LeTourneau L-1850 loader has established new standards for reliability and productivity. One of the most popular in LeTourneau's lineup, the L-1850 loader is offered with an operating payload capacity of 100,000 lbs. (45,360 kg) and a 33 yd³ (25.23m³) bucket as standard equipment. The LeTourneau L-1850 loader is designed to center-load most haul trucks with payload ratings of 190 to 320 tons (172-290 m. tons). This LeTourneau L-1850 loader was filmed in Hunter Valley, Australia. Werewolf Graphics: www.werewolf.com.au

Hi Qlfarting, This is what I've found in LT's product brochure: ''The loader is controlled and monitored by the LeTourneau Intergrated Network Control System (LINCS). This provides useful operational information such as maintenance, diagnostics, shovel weights and measure capacity, cycle times and other management information which includes the control of hydraulics, TRACTION CONTROL, engine revolutions and limiters through the interactions of the master control module (MCM)." Cheers mate!

Great video!!! It's funny that monster still has a backing up alarm... like "Oh, glad I heard that alarm because there was no way I could see it coming (...)"

Loaded under one of these in QLD Australia this operator has an bad floor to work on ,our operators would not pick that bucket up until product was boiling over the top of bucket,The truck backing in was using the J pattern to back in you need less room to do this ,And he is backing in onto the dog bone on the arm,After watching this it tells me how good our trainers were

The MOST interesting thing about these loaders is they have no transmission. They have TRACTION MOTORS. I guess that accounts for the cool engine sound.

Alex Williamson. The engine does sound beautiful in real life, they thunder under pressure. But the huge engine is only a generator... These loaders are electric, Which makes that movement all look so seamless. Each wheel has a massive magnetic motor, independently controlled by computer. you do not use brakes to stop, you simply switch it into take your foot off the pedal and it stops almost instantly. Or if you are to lazy to take your foot off the power, just switch in into reverse and it will change direction in second ( weighing in around 220 ton, that's impressive). If you parked it beside a two story house, you could walk out of the second story balcony, into the cab. A beautiful feat of engineering to operate.

Danny Gornall is the electric option a must? Why isn't it largely used on smaller vehicles also? I'd like to know the features of the drive train; does it use AC? Is there some mega capacitor to store a part of the energy like the hydraulic accumulators? There must be a huge reduction gear, right? I'd like to know everything about this method. Thanks.

Truck driver obviously is a little nervous working with a loader. The way that the loader had to pull a little forward shows this. The way I teach drivers is to back up to a loader is to come in a little closer to the loader and turn out when they are at the mid-point of the loader. When they are at a 45 degree angle, stop and back up. Working in a production, they want you to be a little faster than this driver was; the driver took way too long. Loader operator is great. I love the L-1850s.

Somewhere I've read that these loaders are unable to exit the mine themselves and need to do it some other way (unspecified in that article), is it true?

Seemed to me as if the operator didnt have much bucket time yet. They were getting maybe an 80% load in the bucket. The last load he seemed to finally get about a 90-95%

It seems that as the loaders get larger, the payload gets smaller in relation to the size of the machine. I know a Cat 988G can lift around 60,000 pounds, and I believe it only weighs about 130,000 pounds.

So that's about 160 tons in three minutes. That would take a bloke with a shovel a week to move! And he'd have a very stiff weekend in the pub. I desperately need a job but - doing it by hand, no thanks! I'll drive the truck.
