That entire generation has a big place in my heart for them. It is one thing to go home with horrible wounds in their bodies, but to have ones soul ripped out and torn and then living the rest of their lives having horrible nightmares almost every night, is very sobering indeed. I befriended many World War II Veterans. I never asked any of them questions about that tragic war. I wanted them to know how much I cared for each and every one of them. I didn't want any of them to relive the horror in their minds. As they near their 100th birthday's their number is fewer each day. I will always carry them in my heart. I pray Our Heavenly Father grants each of them eternal rest.

The current - odd - practice of assigning the description, “Hero” to anyone who simply served in the military should review this poignant recitation written by a real - honest to god HERO. You may notice that June Wandrey selflessly wrote of the actions & deeds of those surrounding her, not of the well documented, truly awesome service to the USA that she herself voluntarily provided. Yep! That Lady certainly deserves the heartfelt thanks of a grateful nation.

It is often difficult to set aside the Hollywood war films and face the realities of what wars do to the everyday people. Here in the UK, families were heartbroken when the young American soldiers died thousands of miles from home, but it is rarely even mentioned if what we see on film. But people don't forget and it is probably why to this day American people always feel welcomed when they visit London. Perhaps the thing that surprises people the most is that Princess Elizabeth (now our Queen) drove a London ambulance during WW2 and was with many everyday people during their final hours. Even the fact that prince Philip sailed on warships protecting the Atlantic convoys is rarely mentioned and often unknown to people outside the UK. I hate films that glorify war in any way.

Just finished “Bedpan Commando”. What a read! I never realized what nurses went through during the war! She was one tough cookie and handled herself with dignity and class despite being disrespected, sexually harassed and taken for granted. She had a tough job to do and did it without wanting any fanfare. I salute all the brave nurses who took care of the wounded and sick soldiers plus civilians when needed. And to think about being a woman so far from home in war zones that were sometimes shelled and shot at by German planes. May such brave souls never be needed in that kind of setting again. War is the world going mad and needs to end. Hasn’t the human race had enough of it! Praying for peace in Ukraine and the Middle East! 🙏
