Thanks a lot for this, I’ve always let my chickens hatch out under a mama so this is my first year incubating and I wasn’t sure what little habits I needed to do PRIOR to incubation when I was getting a good clutch. I am not letting natural hatching this year because the mamas do take good care of the chicks sure BUT we dont get to handle said chicks much sense mama hen is always protective over them. Basically this is just so they can be friendly like our older hens.

Something interesting that happened with my chickens which are mixed breeds - they were only producing 1 - 2 eggs per day out of 16 chickens, even the young ones. This was happening for about 4 months. Then my partner bought one Isa brown and one australorp. They settled in nicely, no pecking! Well, after 2 days, I am getting 6 - 7 eggs a day! This has continued for a few weeks now. I can only put it down to competition. What would you say has happened?

My sister found a wild baby duck alone, this size. She brought it for my other sister to care for, but she's too busy.. I'm left trying to find out what to feed it, how much, how often, dry or soaked or cooked.. how much water to drink how often, none of these videos are giving details. I have a tiny 12 egg incubator going. I just put it in 4 days ago with one helping of water. I don't know if I should go past the amount. The bottle they gave me and I don't have a humidifier since in the brochure. It said it came with one I'm not experienced. It did not come with one and in fact, came with a spray bottle, not even a part of the kit. From Amazon, it has an automatic egg Turner and so I'm lucky of that, but it's rolling. My eggs is that dangerous. It's not tossing side to side like yours is. God bless you happy hatching.

Thanks for describing the entire process. This will be our first time incubating eggs and we had no clue about how long you could store the eggs before incubation, maintaining humidity levels or that you need to rotate the eggs during storage.

lol, It doesn't matter if the eggs are dirty. Some really funny advice all through out the video. What is your hatch percentage? I get 90% or better and don't follow any of this advice. Just watched to see if there was anything I was missing.

Those eggs were pretty dirty. That might have had something to do with it. YES humidity is extremely important on all fowl eggs. I have trouble with humidity all the time. I use a smaller room with a heater to help raise the humidity. If I turn a fan on the humidity drastically drops. They look healthy don't beat yourself up, it's trial and error. We live and learn

After storing them for let's say 5-7 days - should I candle them first to make sure they are fertile before putting them in the incubator? If any are not fertile, I can eat them? Can I incubate chicken eggs and duck eggs together in 1 incubator? I also have geese but I'm letting the mama geese do the work - and they have been successful 100% of the time so far :-)

My 88 year old neighbor lady wants to use my wheelbarrel to plant flowers. She wants to put in her garden - I think similar to what you have done. I painted it with Rusty Metal Primer, which is brown & she seems to like. I am letting it dry overnight. I am not 100 percent sure what her plans are, but thought it should probably need drain holes too? It was water tight before my recent paint job & do not like the idea of drilling holes in it. It has been in the family since around 1950, just like the lawn chairs & glider. The wheel barrel is similar to yours with a solid front wheel etc. I painted everything including the wheel & it does not look bad. I have an old motorcycle; an old boat etc. Drilling holes in something that is still functional is against my nature. The neighbor lady just lost her husband & has health problems. They have been generous & nice neighbors, so I want to accommodate her. Maybe she can tip the wheelbarrel display for drainage?
