Oh, my stars! I’ve only just started this video and already the anxiety is rising! This will probably be your most controversial “this or that” yet! Bohemian Gothic and Darkness of Light are 2 of my true loves! I don’t know if I can watch any more (I’ll try to muddle through 😉). If you do end up re-homing Bohemian Gothic, I think Baba Studios is planning to do a reprint in the future in the next couple of years, so you might be able to get it again in the future if that’s the case. Ok…let’s see how much more trauma I can take..

I would genuinely be interested in a bro-themed self-care or self-love deck with cards like "big d*ck energy" and a guidebook explaining size doesn't matter as much as how one uses it and explaining body acceptance through that, or "bodyspray" and how washing yourself in axe bodyspray doesn't actually replace a bath and how one needs to address their issues instead of trying to hide them. There definitely is a potential there.

OMG I agree how can you ever consider letting go of the Tarot of Vampyres! So glad we agree-Whew LOL. Such a deep deck-my fav for shadow work, I agree-Thoth- Golden Dawn, and tree of life deep dives! I work with it all year and love it... I have been pairing this deck with the Tabula Mundi Tarot and my readings have been beyond amazing!

Totally agree on the Patrick Valenza decks….I love the Deviant Moon for the exact same reasons, I love how it immediately gets at the shadowy side of every card and I’ve grown a bond with it despite the artwork not being my style…but I’ve never been inclined to get any of his other decks despite respecting him greatly as an artist.

I don’t know a lot of the OOP decks presented here… but I can totally relate to what you say about your “fantasy self” wanting certain decks that don’t really jive with your aesthetic. It’d be cool to see a video on your “fantasy self” and what your fantasy self inspired you to buy for your collection. For me, that is the Majestic Earth. I really want the Tarot of Delphi but when I think about wanting that deck and having the Majestic Earth I remind myself “BUT I’m not even into fine art” and never have been. I did think the Revival Art Tarot would have been your pick because it seems more “playful” which I see you gravitate towards in your other decks. I really like Robert M. Places work and art so please sell it ;) I think you made a really good point about the Sacred Destiny keywords not matching up with the art… I’ve subconsciously been picking up on that. You definitely inspired me to consider getting some decks that I would have never considered like The White Sage Tarot.

The della Luna pip edition (the 4th one in the deviant moon round) I was TOTALLY vibing with until that 3 of cups like… why🤣 totally turned me off the whole deck because of that one card I just can’t stand it especially since the three of cups is such a fun and wholesome friendship card that I felt like deserved better than a butt spitting fire lol. And I am actually a really big fan of his work and use the deviant moon tarot as my go to deck everytime for a reading.

Regarding the Darkness of Light Tarot -- the art is gorgeous and I very much appreciate the fact that even though the tone/colors are muted and it "seems" dark at first glance, there is a lot of hope and brightness in the deck as well. Every time I look at the deck through KZbin walkthroughs, I'm always reminded of that feeling you get when you have had a horrible, stormy night of utter despair, but then you look out the window and see the orange-gold rays of sunlight breaking through the darkness and realize that it's dawn. Then you take a deep, shaky breath and feel just a little bit stronger, a little bit braver. Because even when whatever problems/issues you have are still there, at least now things don't feel completely hopeless...

I feel the same about Joanna Nelson decks as you do about Patrick Valenzas decks. Just because I love some, doesn't mean I'll love them all. I have both Monstarot & Whispering Spirits because there were just so many cards that I loved in both, I couldn't decide between the two. I also had bought her Cat Land Oracle prior to those two decks. However I just couldn't pull the trigger on Cosmobeings.....it is SUPER CUTE, and I was on the fence the whole funding campaign but just couldn't do it. The little characters just were to same-ey to the ones in the other 2 decks plus the limited color pallet just didn't work for me for some reason. I do like the space theme of it though. Was a hard one to pass on.

I love the self-care wisdom cards! To be honest, I only use it in the morning to pull a daily card. It has been surprisingly wonderful in that like pulling the Needs card on a day I knew was going to be busy. It feels important to me in a small way. I don't know how to express it better. I was so paniced when I saw the poll for White Sage. I love it so much and was all "how can anyone get rid of this fabulous deck?!" It reads so well for me even tho it's a pip deck. I haven't studied numerology or even chackras but I always get something meaningful out of it. And that page of cups... love it.

