The gun story was clearly out if hand. It reminded me of what my dad's uncle did one Halloween in the 80's. He dressed up as leather face or some scarey movie character and sat on his porch pretending to be a decoration. When older kids would come to the door for candy he would start up his chainsaw (he took off the chain of course) and would chase them down.

The story where the man chases the kids with a gun kind reminds me of what I've heard from my grandmother, minus the chasing and gun parts. I don't think it was pranking, but my nana loved giving candy out on Halloween but as she got older it got a little more difficult and since her partner had passed away she stopped handing out candy and the first Halloween when she didn't hand out candy, eggs were thrown at her door. My nana lived in kind of a wealthy area but there were a lot of kids in the neighborhood as there was an Elementary school down the road from where she lived. But every year when she didn't hand out candy, she had eggs thrown at her door just because of that and sadly because of my Nana's age she couldn't chase those greedy kids down. I just remember before she passed away when it was Halloween would come my Nana would always be afraid of kids throwing eggs at her door as I had said before it happened every time, and she also had a few break ins, but thankfully she wasn't home when that happened. I really miss her. And as for me, nothing creepy ever happens on halloween, which really bums me out.

Those kids from the story where the guy chases them with a gun did deserve to learn a lesson about respecting other people's property and not pulling pranks on people who have shown that they want to be left alone, but chasing them with a gun and faking an execution on one was 100% not the way to do it. Complete BS that guy got off with a lighter sentence.

Even setting aside that making them think they're going to die is way, way overboard, you should never, ever point a gun at anyone, let alone pull the trigger, unless you're in a situation where you actually need to shoot them. It doesn't matter if you think the gun is unloaded, you're risking their life on highly fallible human memory.
