The Authority On All Things R&B
On this week's episode of R&B Money, Tank and J Valentine are joined by singer/actress/designer LeToya Luckett. They will discuss what it was like training to be a founding member of what became Destiny's Child. LeToya will talk about her experience in performance bootcamp, being prepped to perform at anytime, in front of anybody. Her eventual transition into being a solo artist and overcoming fears of inadequacy and simply not having the group by her side on-stage, to tails from some of the roles she has played, including a serious moment between her and Tank during a take of The Preacher's Kid. Listen and Enjoy!

It’s always been bittersweet for me to see LeToya. I’m probably gonna always think about how this woman could’ve had two or three more DC albums after The Writing’s On The Wall and I *hated* to see my favorite group fall apart. But then I’m truly happy to see LeToya succeed with solo albums and as an actress. I still could enjoy DC after she left, but it was *never* the same. But again, it’s amazing to see her out there always working and thriving.

The song is “Love Ballad” by LTD sang by the incomparable Jeffrey Osborne. LeToya has always been my favorite DC member followed closely by Kelly. She seems like a really down-to-earth person. She had me hooked on “Leave it to Letoya” from the first episode. And, I love Sis's style. She needs her own clothing line, NOW; however, I'll continue to support her collaboration with J. I remember being 13 years old and her video of "Torn" premiered on 106 & Park. And as I'm watching the video, in my mind I thought she was a brand new artist out of nowhere. Then about a month or two later, I learned that she was the original member of Destiny's Child. How I learned was when I was watching the "With Me" video for the very first time ever on Music Yahoo and as they did a slideshow introduction of who they were and her part came up and I saw her name and I was like, "LeToya??? Wait a minute, that's the same girl who sang that Torn song! That's tight!" 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I'll never forget that moment. 😁😃😌😏

First, Letoya looks so purrty. Very happy for her. I felt her sadness when she talked about her insecurity being created while in DC. The same with LaTavia. That whole experience brought alot of scars to probably all of them. However, God blessed Letoya with a gift of acting that not everyone has. See how He works. Coming from where she started and the whole world watching, what she has done in the entertainment world is truly remarkable. Hope she knows that.😊 I had to pause the video and listen to Torn. Then Regret was recommended. And who do I see in that video-Tank and JV. Lol This was another great interview. Keep them coming guys.

I really enjoyed this episode. You all are so personable . Letoya is so down to earth and classy. She’s balanced because you can see some hood but in a dope way. I loved the honesty. She said a lot without saying so much . It didn’t come off bitter. Honest and warm. She’s hilarious as well. She was always my favorite DC member as well. This episode was dope and her top5 songs were dope because all those songs still play in my playlist. So dope.

I'm really enjoying this podcast. I've only watched 2 episodes and I'm already loving what this podcast touches on. This is so original. There should eventually be a R&B Money collaborative/compilation album or showcase for R&B artists past and present. You guys are bringing back those feelings of love for R&B music that reality shows about past R&B singers haven't done. UnSung & NPR's Tiny Desk concerts have done this as well but this podcast is giving R&B music a space, a place to tell it's stories at length and unfiltered. Keep going with this - please. You guys are filling a void that has existed for some time now.

I agree with Tank...and I agree that LeToya is underrated and missing as well. I think with the right team in the studio and the right songs, LeToya would REintroduce herself, shock the world and make a new name for herself. I think, in my personal opinion, that the DC situation and Beyonce in the forefront and blowing up, overshadowed LeToya and the other members where it definitely intimated and effected their confidence. But I think their individual voices speak for themselves and just didn't have the opportunity to shine like they should have.
