The day has come and we are finally letting our chickens out of their new chicken coop for the first time! We hatched the chicken eggs, raised them from chicks, and then housed them in the new chicken coop that my husband built for me. Now they are grown and it's time to let them out and enjoy all the free range grass and bugs. We should be getting some really nice eggs soon!

You are not crazy. I am proud of you for what you are doing. Reminds me of my grandmothers mixed flock of chickens. Keep up the great work!

Henry is sure a colorful and handsome rooter, what breed is he? I love that your older hens are getting along so well with the young ones. That's a great way to prep for next year's garden, let the chickens do the work! Adding a chicken tunnel around your garden next year will keep lots of weeds and bugs out. ~Margie

Henry is a Salmon Faverolle. They're known to be calm, gentle and docile. I love your idea Margie about the chicken tunnel. I have another project for Mike now!

Do you have a chicken tunnel around your garden? It would be amazing to see a picture of it Margie!

@@camicri4263 I don't have chickens, but my dear friends built one. As I recall, he used plumbing pipe and hardware for the frame. I think the run was about 2 ft tall x 3 ft wide, with hardware cloth (or the smaller poultry mesh) on the top and sides. He left the bottom open, so the chickens could scratch and peck in the dirt. It ran around all four sides of their garden and back to the brooder house. He passed away and she moved off the farm. I'm sorry, but I don't have a picture. ~Margie

What happened to Johnny? It was always comical how he would crow as Mike spoke on videos! Though I like friendly roosters best.

Aaaawww, they sure look happy in their new environment. Do you house the older ones in a separate chicken coop? Thanks for sharing. I do enjoy watching them mingle together.

Yes, I did while the babies were growing. I kept them confined with a heat lamp so the bigger ones wouldn't pick on them. If you choose to do that you half to wait for the young ones to be almost the same height as the older ones to insure that the older one won't pick on them or hurt them. They are loving the fresh grass and bugs! Thanks for watching Sandra.