Moonchild Tarot was my favorite for forever- and then it became kind of a moody deck lol, I love the Starchild too especially it would be great for pathworking and picturing yourself in the landscapes.

Thank you so much Lisa, I love these videos! I’m really thankful to live in a time where we have so much choice when it comes to tarot and oracle decks. The borderless Deviant Moon was my second ever tarot deck and I’ve never been able to use it. I think it’s the art style. However I love the Trionfi della Luna with the illustrated pips; it’s cheeky, disturbing, confronting and comforting all at the same time and I love the vintage coloration. What does this say about me that I love this deck? Lol, guess it means I’m disturbed! Thank you again for bringing us these videos!

I was one of the ones that voted Trionfi Della Luna Pips. It’s the only deck by him that I own, and I like the style more with the old look. Illustrated, I feel, would probably annoy me. Though I don’t really use it much. How you described the Deviant Moon, with seeing the shadow first, I actually have a deck like that now for me, The Corrupted Tarot, which is meant to be like that. It’s pretty cool to have a deck where the shadow is right there. It can be nice. I mean, I love The Lovers in The Lubanko Tarot, which is such a powerful and graphic image and one that can come up in readings. I almost never pull The Lovers in readings when decks just have a couple unless I’m interviewing the deck, same with the Two of Cups. The decks know I’m too aro for it 😂 The Moonchild, I think is so pretty, but even seeing the cards in the video again, I’m not wanting to pick up my copy since the book still mentions ableist stuff in it. I actually got a bit exacted when I heard about that ocean themed oracle deck, but I just can’t support anything she creates. Then for Legend: the Arthurian Tarot, that one was a hard vote because if I use that deck I’m going to pair it with that oracle. I haven’t used it too much but when I looked at that one and that one other Arthurian tarot deck, I preferred the art of Legend. Though I’m not sure how much use it will end up getting once I finish the artwork for my deck 😂 Maybe it still will since it’s more classic Arthurian while mine is BBC Merlin.

Ok I’m just now watching so I might edit my comment, but have to comment on the first selection. You know TOV is one of my favorite decks of all time. But I just got the Bohemian Gothic in a trade and Place’s vampire tarot is one of my unicorn decks!! They’re all fantastic choices no matter your decision. Tarot of Vampyres is such a DEEP deck and I am so happy you’re enjoying it! It’s definitely a deck that changed a lot of views on tarot. To me it feels like a Golden Dawn deck not necessarily a Thoth deck since the imagery is very RWS or goes it’s own way. For sure a modern classic. I also have this weird feeling that it’s going OOP. And idk why!! But I for sure understand your feeling towards that.

I have had the same feeling about it going OOP which is why I bought it a month or so ago. I was wanting to get a vampire deck but was personally never drawn to any of them that have been released (other than Tarot of Vampyres). I considered Tarot V but then backed out. I think I was waiting for the perfect vampire tarot deck since I was very much into those movies “back in the day”. Tarot of Vampyres was definitely the best decision for me because the art style feels familiar to the vampires during my teenage years. I’m not sure why I waited so long. Regardless, I’m so glad I have it, especially if it is possibly going OOP. The cards and the guidebook are amazing!

Giiirrrrlllll. I hate that new hat house card stock. My New guardian Angel wisdom deck came all warped like that and it bugs the shit out of me. I sent it back once. Got the same and just gave up. I would throw it in the trash if I didn’t love the deck so much. Can't wait until the "I'm Here" deck comes! First time I have ever backed a deck but I just knew I'd love it. I love Cheryl Richardson's books - but when the deck came in the mail it smelled horrible. No idea what warehouse that was stored in- but I had to return it. It's such a lovely deck but I just don't want to get it again because of that experience (which clearly was a fluke). That's so funny about the Trionfi Della Luna Illustrated, I actually found it overall less creepy than Deviant Moon. I really like both a lot but the Trionfi felt more playful to me and became an instant favourite. Its really neat how different people can view the same art.

