I'm completely on board with the banning of assault weapons and I'm a law abiding gun owner (who doesn't own an assault weapon) but to be fair, there was a mass shooting where a person present was carrying a weapon and shot and killed a mass killer. It was at a church in Texas about five years ago I believe (without looking it up). There were a number of congregants killed before he killed the shooter. So this kind of thing HAS happened but it is rare and not something I, or any thinking person, would like to rely on by way of personal protection in public places from the crazy people in our midst. Love you Al! You have always been a glimmer of light and humor at times, and in places, that most need it.

Well I'm sure I won't get a lot of agreement for this, but when I saw the title I was SO stoked because I imagined the incredibly smart and funny discussions THESE TWO could have about contemporary politics. But I'm at the 50-minute mark and so far it's been mostly shop talk and name-dropping, same thing that legendary entertainers always seem to do whenever they talk. This one has had it's moments (I did love the Alka-Seltzer story, for instance), but something about listening to comedians talk about comedy makes me want to cut my wrists, LOL!!!

🙂 Interesting and fun to listen to you guys reminisce. Along about '75 I had traveled out to Tennessee from California to learn Bluegrass music and explore the country. Every Sat. night a bunch of friends used to get together, have a couple of beers, etc. and watch SNL. I'm talking way back. We'd sit there every weekend and laugh like hell. Great times. I wound up meeting a jazz guitarist in Knoxville and fell in love with jazz. Oh dear. Where does one learn jazz? California, of course. So I came home. Complete 180. Politics wasn't until much, much later. Another story. I wound up diverging from the music business, but can relate to what you were talking about.

It's cool that Letterman gave props to Howard Stern for remaining on air during and after 9/11; he could have simply taken his compliment for going back on the air the following week and left it at that.
