I have built two saws after watching your "how to port" series videos. Both Holzfforma/Hutzl kit saws. A Husqvarna 372, and a Stihl 361. Both saws run awesome. They both pull 24 inch bar/chain with good torque and seem to have great chain speed. Thanks again for sharing the info!! Look forward to your vids.

I have a echo cs590 that I purchased from Mitch Weber. He also ports saws n such He did a 15minute fluff job on the inside and increased the venturi size in the carb. And I believe the coil mod I’m not even kidding one bit... that echo 590. Outcuts BOTH of my holzfforma g372xp. And riiiight there with my g660 (92cc) 20” bar you can bury it in the wood I put a 28” on it and it STILL pulls chain like a mofo!

Love those older saws and artifacts! I’m just like you with brands, I enjoy them all but do have my favs. In particular the 70’s era Huskys & Stihls. I must say tho I’m jealous of your Mac! Heck. I been running saws for about 20years now There’s some things I can work on and fix. But I have a big bore kit for my holzfforma g372xp I’ve never done one. So I’m going to pay a local to do it and I’ll watch. So next time I can do it myself
@82f100swb3 жыл бұрын
I usually blend the opening of the lower back to the bottom of the barrel, more in the interest of keeping up velocity and keeping a smooth flow. However some saws benefit from being ground completley into a bottom fed transfer. Thats what Jonsered did on the 910's and 930's, 920's were side fed on the same cases. The other two outperform it greatly... Have you looked at the difference in compression height on the 372 vs 272 pistons yet?
@ClintsHobbiesDIY3 жыл бұрын
This build is going to be very interesting.
@whatnowstinky3 жыл бұрын
I am really looking forward to watching this one come together. Is there any way the crank can be disassembled and the big end bearing uprated too? I imagine it is now the weakest link bearing wise. Will you roll the bottom edge of the flat sides of the piston to help the flow to the transfers? Would there be any potential gain in squaring the case out where your new open transfers are? Thanks.
@ronklimp71973 жыл бұрын
I cut a fair amount of firewood with a Husky 450 and more recently an eBay upgrade -- a lightly used Stihl 460. My son found and gave me an older McCulloch Power Mac 6. It starts and runs, but roughly. Cute little saw. Is it worth sending somewhere for a thorough service and/or restoration?
@TheKrayusKorianis3 жыл бұрын
If I'm tearing down a saw, gonna be changing the piston and cylinder anyways, I go for the impact that I have and it zips off easily. Even if the piston and cylinder is still good, I go for the impact because it's just honestly easier for me instead of putting rope down the cylinder. I just keep the plug in the cylinder and the pressure stops the piston movement.

Go on brother!!! :-) Greeting from nothern germany.

@@tinmanssaws I figured out my fault... MY timing wheel shows 4x90° and not 2x180°. So I measured 82° which is in real 102° ATDC. And my transfers open at 120°. That fits...! All that after base gasket delete. Now I have to find out what I can do to not fullfil the impullse hole without the gasket...

@ozdatman3 жыл бұрын
Cool. Thats what I was asking about when you were doing the Echo build, cutting away the skirt of the cylinder for increased transfer flow. Do you think you would loose any torque at all doing that with the slight increase in case volume? Cheers mate.

Hey TinBasher...is the new piston open above the pin in that little recessed area? And you are making a little transfer passage to get back that loss???
@mikahakkinen56513 жыл бұрын
you should try to put a cylinder from a small dirtbike engine on the saw. a think its possible,lots of work but what a grazy power saw then.

Tinman! Love the videos man! Been watching for a while now. Currently bidding on a 266 locally. I want to get it ported and have a solid saw. How can I get a hold of the iron horse or someone to port it for me? Thanks buddy much love from Ohio!❤️
@rncboy23 жыл бұрын
Not only does it cause problems with the piston but with the wrist pin needle bering flat spotting it if you arent careful
@rncboy23 жыл бұрын
For tin man. It is possible to make windows. It is best to smooth everything on the underside of the piston. The edges that Ironhorse talks about stress risers you can cut more into the bottom of the piston not to close to the wrist pin spots but a bit around them raising the bottoms of the pistons at the transfers allowing the fuel mix and air to move smoother reducing unnecessary turbulence. It is a gain not much of a gain. I have learned with harbor freight predator 212 engines and them having to basically be all stock internals with a small .750 O.D. tech ruel exhaust pipe with the mini b91 rlv muffler and certain size holes in both the baffles. That every little thing internally these steel and touched steel or aluminum needs to be mirror polish finish from the bottom end to the valve train after doing so you gain around 1/10 to 3/10ths a hp. And racing in a circle and having to have that roll speed on a stock engine not turning past 5200rpm that extra 1/10 to 3/10ths a hp does help more then you would think. So me being me I polish the wrist pin and rod bearing wrist pin bearing race for the oil to have a smoother surface for more even oiling as well. I personally haven't had a failure from not to say a cheap bearing is a cheap bearing.

I’m so lazy! I’m just drinking my giant coffee and thinking he’s going to grind a 365 or 372 cylinder... I’ve got a couple cheap 48mm 365 cylinder!s I wonder how the direct swap saw would actually perform.... loved the carb comparison story! I’ve found that just finding it’s balance and harmony ...intake and exhaust duration adjustments and sometimes those little things can totally boost performance... is a fingerport a fingerport if it actually resembles a clamshell or a toe??? LMFFAO! I get to thinking boy I wish I had a dyno... because my higher quality piston design might actually restrict performance??? About Brand Loyalty...ain’t nothing funnier for me than having a Stihl piston in my Husky or Vice Versa ... I love parts swapping across different brands... 😂😂😂
