"This is a Dave Letterman tour de force performance...I didn't think he could top his raw emotions exhibited in 'Cabin Boy', but I smell Oscar for this year's most heart-wrenching films" -- Gene Siskel, Chicago Tribune

“Gene, you must be drinking again. Cabin Boy doesn’t come out for another 8 years…” - - Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times

@@cactaceous I don't know why this person posted those quotes saying they were from Siskel, that's clearly lifted from Richard Roeper's re-review for the site around 2002! What really breaks my heart, though, is how David Letterman's performance was snubbed at that awards season. Weasels! My man Dave was robbed here, he deserved at least a Golden Globe.

@@fatalmodelmadhatter Right. Right. I do have a faint recollection of seeing Roeper covering the film on Ebert & Roeper with A.O. Scott in his first guest appearance after Ebert started his thyroid cancer treatment. Dave might have been robbed but Hal Gurnee won the American Broadcasting Director Award for Best Directed Documentary - Non Feature for “Feelin’ In Love. Much deserved.

@@cactaceous Gene drinking again? Roger Ebert was the obese alcoholic, not Gene Siskel.

Now, that is a true classic. I wonder why Dave and his team stopped doing Film Festivals after this one.

This was one of the funniest things ever done on TV…. It could have been a feature length movie… I liked that Hal never changed.
