I have no clue how to even start learning digital art. I'm 50 years old and feel like I need to go digital with my art to try and keep up. I found this while looking for Procreate tutorials. This is hands down my favorite video for beginners. I greatly appreciate your wife doing this. I know nothing about it and to see her learn from the beginning was very helpful. I'd love to see more videos of you teaching her (and us). Thanks to both of you!

Her making those "mistakes" in the beginning with the circle is what's going to help people learn. I think watching a beginner doing this (while following you along) teaches better than, "draw a circle and hold it down". I mean, that works too but watching her trying multiple times helps.
@BeeJayDeL4 жыл бұрын
Agreed! She said after we filmed that she was getting so frustrated during that part and I should speed it up in editing....but I’m with you. I think seeing stuff like that will help people who are starting out! Thanks for watching!

This is the best tutorial I have seen yet. Using the simple shapes and learning how to use the tools over and over is the perfect amount of repetition to help me remember this. AND learning to put everything on a separate layer and group is another wonderful way to draw so you can make minute corrections any time without destroying the whole picture. I do quilting, screen printing, and block printing so this has given me a new way to create original art rather than having to buy expensive stencils. Thank you so much!

I just want to say thank you for having your wife on. I finally started to understand more about art today. My husband finally said my art was awesome with the shading and highlights. He is a awesome hobbyist photographer. So he is always telling me my art looks ok but my shading and highlights are not right. This morning he said my owl look awesome. He did say that he would like me to do it without having to copy someone else work. Which is what I am having problems with. I have been watching you for a little bit but today was the first time it really click. I started coloring digital in 2015 then last summer got into drawing. Never was into art now I want to learn so bad. I now understand more about layers also. I hope you bring your wife back on again. I don’t usually say anything after watching tutorials. So thank you again.

i am also a beginner and have been struggling a little bit with the process of creating in layers. This tutorial was fantastic and i really enjoyed following along. I have only got an iPad air (latest one) as i couldn’t justify the pro price to discover digital art so i had to contend with fewer layers available to me but now i know to process i can carry out shading and shadows before losing some layers to carry on creating. Thanks guys for a great vid, its really helped. i am genuinely pleased with my result.

I have been watching you tube channels for some time now and never have I learned so much about Procreate in one video. You made layers, clipping masks and alpha locks so much easier to understand. I always said I couldn't draw a stick figure with a ruler...but I think I might be able to do this. Your wife did an amazing job on her little owl! Please see if you can get her to do more videos with her. And the length of the video was good because you explained so much! I plan to watch it again and make my own owl right along with you. Thanks so much for the wonderful tutorial.

Beejay, I watched the whole thing. My Procreate skills are further than what you showed in this vid, but it’s so much fun to see a real beginner starting out, not only with Procreate, but also at drawing. You guys seem like a great couple. 21 years, though! Hopefully you can make teaching Mrs. Del into a series. I’d love to see her progress. With you as teacher, she’ll make big steps. And to Mrs. Del: don’t sweat it, we’ve all made the exact same mistakes. Once you’re comfortable with Procreate’s user interface, Procreate won’t feel like the goal, but it’ll be just the means to an end which is your artwork and expressing your creativity. Keep it up, guys!

Most helpful video tutorial yet!! Because it was slower, it made it easier to keep up. It also addressed a lot of the issues that we “noobs” experience because you took more time to explain what and why we were making selections, not just telling us to do it. I had issues with circles and shading and this video helped me to learn techniques on how to get better. I also now have a better understanding of Alpha Lock and the Transform options. You both did a great job. It was fun to watch your wife’s progress. There were points where she started to make her own creative choices and I love that you did not try to make hers look exactly like yours. Kudos to you both. I think the Mrs. has a new calling. Would love to see more videos like this!! You both have inspired me and now I’m off to purchase some of your brushes. Thank you. P.S. Let me say again, “MOST HELPFUL VIDEO TUTORIAL ON PROCREATE YET!!”

Love the way you picked a somple project but that required the use of layers, shadows, highlights, cliupping masks, etc....lots of questions: 1.
