The Searchers, The Searchers, The Searchers. And maybe The Searchers. “The Good, the Bad, the Weird” is coming to 4K on Arrow UK next month. It’s a fun Korean western.

I should check that out. I’ve never seen it honestly and Arrow rarely disappoints

The Searchers, what an epic film that influenced many with the anti-hero! When is Jeremiah Johnson, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Wanda Nevada, and The Electric Horseman coming to 4K?
@LetsTalkEntertainmentMedia2 күн бұрын
Jeremiah Johnson feels like something Kino would release but haven’t heard anything on that. Butch cassidy is one in actually surprised hasn’t come or been announced. I feel like that’s an extremely or at least was popular film.

Eureka put out the bluray for the masters of cinema series of the Great Silence. That’s the best version of the movie currently available.

So in all fairness the searchers is great despite John Wayne. I have to admit he's probably my least favorite actor of the era. I really did enjoy him in stagecoach though. He was less John Wayne like. John Wayne-lite have you. And if I recall correctly the searchers was one of the first blu-rays and still holds up to even many 4Ks

I get that. John Wayne isn’t for everybody. I’m also not the world’s biggest fan of him but he has been and started in some great westerns that I love. The Searchers is at the top of that list.

@@LetsTalkEntertainmentMedia loved stagecoach and Rio bravo. Really enjoyed Rio bravo and him paired with Dean Martin.

Speaking of fairness....... John Wayne's performance in "The Searchers" is considered pivotal for several reasons: Complex and Nuanced Character: Wayne's portrayal of Ethan Edwards is a departure from his typical stoic, heroic roles. Ethan is a deeply flawed, troubled character driven by a relentless obsession and fueled by racial prejudice. Wayne's nuanced performance brings depth and complexity to this character, showcasing a range of emotions from anger and despair to moments of vulnerability and redemption. Challenging Stereotypes: Ethan Edwards challenges the traditional image of the Western hero. He is not a noble figure fighting for justice, but a man consumed by a destructive quest. This portrayal subverts expectations and forces the audience to confront the darker aspects of the American frontier. Exploration of Prejudice and Obsession: "The Searchers" delves into themes of prejudice and obsession, which are amplified by Wayne's powerful performance. Ethan's hatred for Native Americans and his relentless pursuit of his niece drive the narrative and raise questions about the nature of revenge and the consequences of unchecked prejudice. Enduring Impact: Wayne's performance in "The Searchers" has had a lasting impact on cinema. It is considered one of his finest acting performances and has influenced countless filmmakers and actors. The film's exploration of complex themes and its ambiguous ending continue to resonate with audiences today. Overall, John Wayne's performance in "The Searchers" is considered pivotal for its complexity, its challenge to stereotypes, its exploration of important themes, and its enduring impact on cinema. It is a testament to Wayne's versatility as an actor and his ability to deliver a powerful and nuanced performance.

@JedEckert yeah I get that he has a character change, his come to Jesus moment, and this was a different time, but John Wayne is fairly 1 dimensional in most everything he's in. I don't find the performance compelling. I enjoyed Rio Bravo a bit more or something like stagecoach.

@hednik Rio Bravo is a great film! I see what you’re saying. It is pretty one dimensional and yeah he has to learn the error of his ways. John Wayne at the time was one of those guys where people went to see John Wayne.

@JedEckert Very well said! For the time it was considered very nuanced. There really wasn’t anti hero’s. Looking back on it, might not feel as special but there’s a reason why it’s so fondly remembered.
