I would love one of these, you could enter me into the draw, but I am in Scotland (UK). I used to have a radio that used to listen to everything, but it was full of valves/tubes, which used to heat up the shed, but one day it filled the shed with magic smoke. When I opened it it had performed a good self-destruct sequence and was full of black soot. The shed smelled of it for months! I never replaced it, I should have done as I used to spend hours listening to it.

Your shop lights may be interfering. PS: Since you watch some of the radio repair people, see: *Jim Burns* he really tares them down. --- We live in the Redwoods of Calif. were we get fires. In fact, this past summer, we were out of electricity for 2 weeks! So this Radio would be a plus to run off of our car when it needs charging. So, please put me in the drawing!

I agree about the lights, a few weeks ago I changed all of them out to LED. The radio receivers like it better lol. I think the big issue is when I built this addition I cover the floor, roof, and walls with metal sheeting. Really makes it quiet when tuning receivers. Con is I get no cell phone reception in the shop. This radio would be nice for situations like yours, low battery consumption, good sound, easy to charge.

Hi Buddy, I would like to be in the radio giveaway. I just got my Technicians licence a few weeks ago. I've been repairing audio electronics for 40 years. Decided to get into RF. I had picked up a Yaesu ft101e a while back and decided to restore it. Been watching your playlist on it and recapped it recently. Don't quite have it up and working yet. I need to get an antenna together. Won't be too difficult since I have a wind turbine on a 60ft guy tower with a ginpole that it's on. I think I can mount an antenna off the side of it. Thanks for your knowledge on the Yaesu. It helped me out tremendously! 73, KC3WXU

Not sure if you can ship to the UK but I'm super keen to get one of these. Fingers crossed! I used to have a Sony multiband radio when I was younger and spent endless nights with a long wire strung out the window, enjoying trawling the bands and trying to decode morse. I've always fancied airband, so this fits the bill perfectly. I see Amazon UK stock them now, so fingers crossed I might be in with a chance to get this before Christmas! Love the channel by the way, as someone who has enjoyed electronics from the age of 5 and then went on to study it, I'm always taking things apart out of curiosity and to learn how things work. Really appreciated that you did a tear down on this, now I'm going to find those chip datasheets and find out what makes this cute little radio tick. 😊

These tuned-circuitless pieces of garbage fall over from cross-modulation overloading even when the strong signals are far away in frequency. As well as that, they generally have many more spurious responses and generally more insensitivity in crowded bands.

I have heard this several times since they started producing the "radios on a chip" style units. And one reason I am not giving this particular one away as I want to do more experiments with it. With more and more high-end units going to this technology, I like to see just where we stand, have not seen much on YT as far as testing. If you have any links with data please share.

@@TheRadioShop I've have found no other comments on the performance of these chips. Only my own opinion from having fixed and used some of these radios, and while FM works ok for the typical tradie radio, the AM was abysmal. The one chip radios may work better if they were used with a tracking tuned circuit.
