Crazy theory: In the beginning there were only 2 races the Elves and their slaves the humans viewed as a lesser race because of their short lives and weaker magic. A subset of humans who were resistant to magic were kept in the mines to mine lyrium for the Elves and they evolved into the dwarves. Some of the elves tried experimenting with dragons and created the Qunari. The leader elves in Tevinter were the actual magisters and when Solus betrayed them their leadership fell into disarray causing the humans to revolt. The surviving elves lacking the numbers to defy the revolting humans fled to the forests and became the Dalish which for some reason or another some become alienage elves. After the humans took over the main cities in Tevinter that wanted to take southern Thedas under their control and the southern human refused to be under the thumb of someone again fought back led by Andraste.

As someone who has played all the DA games multiple times, I love what I'm seeing in the art, the combat revamp and companions. Can't wait to play all 3 mage specs. Also, nice coverage 👍

I love that you're pushing positivity here! This is going to be my first Dragon Age so I'm excited about it. Not sure if I'll be lost since I'm coming in so late but hopefully there's a way they'll catch me up to the story and world. I can't wait because the combat looks really fun!

I just watched a great, 2-hr, documentary on the history of Thedas before the games. I have played the games many times, but I still learned quite a few things I didn't know watching it. Highly recommended: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qKayqZ19prlqf6M

My advice is to look up some info about the lore/history of Thedas this should explain the world and you wont see much of the negativity. And if you have any questions I am more than will to answer/discuss.

Your beginning comment about this being a positive space immediately gained a like. I've been super excited for The Veilgaurd since the announcement. I can't decided yet but stuck between playing an Elf Rogue Antivan Crow or a Lord of fortune of any race 😄

It was good to hear you thoughts Thistle! I'm with you on all the nastiness that's surrounded this game, I just don't have the time for it. It'd be one thing if it was constructive but so often it's not. I exclusively create and play women characters, I'd never dream of complaining that the game allows people to play as a man. Especially when that option doesn't take anything away from me. I have the option to play as I like, there's no reason for me to get upset that others also have that choice. I don't understand why some people are so offended by choices that they don't have to interact with. I like the more stylized visuals too, I don't really like when games look super realistic. It's amazing what some games can achieve, some games look more like movies! But I prefer video games that look like video games. I hadn't thought about the repercussions for how the Andrastian faith could be impacted by the lore reveals! You make a good point, I hope the game goes into that. I'm so hyped for all the companions but I've got to admit. I'm a tad... feral for Lucanis. I saw some of his scenes and... I want. I want so much! With Solas, I have just one hope. I really hope there's a reunion scene for Lavellan and a romanced Solas and I want it to destroy me emotionally. Just rip out my heart and crush it. Bioware's recent history hasn't been great, they really need a win with Veilguard. Personally, I'm looking forward to it! But I can see why some people would be more sceptical or cautious. Really the only thing I've found disappointing so far is which of the past choices that carry over into Veilguard. But aside from that, I'm just looking forward to returning to Thedas!

As someone who has played all the games many times over, unfortunately, I’m not as excited as I’d like for veilguard. I really don’t like the art style, the limit of 3 abilities, the limit of two characters, no longer control companions, and limit to only 3 choices imported. That said, I’m still going to play the game and the combat itself is probably still good, if a bit more action. Hopefully the story is great, and if so the rest might can be fixed with mods. Lastly, I hate that the original inquisition composer was replaced. Nothing against hans zimmer but I would much prefer the original inquisition composer. Kinda a weird move to go hire a super expensive composer and not even ask original inquisition composer (trevor morris) to return.
@ThistleLPАй бұрын
I want to ask which composer you mean? I thought the original composer for DAO was Inon Zur, and for DAI it was Trevor Morris. I loved both of their music, but if we couldn't have them for DAV I am glad they hired Hans Zimmer for it considering he is probably the most influential composer of our time.
@onthaloose7521Ай бұрын
@@ThistleLP I misspoke, i meant hans zimmer for DATV for the expensive composer, i didnt mean to name inon zur there. And yes, The original trilogy was inon zur for the first two, and trevor morris for inquisition, of whom i prefer. Ive listened to the album for DATv, and much prefer inquisitions. And as I said, nothing against Hans zimmer, but hes expensive. Bioware just terminated 50 devs a year ago (including Mary Kirby, who is the "mother" of DA as far as im concerned). Its just doesnt look good.

I discovered DA with Inquisition, which I have played multiple times. I’m very much looking forward to diving back into Thedas.

I am so excited for this game. My only complaint with the game that i have seen so far is the mass effect style gameplay. I always wanted dragon age and mass effect to feel different from each other. Other than that I've loved everything they showed and my pre order is ready to go
@GreyWardenArlethaVakarianАй бұрын
The Qunari are humans/elves with horns now. What if you have valid criticism? In a fantasy MEDIEVAL game surgery scars just don't belong there, it makes sense in Mass Effect or Cyberpunk not in Dragon Age.
@ThistleLPАй бұрын
I have to disagree. considering transgender people are a part of DA cannon and the majority of people are anti magic, there is plenty of precedent for gender affirming care in DA.
@beaucole446Ай бұрын
DA even has a term for being transgender they call it "passing" and even explain it can be done with magic, but magic is viewed as both sacred and taboo. My fan theory on the qunari is they we created by the ancient elves by merging elves with dragons.
@designlover945Ай бұрын
The Qunari all looked the same in DA2 because Bioware only had 1 year to make the game. Thats why there were only like 2 dungeons, all houses had the same layout and all races had 1 bodytype.
@ThistleLPАй бұрын
@@designlover945 lol I know. Still it’s a gripe I have with the game, but I know why it is the way it is. I wish DA2 had more time to develop, but I still love the game
@designlover945Ай бұрын
@@ThistleLP Since DA2s companions are soo good, I´m really sad the the game is not really finished. I wish it would get a remaster or something like that 😥
@ThistleLPАй бұрын
@@designlover945 oh same! I’d love it if they did a legends edition for the DA series like they did with Mass Effect. I love Origins but it’s pretty clunky
@designlover945Ай бұрын
@@ThistleLP Yeah, especially the gameplay and the long sections where everyone uses mods to skip them XD
@beaucole446Ай бұрын
@@designlover945 Imagine if they rebooted origins and 2 with the gameplay and mechanics of DAV.
