The leather embossed vellum coated fabric was adhered to the case originally with contact cement. for people that wish a more sympathetic restoration. The covering could have been carefully cleaned & reconditioned before removal, then using a razor blade carefully peeled off the wood box. the contact cement dries out over time making this easy. Heat can be used to help release the bond too.

@rockubtzer Жыл бұрын
@@giuseppepisano7398 I would suggest contacting many of KZbin shoe repair or shoe maker's. If the case is truly leather. They can give product types and names to remoisturize dry brittle leather. also... Auto upholstery shops have technics to camouflage holes in leather & fabrics they may have how to videos. I once saw a man on KZbin restore an old leather Doctors bag look up these videos as well. Large arts & crafts supply stores sell leather embossed paper and Book binders would have access to the thin leather they use to cover books(the leather I was referring to) hope this was helpful, wish you well in your endeavor.

Nice, even distribution of glue, 👎 no lumps or bumps, or even creases in the nice, new red material. It was put on evenly, professionally, and securely, thanks to two sets of ✋ hands. I 👍 like all the before and after photos of this restoration project. I didn't 👀 see any restoration on the wind-☝ up motor. It must 👎 not have needed it, or were gonna 👀 see it in part 2. Not really restoring, when you ripe off the original cover. WAY to many restoration youtubers need to rethink what it really means to RESTORE a Item. You do not make design changes, color changes. You are try to Restore the item back to what it Originally looked like when it came out of the Factory. You Do NOT remove casting marks, You DO NOT pick a color that wasnt what it looked like from factory. You do not polish a part(S) if it didnt look like it from factory. If you cant find a color or a fabric after removing it. then, you try to closely match it as perfectly as possible, even if it means going thur dozen of colors, or dozens of fabrics. Do your Research on it. Fix it up like it should be. Not how YOU WANT IT TO BE. Thats not restoring a item. thats just fixing it up to YOUR OWN TESTS and not true Restoration/

I'm pretty late to comment, and this stuff is just my opinion, but wouldn't it look amazing if the outer covering was instead replaced with a dark (sheepskin?) leather cover, with a dark red felt for the bottom interior? A little bit of water + wood stain on the handle for the wind-up mechanism without lacquer ( Using wax instead ) would look great too. For the carrying handle, a harder black leather would contrast well with the brown leather cover. And as a final touch, a little yellowing agent on some of the metal (such as the screws and maybe the horn) would look nice too. Keeping the badge, though, would be most important.

if the reproducer has crumbled then you sadly have no choice other then replacing it, the material it is made of is likely pot metal, and is non-repairable. but a properly restored machine will sound a heck of a lot better then that, trust me, I own several wind up phonographs and this one in the video sounds AWFUL compared to them.

Title should be restoring a box... not record player.
