Hi everyone and welcome to what I think is the best video to date!
To begin with, I should disclose that the shoes were provided by Lethato but as you will see a free product should not be enough to make you say positive things.
These shoes are "Handmade" in India with a Handpainted Patina and retail for $199 with a Blake Stitched construction.
Although my disdain for Meermin burns like the fires of Mount Doom, there is no person in the right mind that would not spend $11 and not buy from an established brand like Meermin with a superior construction ($210 Goodyear Welted).
The fatal flaw however of this particular pair is the unbearable, shocking squeaking of the inner lining. Possibly the worst shoes to wear if you are a thief. I sincerely hope that only my pair had this issue.

This is my first Misiu Academy video and I will watch your full catalog as I am just starting to have an interest in shoes beyond ecco with a more distinguished build and look. You establish quite a lot of credibility as a high end user and I appreciate your frank review of these boots - the price point attracted my attention. Do you have any thoughts about Thursday Boot Company? Specifically, I am quite taken by the look of the wingtip boots and a few friends (who admittedly don’t know shoes) have enjoyed theirs.

Hi Douglas, while not the biggest expert out there I know have studied bespoke shoemaking and I am quite qualified to speak about deeper topics, as you will see in the more recent videos. Thank you for watching. I am not a fan of the marketing crap Thursday and such brands push. They are not 600$ boots for 200$ etc. after you get past that, they seem to be exactly what they are: decent shoes for $150-200. If you go with that mindset and don’t expect perfection (which you shouldn’t under 1000$ anyways) then you will have a good time. Just avoid Lethato…

@@MisiuAcademy First, thank you for taking the time to reply - earned a sub there my friend. Second, I am holding on the Thursdays. The wingtips are $235 and, as an utter novice, I can’t help but wonder if I just wait to have a few more dollars I couldn’t get a much better dress boot. I agree that there is a lot of “hype” with the Thursdays and I’m guessing a lot of free shoes got handed out. In any case, I will steer far clear of Lethato!! Finally, I told my son your “What happened to the frog…he got toad” joke and he laughed his ass off.

I had a pair of trickers that squeaked. They told me just to wear it and it will go away. Needless to say it didn’t but because they were creases they wouldn’t take them back.

@@jeffreygoss8109 sad to hear. Some remedies include putting talk powder or shoe conditioner at the place that squeaks. Cheap shot by them though I would have returned.

Apart from the squeaking, they are not terrible but also not worth 199$. I wouldn’t waste my money.

So they're overpriced, but they're fine. They come in a box you don't like, but it's fine. They have visual flaws but they're fine. The heels are a mess, but they're fine. They aren't worth it, but you should look at Merriman instead. But you hate, *HATE* Merrimans. soooooooooo.......... If I have 200 bucks give or take and I want to buy a nice pair of Chukkas or Chelseas that look good with a semi-casual look and a pair of dark jeans, where should I be looking?

I think you got it wrong or maybe my English was not good enough. Meermin is perfectly fine at that price point for the man that has a budget. You should absolutely try Meermin if your budget is at those points. With frequent sales, you might be even able to grab some great boots by cheaney, trickers, cobbler Union or J.Fitzpatrick! Don’t spend your money on lethato.

@@MisiuAcademy I know you have to, but this is just ridiculous. Honestly, this shows that the owner/maker is living in a world of his own, and never bought high quality shoes, or have only used low quality shoes. There was a brand I contacted locally in Malaysia, complaining why my boots' insoles has a hole right after I tried them on (bought those crap online). I do ask them if they know what quality means. They tell me that they do buy local competitors' shoes/boots to do R&D. I ask them to get at least Allen Edmonds on eBay, and they asked me what's an Allen Edmonds... I HATE this kind of self absorbed brands.

@@MisiuAcademy Hehe the company I mentioned don't even have a face or name behind it. The only source I could find is a blog post, and without any sources linked. I left a negative review on their FB page after the problem with my boots, but got threatened to take it down. I told them that I won't budge as people need to know the truth. After much hostile back and forth, and realising that they are unwilling to improve, I relented and retracted my review. Here's the website of the brand: tomaz.my/. If you'd like to show the difference between good and bad shoes, I can send you a few pairs that I have retired. You can even cut them up with a knife! Do whatever you want to them, I don't care. And the gall of them to sell their shoes for US$100 (US$1 = approx. RM4)!!!

It's a 2 year clip and probably your channel was just building, but it's a bit of a 💩 move to keep the shoes after you reviewed them negatively. You spoke your truth, did your clip, did some damage on the false image they were trying to represent, BUT kept them and afterwards sold them?😮 You got them for free, didn't like the quality, but it's OK to sell them to another sucker?

Sir, I sold the shoes for the amount of money I paid import duties and taxes. That was a very small amount and the owner is very happy. I have way too many shoes now and I always request if I can ship them back.
