Just looking at the new 4, they don't have the scary vibe the OGs did. Nancy in particular is a weirdo, and she's hostile in the beginning. She pushes Sarah away and tries to stop her joining the group. You get the sense she wouldn't like you. The original made you feel that they were real outcasts, not many people liked them and they didn't like many other people. This one doesn't feel real.

Pretty much! And the difference between the sequels that work vs bomb is how much they pay attention to a character’s evolution. Most of the time sequels don’t work because not only do they not pay attention to the OG appeal and write a good story, but also they make characters do OoC actions for their evolved selves. That’s why Toy Story and Terminator 2 worked so well vs most others tend to bomb. They could also make it episodic and independent rather than a direct tie. Tl;dr - I agree and most of the time sequels bomb because of laziness/executive meddling.

I do appreciate how the first one deals with a number of things, like how power can so easily corrupt and make friends turn on each other. This Reboot/sequel seems like yet another mid 2010’s movie attempt to show that “men bad”, and “girl power”. It’s no surprise that when these elements are the focus of your movie as opposed to actual character building you end up alienating at least half of your audience. Women can be strong and great without needing to make the bad guy a dude who’s a literal MRA. Fundamentally it makes here mother look like an absolute psycho for ever marrying a man with such insane beliefs about the world and reality. I dunno, I think I’ll just be sticking to my 90’s craft and call it a day.

Based on the animals they carry in the beach sequence, Nancy is carrying a snake and Sarah a bird, just like Rochelle carries a fish (water) and Bonnie a butterfly (fire, by discard). Also, I always thought it was symbolic that the first time we see Sarah she came from the sky. And the part that Nancy ask for all the power of Manon she pointed the knife in the air "as above" and then stick it to the earth "so below". Meaning that she will absorb all the power of Sarah that is in fact the only one who has natural powers.

Honestly, if the endgame was to show that Lily is Nancy's daughter, then the reveal could have been built up better and perhaps should have had more focus. Granted, I haven't seen Legacy aside from this review, but it feels like a weak ploy to throw in at the end. If the true focus was supposed to be the four girls coming of age and into their own powers, then just focus on that. Give them the great character development the OG had. It could have been better if the director and crew had a clearer focus of where they wanted to go. Tldr: if this was meant to be a true sequel, then treat it as one instead of masking it til the end. If this was meant to be a coming of age tale of 4 witches finding their voices and powers, then focus on that. Don't mix the two and act like it was a tour de force of storytelling and twists when it wasn't.

I'd like to see a sequel with the OG cast and how they are years later. I imagine Nancy free from the asylum and trying to get her powers back, but having to guide other witches and bind them if they are going to fall. Sarah is happy, and an advanced guide to the others. Bonnie and Rochelle remained good friends but didn't have any magic. Then they've got to team up again to help a new witch who has discovered the power and has to choose whether to use them for good or evil

This reminded me more of The Covenant than The Craft and for the record I like both of those movies.

This movie has an amazing story but a lot of ppl don't see the real story behind the story and I'm happy you pointed it out.

I love the skeleton of the Craft Legacy. I feel like I didn't get to know these characters but I definitely wanted to, and I wish this script could be expanded into like.....6 hour long episodes?

The original did it fine in 2 hours. Why do you need 6 hours to do what they could do in 2 back in the 90s?

Did not even realize she was in the original the worst witch. The remake on netflix is really good. Also as a black man it makes me sad what true went through

She's also in the sequel to "The Wizard of Oz" called "Return to Oz" which isn't a musical & is way darker. I highly recommend it. It's a classic.

Yeah its buttcheeks that they didn't give Rochelle any character development/backstory like the other girls

What the fetch is that period scene? You'd think it was written by a guy. Never have I ever bleed through my clothing like that, even when caught off guard when it would break through the OCPs. And I have stage 4 Endometriosis that has caused such heavy periods that they land me in the hospital with anemia.

I really liked your video. My wife is a longtime fan of the original and we saw Legacy for the first time a couple of nights ago (I hadn't seen the original by that point - just watched it tonight for the first time). We did not enjoy Legacy at all. I kept waiting for there to be consequences for them using their magic and being super powerful. Unless I'm forgetting something, I'm pretty sure Timmy didn't kill himself because he was put under two spells, he was murdered by Adam. So other than that one bit, they suffered literally zero repercussions for their magic use. I also think they tried too hard to introduce so many social justice themes and romance that it didn't leave any time to develop the characters or magic. I really enjoyed the original movie, though.

3:44 explains why we never get the backstory for rochelle. she was obsessed with being blonde and pretty like the white girls. i knew there's some middle class drama with her storyline. legacy has great concepts...but poor execution. so much info in behind the scenes that were not used or shown properly lol
@Racqualh3 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say that she was obsessed, she just wanted to feel like she belonged and was an actual part of the swim team. I think her parents were cut from the movie because have a black middle class family was not "normal" back then and nobody would've believed it, while that ideology is false and soooo racist it's the only one that makes sense. Plus the fact that maybe the director had a 1 black person quota to fill for "diversity". Anyone extra would've been unnecessary 🙄

I’ll admit I’ve seen the original craft so many times I know it line by line, shot by shot, scene by scene to heart lol I just couldn't bring myself to watch the new film which is rare for me, as I do try to be open minded.

Do you feel that way about the "super smart- lethal -WASP- Male -take- on- the- international -bad -guys" theme IN ALL MOVIES ...EVER SINCE THE BEGINNING OF MOVIES AS WELL? UGH. I AM NOT SAYING YOU DO NOT HAVE a poignant observation, but do you call those movies the " boy power/ woman-hating"? Over it.

some people were protesting the occultism in Harry Potter in the 90s, but those people were considered fringe and fundamentalist. Harry Potter was the biggest cultural moment of that era and far bigger than anything since. Also, it was already more or less mainstream for young people to all consider themselves “weird” outsiders. and there were plenty of coming of age movies at that time too.

Sounds like this could have been a really good series - Netflix Hulu It’s so hard to really do backstories and real character development well in 90 min... Tv/streaming is just sooo much better than most movies these days

This movie dissapointed me! I loved the original craft it was amazing. The girls didn't seem to have a real bond on screen like it was forced. 😩😩. They could've built this story world up so much & gave them more witchyesc things to do 🤦
