Like the little mach. I have been doing this kinda work since 1967. You never Never start to fill in a pipe from the sides. You Always -----you hold the pipe down while filling from top. Always Try it!!!! Filling from sides leaves voids that can leak later. Rain down from top fills as you go... But you gotta hold it down. Your pipe picked up an inch or so. Nice job Chris. I bought a brand new VIO-55-6A ( new red color) last summer and had the extra counterweight added. It took a few weeks to come in so I used it quite a bit without the counterweight. After the weight was added it made a big difference when using a 4 foot bucket. It added 4 inches to the swing clearance.

Last Fall I manually dug a 13' hole to accept a 12' deep, 2' diameter culvert pipe as a huge external sump pump well casing. It took two months of nearly daily sweaty labor. Not only did I have to dig enough for the actual hole, I needed to terrace for manual dirt hauling out, access, and room to swing a mattock and spade shovel. The effort would have only taken a couple of days with a backhoe. But then, neighbors and friends wouldn't have been so impressed either... ;-) I'm envious of your toys!

@@gl309495 I'm not sure that what I was thinking of would be weaker but it would add a hundred pounds of weight to the roller and six inches to the effective length. @gl3094953 жыл бұрын
@@steveholton4130 I was thinking along the lines of a grocery cart caster only HEAVY duty. pretty much the same. BUT, the swiveling would make it swivel at both ends of a swipe and make a hole. I was just doing the math . . . . 4 of the 24" pipes just to "EQUAL" the flow ("cross sectional area"), of the 48"! 😯 Leaving the 24" in the ground almost seems like a useless gesture by comparison. 🙂 Two 48" ers, and some "rip-rap" (as suggested in a different comment), may have saved the homeowner another visit by Chris to tear the driveway up again?!?!

@@K7DFA if a beever disrupts the flow to the big culvert, the big culvert gets clogged by mud/debris, or it caves in, the 24 will be enough 99.9% of the time. In fact the 18 was probably enough to carry the flow of the stream 99.9% of the time. Its just the odd overwhelming rainfall incident that will overtop the road hence why he put in the 48.
