Here’s my hope, he turns around the culture, he reinvigorates the young players, and becomes Tomlin 2.0 and he’s here for 20 years.

So, we hired a defensive coordinator with four years of experience off of a hot streak as a first-time head coach and no GM. If we are trusting the process how does this not result in another Saleh/Bowles bust in two years? I am struggling to buy in at the moment, but will see where this goes.

i have no complaints with anything you've said here PT. Like you my apprehension is more so with the process, not with Glenn. when you think about it, the Jets' expertise is at forcing the pairing of the HC & GM combo. I don't get how the GM gets no say as to the HC hire..... smh it's like having the Foreman, but yet there's no Engineer....... that rarely works out well for the project....

As a Dolphins fan im just glad you guys didnt hire Brian Flores. Aaron Glenn has been very up and down as a DC but that doesn't really mean much when it comes to being a HC. Saleh was a far better DC and he got fired. Flores was a very good HC but had issues working with coaches, he wanted Tua traded after his rookie year where he was 6-3 as a starter for Watson. It would have absolutely destroyed our team. Hes learned under Tomlin and O'Connell so i think it really would have improved his people skills ability to hire a offensive staff.

I like the hire, I just don't understand why we're hiring the coach before the GM. I guess they wanted to jump on Glenn before another team signs him. It feels like another arranged marriage situation, like when Bowles and Maccagnan were brought in and they both report equally to the owner. Hope I'm wrong and it works out but this organization never does things the right way. They're still a dumpster fire until proven otherwise

I think it’s a good hire. The jets have more work to do than the patriots as far as ascending. But if he can inject the right kind of nasty, and get competent qb play from a guy not turning 42 on one leg, I think they can be competitive. They have big decisions to make on a lot of guys. It’ll be fascinating to see who wants to be a jet and who doesn’t

The issues are threefold. First off, when the Jets finally hire a GM, how much distance will there be between the GM, the HC, and the ownership. As Tyson suggested in an earlier podcast, maybe there needs to be a director of operations to serve as a buffer. Secondly, whichever GM candidate is hired, there needs to be a meeting of the minds between him and Glenn immediately. They need to be aligned on team culture and philosophy especially when they report to the ownership. Lastly, even though Glenn has quite the resume, since he has never been a head coach but a DC, he needs to hire an OC that can open up this offense as well as an offensive line coach who can coach up the OL. While Glenn has been a DC, he needs to realize that he is the field general overseeing everything so he doesn't need to mind every detail. The hiring of an OC and a offensive line coach will be critical.

For everyone thinking it’s the same thing as hiring Saleh or Todd Bowles, relax it’s not at all the same thing. Saleh and Bowles actually ran top ranked defenses before we hired them…. Or even good defenses. Or even solid defenses. Or even a defense. Relax though Glenn’s ranked top 5 in the league in pass defense since he’s been a DC. So long as you start from the bottom 👌🏽’

Definitely with you Kev, here are my red flags about Glenn and this whole process, which I believe was a sham. Red Flags: 🚩Whether I wanted an offensive guy or not; the reality of a first-time HC being in this mess once again; not to mention a worse mess with 14 years of no playoffs; 9 years without a winning record and a meddling owner 🚩Defensive-minded head coach; Jets have hired Groh, Herm, Mangini, Rex, Bowles, and Saleh this century. They've had some success but outside of Pennington, we haven't been able to develop a QB. The Jets' offense is also stuck in the dark ages. Who's he hiring to eventually develop a QB? Is the QB going to go through multiple systems and coordinators? Do we want to repeat what we did to Sam? 🚩Also, Glenn said that he wants to know more about the offensive side of the ball. Didn't the media praise Saleh for gaining insight on that side of the ball? 🚩Praised as "leader of men"; not saying he isn't or is but the media said the same thing about Robert Saleh 🚩 Glenn's defense got taken to the cleaners by a rookie QB in Jayden Daniels. And it also took four years for the defense to at least be top-12. Not rooting against the guy at all because he wasn't my first option. I'll try to give him a long leash but I won't be hesitant to point out red flags as soon as they pop up. I'm more appalled by the process because the 33rd team is clearly guilty of a gross dereliction of duty. 🚩Had three months to come up with a list of candidates that ended up not featuring Jon Gruden, Liam Coen, Todd Monken, or Kliff Kingsbury. Hell, I even thought Mike McCarthy should've been interviewed, at minimum. 🚩However, they did include some great names (sarcasm) like Arthur Smith, Mike Locksley, Steve Spagnuolo, Matt Nagy, and Joe Whitt Jr. 🚩 Didn't even bother doing second-round GM or HC interviews with Glenn or Newmark and told everyone else to screw off as if both of them were getting the job. It happens to be that one guy only got the job and not the other, which is a PR nightmare and now the team did an about-face and will be doing second-round interviews. Why would any GM candidate or candidate whatsoever want the job once you told them off? 🚩 Rewriting the book of incompetence by hiring the HC before the GM. Not only could that potentially disengage candidates from the job totally but who the hell wants an arranged marriage again? Did we not learn from Idzik/Rex and Bowles/Maccagnan? Again, I'll give this new regime leniency but it'd be silly for me to ignore all these red flags, moreso about the process itself which was a farce.

