This brings back memories. An older lady had a shop in town near my primary (elementary) school. One day I went in with my mom, saw her doing embroidery and said I wanted to learn. She said i could come learn from her each day after school until my mom finished work and stopped by to pick me up. So that's what i did in the evenings after after school- sat in her quiet shop and did stitches like these that she taught me. RIP Mrs. Rattigan!

Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks? I am 75-years-old and completed my first embroidery project (a dresser scarf with a day lily motif) at age 7. That means I've been embroidering for 68 years! When doing the fishbone stitch, I always started at the bottom of the leaf and worked my way up. I have to say that your method of starting at the top and working your way down looks as though it would give a more uniform appearance. I happen to be doing a project right now that requires that stitch and I'm going to switch to doing it your way, to see which I like best. I loved your video because you showed beginners a very nice variety of stitches and presented the lesson without a lot of unnecessary words to go along with the footage. I actually started out looking for a refresher course on the woven rose stitch because it's been years since I used it. I'm so glad I chose your tutorial to view! Thank you for an excellent lesson! I'm off to play with my needle and floss now!

My mother was an upholsterer she worked on everything from museum items to airplanes and boats. She passed away at the age of 45 in 2008 and I was young, still am but I forgot I knew how to do this until I saw this video. I bought myself a kit and that's what I'll be doing tomorrow to celebrate her on mothersday. Thank you🕯️❤️
@RedDesertRoz6 ай бұрын
Yeah my mum was a very talented dressmaker, and did exquisite hand embroidery. She taught me when I was young, and as I grew up, she taught me many skills in sewing and needlework, some of which, like you, I am now dusting off as they have not been used in some time. We lost her just before Mothers Day this year, and in her last days, I made clothes for a bear for her to keep her company when we could not be by her side, and my daughter made it with me, learning the basics of sewing and embroidery as we went. It was such a special gift, as it was not only a special friend for her in those last difficult days, it represented the love of all the family as the bear was taken to all the family to put some love and hugs into before being given to Mum, and it also represented the passing on of Mum's wonderful skills to the next generation. When we gave it to her, she looked up at my daughter and said, "I'm speechless". Love you so much, Mum, and miss you every day, but your legacy lives on.

I've been wanting to get back into embroidery, but have been intimidated by all the gorgeous stitches I've been seeing; they look so complicated! Thank you for demystifying this art for me, and for everyone else here. This video truly transcends language barriers in an easy-to-follow, yet beautiful, way. Some of the best artists in the fiber arts world are men. When I was a teenager/young adult I collected knitting and quilting magazines. The patterns that fascinated me the most were designed by men. As I began to look further into the history of certain fiber arts I found that many of them were done or invented by men or derived from male dominated jobs, such as fishing. So, don't let the idea that embroidery is a feminine art form stop you. If you enjoy it, do it.

I saw a video about doing embroidery on jackets, and as someone who loves her jackets and sweaters and coats, and also loves incorporating little bits of beauty or references to media that helped me grow into my everyday life, I knew I had to try and learn how to do it. So I looked, and this is easily the best, most concise tutorial for most anything that I’ve ever seen. I went to see if I had any old embroidery things from my mum or grandmother, and ended up finding an old bracelet of my grandmother’s. I didn’t get to know my grandmother well, she died when I was quite young, but the stories, the pictures, the journals, the little bits like that bracelet, and her wedding ring(which I wear around my neck), and even just the lasting effect she had on people in my life have made me love her so much. She wasn’t perfect, but she truly loved the people around her and deserved so much more from life. I’m proud to be her granddaughter every day. I cut ties with my father and his family, and when I did, I legally changed my name. I took her first name as my middle name, and her maiden name as my last name. I love you, Grammy. Thank you for everything you did for us. I hope I can keep your spirit alive.

These are amazing! I'm just getting into stitching again for the first time since 4th grade. I cannot wait to try these! Thank you for such clear instructions :)
It's my first time embroidering and I am so excited for the future. I started by doing a red flower and a light blue leaf on one of my white petticoats. I used woven rose and fish bone stitches for this. The result is not perfect but it is pretty anyway. I feel like dancing with only this petticoat on myself. I am so happy right now and thank you so much for this simple video ❤

This brings back memories of my childhood, where my late mother was so diligent in embroidering sheets and pillowcases for our family. I miss my mom so much😢

Wow! I always wanted to learn to embroider. I learned basic cross stitch but need to learn backstitch and french knots amd stuff. I'll be saving this for future references. Thank you! ❤️