The last one, oh my! I usually pair Ember and Aura with the White Sage Tarot. I was lusting after E&A for such a long time, but because I was trying to be so mindful of how I spend when it comes to tarot, I waited a couple of years lol, and I am so so so glad I got it. I'm not at a point where I would consider rehoming either decks, however I feel like once I'm done with E&A I might still keep White Sage. It's such a wonderful reader, I love how it incorporates chakras in the cards, and it works so well for everyone. E&A it's more of a personal reader. Lovely video, some of these choices were hard :)

True story: I was a little miffed that my minor decan card was the Seven of Swords. Until I read the description of the card in Phantasmagoria. Totally agree with your thoughts on Pagan Otherworlds and the Patrick Valenza decks! Especially the most recent one. I can see the appeal and why it's already so loved, but it definitely felt "too much", especially that 3 of Cups 😅. And very glad you kept the Wisdom of the Oracle (and that you used my comment 🤍)! I had a similar thing happen while decluttering re: making a last minute cull based on cardstock. For me it was a secondhand copy of the Numinous Tarot that had taken a severe beaten from its previous owner. Going in I was swore I was going to keep it but then found out but the damage was too much. I was able to get a new copy of the same edition because the creator found some extras! Anyway, another lovely video ✨

Oh, and one last comment about the Trionfi della Luna Illustrated Pips - I love Patrick Valenza's artwork, and the Deviant Moon is such an interesting experience as a reader, however I don't feel like I need to own all of his decks. That being said, the Trionfi della Luna was on my list - sort of. But I held off from ordering it, and I'm so glad I did. I get a very similar vibe to the Tarot de Marseille Par Pole Ka, which is a very quirky, weird, grotesque deck, but in the most exceptional way. Obviously, TdM par Pole Ka being a Marseille deck, the pips aren't illustrated, but it's so much fun to use and it's enjoyable, especially if you're doing a fun reading, rather than a shadow-y one. Although the 3 of Cups depicted on the box of the Trionfi della Luna would have been perfect as a card for TdM par Pole Ka, I feel like in the context of the illustrated pips it's just unnecessarily jarring and loud.

Congrats... 17 decks in the purgatory box! That's more than I possess after 33 years of tarot reading! You showed us a lot of popular decks today, but you have so many decks, and so many beautiful ones, and it is totally ok to just keep those you really want to keep. The cardstock of the new enchanted map - I had a similar experience with the cardstock of the wildwood tarot. I "love and need" the wildwood so much, that I'd rather have a bad cardstock than no wildwood, but I totally get why you've gone for the wisdom of the oracle instead.

So... funny story... I had the exact same experience with Wildwood Tarot back in the day... but i rebought it VERY recently and the new cardstock is thicker and glossier and while it still has a bit of 'shape' or bow to it, it feels much nicer... might be worth seeing if you can get your hands on a current sample deck somewhere? ;)

@@Lisa_Papez I actually got my English Wildwood version just in February and it is the British newly published one (I'm in Europe). The thickness of the cards is actually fine, they just have this strange diagonal bow to it. If I run across a version of the US publisher (I think that's the one you got?) I'll have a look. For now the deck lives on my shelf under a stack of books, when I'm not using it, but they are surprisingly stubborn. Still love it.

@@khan7459 Ahh yes my first copy I owned a while back had that same diagonal bow and it drove me nuts! The version I have now is by Sterling Ethos. The cards are thicker and have a bit of 'normal' bow only.

I love The Tarot of Vampyres! I brought it into my collection last Samhain to scratch my itch for Place's deck. I knew it was special immediately. Now, I wonder how I thought that it'd ever be just a second choice deck. I can't imagine not having it in my collection. Sad to see Sacred Destiny didn't make the cut. I love that deck, which is a surprise. Not my aesthetic really, though a beauty. Some keywords were a loss for me at first, but I spent some time with the guidebook and drawing my own associations. I think the issue is that this deck could actually benefit from the the "name" on the card. For example, its helpful to know that the wisdom card is actually depths of the sea and that purification is summer rain and not sunflower. I'm thinking that I might write the names on the card below the keyword. I'd recommend trying that since its such an affordable deck. I feel like it will really make the readings more expansive. As you can see... I really want you to love it, lol. Blessings 💫💜💫

I am so pleased to hear your comments about Trionfi della Luna illustrated. I too got swept away in the excitement of this and looking back I am not sure I even remember why. I waited for delivery for what seemed like forever (In reality it wasn't that long) but when they arrived my immediate thought was that I'd received a bootleg as the quality of the box and card stock was such a disappointment. I've looked through the cards, maybe once and I'm totally turned off. I am really not sure why I've had such a strong reaction. It is so nice to hear someone else say anything other than total praise as I was beginning to think it was just me. Really let down