I completely agree with many of your points, but I think what happened last week against the Commanders wasn't completely his fault. He had to work with second -and third-string defensive guys all year since the Lions caught the injury bug. During the last regular-season game, the media praised his defense for "cracking" Sam Darnold and the Vikings' offense. I agree that the GM and OC worry me (especially the OC, our owner sadly doesn't have the patience that other teams have to try it every year with a new offensive system). However, I wouldn't kick Aaron Glenn for the Lion's performance given the fact they had good defense (and probably would've had the DPOY) this year, but they all got hurt. I'm still optimistic about this hire since he could (hopefully) change the culture of the locker room, and maybe from his time in Detroit he has the guts to refuse the Johnson's every request. That's the hope, but I wouldn't be surprised if Aaron Glenn signs a napkin tomorrow saying he resigns from being the Head Coach 🤷‍♀

His defensive just got torched in a playoff game 45 pts. Afyer a bye week at home, against a rookie QB. Josh Allen destroyed his defensive 400 total yards 4 total TDs passing, and rushing. Dont tell me the lions had a lot of injuries. Kansas city never uses that excuse. They get their share of injuries and they win super bowls , play good on offense and defensive in the playoffs. Another first time head coach defensive coordinator, guys I just Don't have much faith in this organization at this point. If you keep shooting yourself in the foot eventually you'll have no toes left.

Lot of us thought we needed an experienced guy at HC. Ppl are bitching about glenn being a first time head coach but then were promoting ppl like liam coen ,who has 2 years of nfl experience. Brady would be another first time hc ppl were promoting as the one. This isnt about dc or oc, it is about being an hc. Josh Mcdaniel is a great OC, and for all you it was brady, he went 11 and 5 with cassell, and when brady was suspended he got a lot out of garapalo then s young brissett...yet he sucked . If his coachung wish list is true, the dc and oc have experience as coordinators and also as hc..and westoff is westoff, it shows unlike saleh he is looking for experienced hands, saleh hired his buds. I share PTs concern with woody, can glenn tell woody to f off along with brick the dick..I am hoping this being someone high profile because of his being ex jet will give him the cojones that saleh lacked. It looks like they also are likely hiring a first time gm which makes it even more concerning, it looks like woody is doing this so that ( he hopes) they will kiss his and brick's asses,as opposed to sn experienced person who would tell woody to stfu or fire him. That a number of people said no to them should tell glenn how the rest of the league views woody and give him confidence to say no. Saleh and douglas lived in fear of getting fired by woody so they bent over for him and the little shit. Meanwhile, saleh is fired, he had a dismal record, yet several teams are interviewing him for the HC position and douglas is likely to have another job, if not as gm. That should tell glenn and the gm that if they get fired, league ppl know woody well and will blame him and let them stand up to woody. I am tired of the 'another defensive coach hired', citing saleh, bowles, etc, that dc first time d coaches fail ..rather than the obvious fact, woody is a moron and hired ppl not fit to be hcs. Other than bowles, they all ended up 2 time losers, ahd word is TB is not thrilled w bowles. Any first time hc would raise red flags with this team. ' but an o coach could develop a qb'..well, first of all, not necessarily. The O coaches mentioned never developed a young qb ( moncken inherited lamar, mayfield was a 6 yr vet for coen, nagy never developed a young qb either as far as i know; i dont believe gruden did either for that matter. ). The point is any hc hire is a crapshoot, when it comes to the jets it is slightly loaded dice bc of woody. Glenn is the coach and groaning and moaning wont change that. This isnt like hiring gase, that we knew was crap, all we can do is hope glenn has what it takes. I see promising things about him and things i am concerned about.

If ownership is gonna meddle there is not one head coach that can stop it. Even Vrabel couldn't do it in Tennessee, and he was the top CEO guy. And right now rumor is McDaniels back at Pats is more of the Kraft's choice than his. So I don't think thats a good measuring point of a hire. Silver lining is Woody usually does not meddle in the first few years :D. Initial staff leaks look very promising with Glenn, lot of experienced coaches like Haley, Wills, Westhoff mentioned there.

I think a proven coach, who would have probably been paid a ton of money and demanded that control beforehand, would have given Woody no choice but to be more hands off. Glenn I'm not so sure.
