Dirt is one commodity that does not follow the normal supply and demand economic models. There is an infinite supply (of dirt) which means it (dirt) should be uber cheap. However, if you want to buy some you have to pay through your nose to get it. If you have some to get rid of it (dirt) should sell at a good price. However, you will never find a buyer at any price. The only one who makes money dealing in dirt is the excavator. You pay him to haul yours out and somebody else pays him (the excavator) to have.it dumped at his place. Crazy.
@porkchop53896 жыл бұрын
he has to pay for the machine some why
@samvt6 жыл бұрын
you're not factoring in not all dirt is equal. some is unsuitable for most things, no one wants it. some is great fill, and costs to bring in. easy to sell. also, sometimes you need it gone NOW. no luxury to let it sit for a buyer, need to haul it out to complete the project. so many factors.
@chevyford1006 жыл бұрын
I live in Argentina, something far from there, and it's the same thing with dirt. If you are the owner of the dirt for you it will be a waste and for the machinery guy it will be a gift, which then can, sell
@toddreynolds88756 жыл бұрын
It aint to often you get to sell it to a customer as the same time your trying to get rid of it off another job. Once in awhile it happens but not often. I know been there done that excavation for 32 yrs and still ripping
@chevyford1006 жыл бұрын
if you can sell it on top of the truck as we say here, it's easy money, but as you say, it does not always happen, but you have to know that some materials are difficult to sell, and you have to store them and for that you need a specific place and everything that entails

A question for someone who knows more then me... would it be more Efficient to rent a giant wheel loader to load out these trucks on a job like this?
@cthorsepower46866 жыл бұрын
Carson Schifsky not that i know more than anyone, but on a job like this with sediment you would need to dredge it out of the lake, move it to a location to dewater ( typically close to lake so water runs back into the lake) and then move it again to a location hard enough for a loader to operate and load a truck. Without getting stuck. A decent sized loader is around 6 yard bucket. With would take two buckets to load these trucks approx. how fast Chris is it is way more efficient to live load right from the lake. Hope that answered your question.

When I was driving a quad I took 20 tons out where ever I went. Sand,asphalt,rock,dirt didn't matter to me. 🤷♂️. When sc was in a state of emergency because of a hurricane we was hauling 95,000 pounds of rip rap to fill in rail roads that washed out.
@terrybible15453 жыл бұрын
I noticed that 1 truck had no mud flaps. (20,09 min mark) . I've had to replace 3 windshields ( $300.00 each) from these kinds of trucks over the past few years and theirs no way to make them pay for it. It should be illegal to load an un safe vehicle.

I know you've talked about it before, but I still don't understand why you guys don't get quick couplers so you can change buckets, you could halve your load time on that kind of material. yeah, you get tippy with the bigger bucket, but only if you load over the side extended out nearly all the way, easy to adjust so that doesn't happen. To me not being able to change buckets for material and conditions is akin to buying a socket set without the 1/2 and 9/16 sockets in it....you guys should consider it
@NZDIRT6 жыл бұрын
They won't, means all his thumbs would be out of match with the buckets then too
@stevelindleyoforegon35876 жыл бұрын
no, that doesn't matter, shouldn't be using thumb with muck bucket anyway. We have 5 excavators ranging from 90,000lb machines to 10,000lb, all have thumbs and all have quick couplers, and we have 2-3 buckets for each machine, yes, if you are doing lots of work with the thumb then use the bucket that it was fitted to, but other than that the cost of a quick coupler pays for itself in not much time, I guess that's why there are so many out there
