Iskall mimicking Stress: "I think it's gonna be ugly is the problem." lol 26:22 It can still be the permanent build! I know how to salvage it. Just build a huge 3D Ren head complete with minister top hat with his chin resting on the top of the portal and his arms surrounding the portal with his hands gripping the utensils. imagine changing the portal build every few weeks (but never exactly, you need some randomness to keep them on their toes) and make it vary greatly in quality and size.and sometimes maybe dragging other hermits along and getting them to build and "help" you(maybe help isnt the right word with stress's contributions).

I actually think the hanging idea from rocks has a lot of potential if did correctly. I imagined like a Stonehenge with three rocks and the portal hanging from the middle. To give it a magical look, I would fragment the rocks in some spaces, as to leave them floating and give that cracked and mystical sense. Would take some fiddling with voxel and world edit to do the rocks in a cool shape, but it would surely look fantastic.

An alternate idea to make a classic portal epic came to mind. Have a giant forearm reaching out of the ground, with a bare minimum sized portal resting on the palm of its hand. Then as the season progresses, excavate more and more of the complete statue from underground like a massive archaeological dig, with each bit of progress revealing something surprising about the statue. Maybe each phase of the excavation could be done by a different hermit.