I was worried when you paired DoL with Fountain! I'm glad you're going to give it a go. I think it's so masterfully executed artistically, managing to feel classic and modern at the same time. It's my most even split between male and female representation as well. Biggest disappointment is only getting keywords on the minors in the guidebook, when I would really like more context on some of them! (p.s. It worked really well for me last October, but I think it would also be a great November deck, when the height of autumn is over but there is still some color hanging on.) That Tarot of Vampyres book, holy cow! "Interview with a Vampire" was my favorite movie when I was 11 (weird, I know) and then vampire romances were my favorite books when I was a teen (Night World Series), but then "Twilight" kind of ruined it for me, haha. But maybe I should re-visit my vampire obsession with that deck. As far as classic art decks, I'm surprised by how well the very inexpensive "Influence of Angels" works for me --and it has an amazing little guidebook! I loved the idea of stepping into sacred landscapes with Sacred Destiny, but I had to remove some of the ultra-fake looking cards, including the uncanny valley CG unicorn ("Gateway") and mermaid ("Wisdom"). I also find the artwork feels inconsistent, some more like photo collage, some like paintings, and some like CG generation or something. I'd like to replace it, but haven't found an oracle in that art style I like better. The people in Ember and Aura have always been a big turn off for me too, even though the art style is lovely! Sadly I relate to this!☹️ I also have many deviant moon decks, I don’t like the paradoxical original, I stupidly bought both illustrated pip triomph decks & I haven’t even open the paradoxical & Canada post charged me 28$ in duties and ‘handling fees 🤬 (this has never happened with a deviant moon deck before and they charge way too much in shipping anyway). I am also trying to get along with my Pagan Otherworlds - sigh I am hanging on to both editions of art revival tarot which I bought to use my favourite images from as one deck even though I have yet to use it. They were very expensive for me so I’m not ready to let go of the dream just yet. Finally, tHe enchanted map has truly terrible card stock, it’s not just you. Dunno about Lisa but I never mark my books ever, no matter what they are (fiction or not, they're all pristine). I make notes in a separate notebook :D Guess it was an ingrained habit from back during school days where we had to rent textbooks and we would forfeit that big amount plus pay fees if our textbooks had any writing in them.

Well damn. Now I'll have to go put in a second order with my favorite shop because you made me regret taking the vampyre tarot out of my basket. Honestly, I find the art a bit.... cliché and cheesy, I know totally unpopular opinion, I'm so weird when it comes to art on divination cards, *I* don't even know why half of the time. It's just the way it is. Kinda like red brick buildings give me the heeby jeebies and awful deja vu feeling even though I can't say I've ever had much to do with red brick buildings. But I will go out of my way to avoid them. It's just like that, either the art to me is bleh or it's too intense. It's really hard to find an inbetween, especially since if it isn't intense enough, like the t a rot of vampyres artwork is to me, then I just don't get into it. Well, anyway... that was my introspective moment of the day and I haven't even had my appt with my therapist, he'd be so proud 😆 *normalize mental health as a topic please* I know you do lisa, I'm just sending it out into the universe. And if one person that feels any ounce of shame reads this, please don't. You're you. Be proud of that. 💜 Back on topic though, I feel like I want the tarot of vampyres even if just for the book. I've heard so many times that it's fantastic. I feel that way about the druidcraft guidebook. And when authors go those extra 100 miles to add so much valuable knowledge that you'd normally be buying at least 2-3 seperate books for, well then the guidebook alone is worth the price already. Unpopular opinion perhaps but Baba Studio decks are overrated and overhyped. Good production quality ig but art / creative wise they're Okay(tm) tbh but that's about it. I feel like the cult-like following of these decks is people trying to justify the crazy prices they've paid for them.

I completely agree! I still want the Alice Tarot but everything else is just meh. I also really hate when deck creators create scarcity. It's one thing to stop printing a deck or do a limited edition of something. It's another to print decks with the intention of getting people to scramble for them. I also hate that they promise reprints and then push them back over and over for years. There might be a legitimate reason for that but since they choose to create that scarcity, I will always see it as a marketing ploy.
