of colour and shine, they all look white-ish in the palette builder but they each have their own reflect, I have the ones that shift pink, blue and green and they all make for beautiful face highlights or quirky ND Sparks tools - i think there is a more yellow reflect one that might fill that gap called "Serene".

thank you for those swatches I'm really bummed about Surged it looked like a lavender on the website and in fact it's a real blue! They should pay more attention to this because it can be really deceptive for consummers! So thank you for preventig me to spend money on something I didn't need :)

Living in Europe, Lethal have been my go to for singles. Their formulas are lovely, though can be selfish. In that they like to be alone or with a friend, not a party. You cannot layer too many shadows. My favourites are Void (cool tone spring green matte), Vertex (a bright, acid green satin) and Lucid (a deep blue/green base with gold shift shimmer). I'm a green girl. I also have stargaze and also find it likes to play alone. I'm here for that though. I can always top with something from Glam Shop, Kaleidos, Davinah or Clionah if I want more sparkle. Your colour story was really different to what I'd normally go for, but you are turning me on to a taupe shimmer. Might have to seek that one out 🤔

I wanted to try this brand for years because of all the reasons you said. I finally broke down last year when they had reduced shipping. The thing I adore about Lethal is the colors. They always pick unique tones that just capture the zeitgeist. Their customer service is excellent and I think they're a good company. Sadly, I did not find either of the formulas to be anything to write home about. The mattes are very pigmented, but they apply a bit patchy and are difficult to use. It's just easy to make a mess with them, because as you are packing on color it's easy for it to get everywhere. I do love that super dark cool toned brown, though...of all the shades I ordered, that's the one I reach for the most. The metallics are better, but honestly I have a ton of mettalics that are as good. The other thing is shipping from Europe is slow and expensive. To be fair, this is often an issue with indie brands. When an indie brand sends out free product to lots of influencers that I watch, it's really, really hard to resist and I feel like ultimately there is this weird bias that forms. The people who aren't paying for the makeup naturally love it, but when you think about one of those custom palettes costing $60 and up, plus shipping, it really becomes like a big splurge. I have to look at my very large eyeshadow collection and make tougher choices. I was glad to try them, but I probably won't buy again from them....Having said ALL of this, I used a more classic eyeshadow technique (layering mattes from light to dark in arcs in the crease) and maybe I need to do more of an HLP style.

Hi, Hannah! I'm so inspired by your eye looks and would love to see a video of your favorite shadows for sheer washes of shine. I feel like I don't have any shadows that are as glossy and almost wet looking as the ones you usually have on. (If you've already created a video like this, would you mind guiding me to it please? Thank you!

It’s interesting that you say that about not doing matte eye looks because they are so easy to mess up. I find Natasha Denona’s matte eyeshadow patchy as hell on me. The only matte shadows that I find super easy to blend are Pat McGrath, which are a whole different story; Hindash’s Beautopsy palette, and Viseart. Tempted to try Lethal now!

Ooooo so glad I read this comment. Despite my many eyeshadow purchases over the yrs, I'm still a novice at eye makeup and have decided to revamp my collection and further keep it small until/unless my skills develop to a point worthy of investing more. So I finally bit the bullet and bought the ND mini retro last month as the pinks are a favorite for me. I had a feeling the silver tone wouldnt suit me well but to have only 1 shade I wouldn't use frequently didn't bug me too much. That 60s shade though? Man I can't get it blend well at all. I've tried several different brushes, including Fude such as Rephr and tried skipping primer but in the end I'm dissatisfied and it's going back. I'm debating trying one of the other minis but your comment worries me and suggests I'd be in a similar place. I guess I need to think about it some more as I really prefer the size of these palettes, both for portability and quantity as I know it'll take me yrs to go through them since I don't wear eye makeup daily (or weekly for that matter).

@@gianninal5455 If you're looking for mauve mattes, I would absolutely recommend the Viseart Midsommer palette, or Divine Rose 2. The shimmers in the Viseart are not up to much though.

@@evashackel134 funny, I intentionally traveled to particular Sephora locations to get a chance to swatch some PMGL offerings thinking DR I was gonna be my perfect palette (DR II seems too bright/bold for my taste) and ended up feeling like bronze seduction would suit my skin better. I was gonna pair it with the ritualistic rose quad (but now I think I'd prefer one of the holiday quads instead) and then chickened out and figured there's no sense in spending that kind of money. I don't have the drive to wake up early enough on work days to do eye makeup, and I'd be too nervous to travel with palettes of that expense so I'd mostly wear the eye makeup on weekends (if even that) so that's why I felt the ND minis would be better for me.

I've lately been getting into eyeshadow - I just love those grungy shimmers like Hannah does - and been considering gifting myself my first palette and have been loving to play with the lethal palette designer. I'm hesitant purchasing though, having never touched their eyeshadow formula. I've noticed I enjoy really soft, creamy feeling formulas that tend to have oils in them. I'm wondering how the lethal ones feel since they don't have oils in the formula. What are your experiences with the feel of the eyeshadow formulas from lethal?

♥ Lethal. Spent over a year in Lethal's brilliant palette designer realm, creating, fantasizing so many utterances of the same palette, with slight adjustments over and over and over, but that is part of the pure joy of it all, is it not? ~~ the foreplay of it all, the process of creating and recreating and playing and fantasizing and wanting ~~ sometimes you just never have to click add to cart, the designing, the play, is sometimes just enough. ....until "they" hit you with a 30 % off sale ~~~ then it's go big or go home?!?! I went big and brought, bought, it ALL home ~~~ a 24 pan custom beauty last March. No regrets. Hannah, you are so right on the placement of a pan juxtaposed to another, in person and online ~~ the colors play off each other, ones that you feel are the same tonally are so very different when placed next to each other, ones that seems cool can become warm, ones that appear purple become blue. Yes, yes, placed on the eyes how different exactly? ~~ as you stated, depends on our own tones how a hue pulls on us. I think to purchase shades online the descriptor of the shade is as important as the photo ~~~ when they say navy or ink blue and you see plum, I saw plum as well, but couldn't get past the word navy/ink and taupe is in the eye of the beholder ~~ no taupe evident in Lithium, but still a lovely shadow. side note: if you ever go back for more you may enjoy Synth, Altitude's sheer shimmery duo chrome sister lilac blue cousin. side note 2: if anyone, ever, ever has an issue with their order from Lethal ~~ never ever worry! { Not that you will, they are amazing.} ~~ but just incase. They are so hands on, right there, on it. The customer service is and actual Lethal employee, who truly care and stay in touch with you. Thank you HLP ~~~~ I may have to use your code and dip back in for the ones that did not make the cut, by no fault of their own, on the first go around......or I just play once again.
