I have never heard of a hero color when making a color chart before. This seems very useful

When I first saw this, I thought "Hmm, that's not much of a project." But after doing it, I found it a very satisfying, no-pressure thing to do. And especially after taking Taylor's cue and lettering the labels a little "fancy" it makes something I wouldn't mind hanging up in my art workspace!

I have to admit that when I saw this I almost didn’t bother with it. What a mistake that would have been!!!! What a great lesson....and now I think need to do exactly what you recommend which is play with a color chart before I start a project....will be much more purposeful on color...and your little spontaneous exercise at the end was great....look at those colors!!!!

PERFECT TIMING! I was just thinking it was time to make a color chart but was a little confused on how to do it. I have swatch charts & mixing charts for blends with specific colors but not this way and this way is the way I needed! Thank you for everything you do!!

I LOVE this! Color mixing seems so much less intimidating now! Suggestions for choosing colors to do a mix chart or does it not matter? I want to try with other colors too! I have swatches of al my colors but this is another level or amazingness! I also have to say I LOVE all the blooms Taylor got! I am all about the blooms, my favorite part of watercolor!

There is no right or wrong. You can play with all colors and see what you can come up with!

At 12:11, when you scooped magenta, then honey brown, doesn't that stain the honey brown with the magenta? That's something that has puzzled me the most about watercolor mixing. I would wash my brush after magenta and before touching honey brown, but that leads to two problems: 1. My cup of water getting dirty too quickly, 2. It slows me down significantly. I don't see anyone do that anyway, so I guess I must be doing something wrong. Can anyone chime in?

Yes of course! Or even pick three at random and make new charts for different collections. There are no right or wrong colors for this project. It is all about practicing and learning.

When was this video made? I was cringing and disappointed at how close they were sitting together with no mention of the pandemic and how that was safe.

This was filmed pretty recently. I know it's a really small filming space, but I'm sure they took all the recommended precautions for filming this tutorial and the other ones for this month! This will be on their youtube for years to come, so that might be why they didn't mention the pandemic (in 5, 10, 15 years it won't be relevant anymore)... just my thoughts. :)
