Perfection...miss Dave. Only in hindsight is it clear that he was inventing late night TV. When I was in high school...I just knew it was great.
@adumbberg
@adumbberg 2 жыл бұрын
This kind of stuff was done previously by the guy who actually invented the form a few decades earlier: Steve Allen, host of the Tonight Show going back to the 50's. Check him out! Amazingly talented and funny. Man on the street gags, props, etc. Allen did it all. Letterman once wore a suit made of velcro and stuck himself to a wall. Steve Allen wore a suit made of teabags and was dipped in a tank of water. I think they're both great. But a lot of things that Letterman gets credited for inventing were invented many years before he started working on TV.

Corden's gone, the rest are following. I think if there wasn't a KZbin to put their clips on, they'd already be gone. I watch some monologues and bits from late night occasionally, but I can't remember the last time I watched a late night show on TV. Maybe since Letterman.

@@nomadcowatbk This was about the point it became affordable. Parents bought a bag phone around 93-94, it was about $35/month for 0 minutes ($77 today) + 0.25 a minute (55 cents today). Keep in mind, if you were to stop and use a payphone, you'd be spending a quarter anyway.
