Clay sculpting tools will make the epoxy shaping much easier- less fighting back and forth. Great job none the less. Love the DIY.

Since the rail is intact, maybe cut a TLR mold in half and experiment with making light bearing holsters with this mold? Would be interesting to see

Not for this. The mk23 requires an adapter for lights. Which is shown in other videos.

Suggestion: Once you have it super clean, make a mold box, make a silicone cast and make split molds from that with Alumilite, might even sell on the website.
@FalTacUnlimitedLLC Жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same thing. I usually pull a vac with .06 dex and fill that with allumilite.

Good morning Iggy, Would you give your opinion comparing the hardness of the different fillers and materials when cured, comparing the softness when sanding? It's easy to tear up a mold when sanding mods to the original mold prop. Steel Stick - Water Weld - Epoxy - Blue Gun PU - Palehorse material - Play Dough - Alumilite Polyurethane Good 1/8" MDF - Cabinet Toe Kick (extra stuff from my job) This gun mold has to be the toughest MF you could have demonstrated. It looks awesome, great craftsmanship! Thanks, Greg
@FalTacUnlimitedLLC Жыл бұрын
Steel stick ND waterweld are definitely the hardest. Bondo is softer for sure imo. PH uses renshape which is a super soft material. Easy to machine and sand. Blue gun is just epoxy. Easy to manipulate as well.

Great job on this build. A lot of work has gone into it. I did notice though on some of the builds you putty up the rails and on this one you didn't. How come? I am going to have to try and learn how to block out the trigger guard on press forms, but can't wait to get into a vacuum press. I like watching your videos man. Learn something new each time. Always have questions though lol.

No need to cover these rails as there weren't any slots and the end isn't closed. If that makes sense. It'll help with wobble and still allow a smooth draw.

I stopped buying molds. 3d print them from stl files in high resolution, then pla lost cast them with aluminum. You can use soda cans for the aluminum, just have to remove slag from the top of crucible before casting. For 3d printed trim jigs I make a relief mold with mold max 60, then cast with urethane resin.

Do you think the difference in retention gap was due to cutting the mold in half. I know the bandsaw blade is not very thick...but, that is some width lost on the mold. Just a thought.
@FalTacUnlimitedLLC Жыл бұрын
Absolutely. Just wasn't expecting that large of a gap. I probably could get away with not using the 1/8 plates. But worked flawlessly anyways
@zacksmith1878 Жыл бұрын
Any chance you can make a video on how you plan to add the RCS/retention drill guides? I imagine making the holster and unfolding it to add them but I’m sure you know a better way. Would be good to know if I get a vac mold that doesn’t have them and I want to add
@FalTacUnlimitedLLC Жыл бұрын
How I do that is similar to the trim jig video. Drill your holes while folded. Unfold and place on the mold. Mark the hole placements. Then your options are drill the points or add nails/pins to the center and cut a little above the form

Only critique or comment i have is . Shouldnt you have added tape or something to build up the thickness before gluing the halved down? This would be to make up for the blade thickness that it lost when cutting in half. And maybe did. Thanks for the video

generally with molds that a prepped with 1/4 retention. the 1/4 inch is removed from the center of the firearm. works great!
