I have no idea who you two are, but I guess I've watched enough Hades LPs that youtube immediately recommended this to me. It's a great game. The concept of a character driven, dialogue heavy roguelike is so bizarre, but it works so well. Supergiant simply does not make bad games.

I have been waiting with bated breath for this series to start. Can not look forward to this enough. And, as proof of much much I was looking forward to this: The unofficial official BLG HADES thirst list! Any mention of how hot a character/how into a character either Ian or Casey is or a flirt directed at a character nets them a mark on the list! I am not writing down time stamps, but adding tallies in a spreadsheet while watching the episode, so I might miss a moment or two or count a longer piece about a singular character as only one tally! BLG HADES! LET"S GOOOOOO!!!!!! BLG Untitled Goose Game? Let's goooooo!!! I really appreciate that Ian is taking the time to read and understand the boon descriptions. That'll help a lot with deciding what to take when once he has a better idea of how the game works and how he wants to play a run. Casey is going to be attracted to, like, half the cast, aren't they? That Meg fight was intense to watch! Count on Ian to lose basically all his health right at the start then still manage to get her down to past half health before dying. The writing and voice acting in this game is so amazing, as per the standard for Supergiant Games (you should consider playing, like, all their games). Your instant utter distaste for Zeus is fun to see and very well-earned. Great first part! I look forward to more.

As someone with Greek heritage, I hate when people call the Underworld hell. That's not how it works! That's not how any of it works! But I am glad you're airing this series. It is very gay.

Hell? No indeed, the Underworld ain't that. But it's not dissimilar to Helheim (albeit with a less malevolent ruler), so I can see some conflation happening along that axis.

I understand the misconception. Although I feel Hades does a good job of more or less indicating it's the land of the dead and Hades is the god of the dead. Blame Christianity for the generalization of afterlife and they're being a heaven/hell. I think him going to hell with this place is more or less just a subtle nod at the people who don't understand Greek mythology yet.

I'm so happy you guys are playing this game. This is one of the very few games that I have no visual reference for yet I have somehow managed to beat twice despite being completely blind. People may complain about a setting called God mode but it primarily just gives you more defense. Which to me means that I can focus on on the game which becomes like a hacking/puzzle for me. Since I have no visual reference I have to focus on the sounds, and positioning

Each Olympic God specializes in a different fighting style, with their Boons reflecting their styles. Their general specialties are: Athena; Reflecting enemy projectiles back at them, increasing defensive stats. Dionysus: Poisoning enemies so they take damage over time, increasing HP restoration and cap Artemis: Landing critical hits, increasing the chance and effectiveness of critical hits Zeus: Damaging groups of enemies gathered together at a time with lightning.

Honestly, chain lightning from Zeus is also just good on single targets and in general. Especially great for fists though and basically mandatory for the rail in most forms. Flat damage increases just go hard.

Not that he doesn’t do bad things, he’s still a major Greek god but adultury isn’t one of his vices. In myth at least, no comment on how it works in game

Other comments might have said, or maybe you figure it out yourselves later on, but, Megaera in Hades is not the same person as Megara, the wife of Heracles. Basic myth information, no spoilers: this Meg is one of the three Erinyes, or the Furies, who basically are responsible for security in the lowest depths of Hades: Tartarus. Hades the place, not Hades the guy, obviously. The Furies are the daughters of Nyx, which makes them half-sisters to the Three Fates. The Cthonic gods of Greek myth are their own weird little underworld pantheon almost entirely separate and cut off from the Olympians and the heroes of the surface world. Historically, their distinction from one another in the myths may be because the pantheon was possibly that of an earlier religion that the Olympian tradition later absorbed. And Dionysus comes to the Olympians by way of the Orphic tradition, which is its own weird religion (and is also where Zagreus comes from). The Cthonians are a really fascinating bunch, and this game does a wonderful job of introducing you to many of them.

To help get you started, here are the things that do and do not carry over between runs (a run ends upon either death or defeating the final boss). DOES carry over: Darkness, Chthonic Keys, Gemstones, Titan Blood, Nectar, Diamonds Ambrosia Does NOT carry over: Boons (Godly power ups), Charon’s Obol (gold coins) Poms of Power (used to increase the power of Boons) Daedalus Hammers (modifies your current weapon with a temporary upgrade)

Hades 2 is in early access, so if you want to do one full playthrough with the entire story, yes you need to wait for release. As far as gameplay goes, it's essentially a full game, more than that even, there's more content than in Hades 1 honestly, but the game isn't finished and polished (although the polish quality is better than most AAA release these days xD) and the story is incomplete.
