Letter to a New Freemason

This is the first in a planned series of talks in the form of a letter to a member containing Top Tips for their situation. This one is aimed at the new Freemason.
The purpose of this talk is to offer guidance to new members to help them get value and satisfaction from being a Freemason.
In it I offer seven “top tips” gained from my own experience and from the insight and wisdom of others. The tips are consistent with my hope that we will see fewer Lodges providing “conveyor belts” (which take members on a route determined for them with little consideration of their wants and needs), and more offering “member-centric” Freemasonry (which puts the member’s motives for joining and their wants, needs and circumstances at the top of their priorities).
People become Freemasons for many different reasons. Sadly, some don’t find what they are seeking and leave within a short period of time. Overcoming this is a shared responsibility between the members and the Lodge. This talk helps the new member do what they can, while the fourth in the series helps Lodges satisfy a new member’s expectations.
