Great video! I think rock paper scissors makes sense and encourages group play, which is CIG's role. Have to say it though, the 325 is NOT a heavy fighter lolol

I feel like fighters at best, can disable certain components on a capital ship. To take out, as in destroy a cap ship, you absolutely NEED a bomber/ large caliber or otherwise energy gun on par or better than the Ares Starfighters. Anything less and the damage you cause can be repaired in combat. That's my take. Heavy fighters can last longer and cause faster damage but...kill? No. You need something with a ballistic or energy gun the size of the Ares Ion/Inferno or better. Not s4/s5 weapons. Not for a capital ship. No light, medium or heavy fighter "depending on the weapon size" should be able to do that. Edit: To give you an understanding of what i mean, take a tank attack for example. Doesnt matter how many times you shoot with a handgun, it's not going to just break and fall apart....lets take that same example and use fighters against cap ships. It's a no-go.

I agree that they should. I think about battlefront 2 classic where you would use bombers to be the main source of damage on a capital ship, and while fighters aren't efficient, they can still help out in the fight and aren't obsolete. They also should have the purpose of defending the said main damage dealer. And the light fighters help catch any enemies that slip between the cracks and can better infiltrate enemy defenses

Javelin is your damage dealing tank, with a few Perseus escorting it there's a lot of damage on targets. Idris is your carrier/command and control vessel, its scanning will be very important as scanned/marked targets will be directed from here. Perseus is your escort for the Idris, its heavy guns are to deter other single capitals from engaging the Idris at range. Polaris is your ace in the game, keep it out of the start of the engagement and have it quantum to a fighter that is near the enemy capital ship, launch its hurricane/scorpious to tip the balance of the fighter group vs fighter group battle, while launching 4 torps at point blank range - its a paper tiger and isn't a tank like the idris or javelin. Eclipse, Ares Ion/Inferno are definitely anti capitals - though I can easily see multiple Eclipse steathing their way towards targets. Lightning, and Vanguards are defensive or Anti Large ships, but can take on capitals at a serious disadvantage. In defence they would stay near the idris/polaris etc. Interceptors are for engaging ships that are trying to flee the battle Medium fighters/Hammerheads are your first line of Defence too, but they can engage smaller ships / anti capital torps.

I got an idea on how to implement this, Armor on capital ships should be able to shrug off said s4 to s5 weapons (im not sure about s5, maybe it could have a slight penetration since its quite a large size), but you can still damage external components, however those can be repaired. You can take out a hammerheads engines or turrets, but never its quantum drive or power plant, so no blowing up the ship. A group of fighters could in theory, if they play perfectly, keep a capital ship permanently disabled or weakened, as long as they keep firing on it, but the moment they stop the ship can be repaired in seconds. While a bomber is needed to take it out for good

@aguspuig6615 the problem here is that, in most cases, those light, medium and even some heavy fighters won't be able to pierce the hull with those s4 and smaller weapons. They can take down shield generators and disable turrets, but both of those would exist externally anyway. Being able to make the ship immobile would take firepower capable of piercing the hull. Something of a larger caliber. And the hull wouldn't be pierced so easily on the smaller end of those large caliber guns either- like s5's. So, these fighters would just be there looking as the ship flew away or possibly repaired and attacked. Fighters will soon transition into a support role with positions of heavy combat in dogfights. For larger ships, they should be locked behind coming in and pestering.. At best, and I mean we're talking some bullseye Luke Skywalker taking out the Death Star luck here.....At best, they can swoop in and disable the above mentioned components. Turrets and shield generators. After that, they're sitting ducks waiting to die. Best to pop smoke and stay a safe distance away until they're support is needed again to take down said components yet again, due to missed shots with the bombers or large munition fire. Outside of these scenarios, I don't think a fighter, especially a light or medium fighter, has a place in downing a whole capital ship. And for the love of Thoth..... We do NOT need a scenario where big ship has HP bar and little ship can duck and move while "pew pew'ing" the capital ship into oblivion over the course of an hr or so... That's nonsense IMHO. And has no place in a game like this. I know alot of people don't want to hear that but... Oh well... If I wanted an arcade side scroller, I'd buy one.

​@@durtyred86ooh I like that idea. Only thing I'd disagree with is the engines. I think anything should be able to at least disable thrusters/engines with enough shots from repeaters/cannons. This could create situations where say an Idris crew would have to struggle to get thrusters/engines and turrets repaired before the enemy can get their bomber/heavy damage dealer to the scene. With that I think they should buff bomber pilot controlled weapons. Gladiator should get size 4 main guns and scrap the turret.

I like the idea of ships being limited based on their role/damage potential and gun size. Like gun size relative to ship size and armor.

Man, this is a great video, I like everything you said about realism vs fun, and expectation vs potential I will share my opinion on one thing though and say that I think that interceptors wouldn't be a great fit as anti-capital vessels, and instead they would fit better in their historical role of intercepting bombers, and maybe even intercepting large munitions like torpedoes and bombs given the setting

I really did believe this was the direction CIG was taking. I know they said that light fighters would not be able to do any damage to large/capital ships. To be honest, I like your idea better, and is more in line with actual Naval warfare.

Stealth Fighters and Bombers imho are not ships that are meant for mid battle reinforcement. They are precision first strike, recon, and/or command & control ships.

Hopefully the videos of the Gladius shooting off turrets off the Hammerhead is just because CIG uses the Gladius as the demo ship in all their videos and it's not the long term intended goal. I'd like the hammerhead to be almost impervious to S3 guns.
