My Chemistry lab partner worked at a computer store and gave me a bootleg copy of this game. I was in LOVE. With the game of course, but the lab partner too. 😂 I got stuck on the three stooges brigands party and he came over after school to help me get through it. We ended up going out. It’s been 27 years & we love watching play throughs of the game that brought us together.

To max lock picking in the first few days, during the first night, spam lock pick on the healer's door. It's will never open, and you can't get caught. Once you get over 50 or so, the chance of dying from picking your nose is fairly low, so switch to that.

You know, when I used to play the original version as a kid, there was a point, if you won several times in a row and bet a lot of money, the chief thief would say, 'Oh, a wise guy, eh?' And then the next game you'd play, he would totally crush you hitting the target almost every single time.

Gotta say, your playthroughs are a great watch and I love the commentary. Great speaking voice! Keep up the great content!
@timvaine2604 жыл бұрын
Just stumbled across this. Amazing that you can beat the game in under 2 hours. I figured out you could be a fighter and get some stats on magic usage and stealth and basically be all 3 characters at the same time. You can still do all the thief work along with the majority of the spells. I suppose you didn't go after any panthers at night to get their claws, or kill Fred and get his beard, which you can sell to the healer. You can also build up your magic stats to win Erasmus' game which is REALLY hard. And you can build up your fighting stats to beat the sword trainer in the castle grounds. That'll get you 500 points, but is a lot longer way of playing the game. Great effort!
@LetsPlayWithBrigands4 жыл бұрын
Yeah I always did the Erasmus game as a kid. I'm planning on doing a Wizard playthrough of the series next year; I'll definitely be beating his game then. I did happen to do a Fighter/Paladin LP of the series a few months ago that's on the channel and I did defeat the sword trainer in that one.

My all time favorite game! I played it first when it was Hero's Quest before they renamed the franchise. Haven't finished the vga version myself, I always start it and then go back to the original. Anyway, couple of tricks I didn't notice you using and they may only work in the original. When you're choosing your points for stats you can "trick" the system by using the plus key and then using the left and right keys. It'll allow you to use single points instead of 5 at a time which means you can assign at least 1 point to all stats. It allows you to be a magic using thief that can fight! Also, outside of the healers house you can type "pick up rocks" and do this until you've picked up several hundred rocks or maybe even 1000 or so, can't remember and then the amount of weight you're carrying will go negative allowing you to walk/run at full speed all the time and not lose energy or stamina. If you already knew then hopefully another QFG fan learned something new, keep up the fun videos, I've been enjoying them!
@LetsPlayWithBrigands2 жыл бұрын
Wow I'll have to try that point trick if I remember next time I try the EGA, that's pretty good. Thanks for the kind words, as well, Clutch!
@Clutchdoctor932 жыл бұрын
@@LetsPlayWithBrigands sure thing! If I remember correctly you hit plus twice which will give you 6 points and then hit the left arrow which will take it down to 1. Then you can adjust from there with the arrow keys. It's been a while so I could be mixing up the steps but give it a try. Take care

it strayed visually and in design from the first 4. I don't think 5 was as bad as Ultima 9 or KQ 8 I've played all of those.. and KQ8 is probably the biggest divergence from the source.. a part of the reason is that 3d was new and everyone wanted to try it out, but it was still very clunky. hard to navigate, designers didnt really grasp playing in a 3d world yet..

@LetsPlayWithBrigands7 жыл бұрын
I guess I clicked through that but yeah they weren't anything special. I used to grind to get max stats as a kid, as well. 1 was much easier to max stats if I recall as opposed to some of the later games where you could make it a point to sneak literally everywhere and still not come close to max.
@Siege5132 жыл бұрын
In the EGA Version Chief straight hustles you. The more money you bet, the better he plays at dag nab it. If you bet 50 silver expect he will get straight bullseyes every throw. I played this game as a kid and did everything up to a point. I could not figure out how to get green fur from the meep. I mastered everything else, 100 points in all skills but could not progress the story. I felt like an idiot when I asked my friend about it some time later and he said, "Jut ask him for it." This and QFG2 were my favorites games as a child. I would pay serious money for someone to remake 3, 4, and 5 into EGA versions... I didn't like 3, 4 was better but I got tired of it, was not interested in 5.

Is that how it works? I did a walkthrough of Quest for Glory 1 with all character types in one video (kzbin.info/www/bejne/o2KUp3SAdtd8mLc) and noted how despite having 100 throwing and a good understanding of the dagger throwing mechanic, I still could never beat the chief. Why do you turn the detail slider down in these lets play videos? Seems to me like you'd always want those up, they make the game look better. "Ambient animations, such as running water, gratuitous passersby in the town, and smoke coming out of chimneys, can be controlled by a 'detail' slider in the options menu to make the experience even more immersive." (sierra's description of this)

I think because it slows down my character speed slightly or makes the game slightly more likely to crash in my past experience. That may not be true with the setup I have now to play them on but I never risk it anymore; I've drilled it into my own head.

After having played QFG2 and QFG3 this one is among the most disappointing games I've ever played: horrible combat system, stupid riddles (especially in the end, the brigand fortress), endless fantasy cliches and a pointlessly huge number of possible deaths or annoying features (the fairies etc.) The developers, as if vicious gamemasters, don’t miss any chance to punish and make fun of players. I preferred QFG2, at least its remake. Its hybrid nature is this game's asset and the reason it is still remembered and played.
@LetsPlayWithBrigands7 жыл бұрын
