I think that the purpose of showing Asami’s version of Pai Sho and Bolin’s version is to foreshadow the differences between the White Lotus and Red Lotus. The White Lotus was always associated with the game and now we see that you can play the game in different ways, and the Red Lotus does.

Speaking of which, he's a significant part of the reason the Red Lotus even exists in the first place, seeing as he led the "old masters" moment at the end of ATLA which led to the White Lotus going public and the Red Lotus being formed as a response immediately afterwards. Yet another case of a heroic character's actions having major negative repercussions down the line.

An important quote from Unalaq, as he's nearing the completion of his plan: "After today there will be no more Water Tribe; no more nations of any kind. The world is about to be transformed into something magnificent, and new. And I will lead this glorious revolution." So both Zaheer and Unalaq were definitely on the same side when it came to question of dissolving all nations. From what we learn in this episode, it seems that where they differ is that Zaheer wants to shake things up and see what rises to to the top through chaotic competition, while Unalaq wanted to become the guiding messiah of the new era. He was less willing to leave the outcome of the revolution to chance.

I really like the scene with Zaheer and Korra in this episode. Yes, he did use that to stall her, but I like that he is also open with her, answering her questions. Plus you’d be fucked if you melted earth that was in direct contact with you body (lava) Ice could break it, but I meant if the earthbender completely encased their opponent in one move. It’d be easy to pull off, and again there’s no way to break out faster than they can finish you off while you’re stuck Airbenders are most likely to evade this, but they have to land eventually. When they do, they’re *definitely* fucked. Fighting an earthbender is like fighting a water bender in shallow water. It’s over for anyone else 😂

I really, really, REALLY want a Red Lotus-focused series. One focusing on the four Red Lotus members 17 years before LOK begins, as they face their first major test when the Red Lotus as a whole makes a bold move to take advantage of Aang's death and destabilize the entire world on a massive scale. ATLA!Team Avatar and whoever is left from Ozai's Angels are forced to team up against a common enemy, and each of them will get their own Old Masters moment, especially when they face off against the main Red Lotus team (because come on, this is Team Avatar vs. Evil Team Avatar). The grand finale of the series can be the kidnapping attempt.

My thing with Awei not "sensing" them is, as much as he can sense elevated heart rates, he's in a town full of people in a desert. The likelihood that someone is just running around with an elevated heart rate is too high for him to be on the lookout for it, making himself stand out even more than he already does

I think it’s because he doesn’t have a seismic sense. He can detect changes in one’s heart rate, but that’s not the same as having sonar through your feet. Unless he already knows someone is there and is within a few feet of them, I don’t think his perception is higher than the average person.

As for Aiwei not sensing Bolin and Mako in the alley, I can think of a couple explanations: 1) His seismic sense is not as strong as Toph. Toph's seismic sense has to be on whenever she's conscious---it's how she "sees". It's probably automatic for her. Aiwee's probably needs manual activation from him. Even Lin, Toph's daughter only triggers and uses seismic sense when she wants to. Aiwei's is probably the same. Only more frequent since he uses it more as a truth seer. Maybe he only has it on when he's probing for information or when he's talking to someone. 2) Even if his seismic sense is always firing, he's walking along a street with many people walking by. It's like walking along the busy street (pre-covid times ofc), we tend to see a lot of people, faces. In crowds, faces tend to blend together. It likely must be the same with the seismic sense. He doesn't know Bolin and Mako enough to sense them accurately so to Aiwei two random people just scrambled along the alley. Big whoop. And more importantly... 3) He's eating. He let his guard down. And I definitely can relate to that. Lol.

29:40 no, Unolaq did not want to rule the world. Unalaq’s goal was to restore universal balance. Just like Red Lotus wants. The only difference is that Unalaq decided to balance white avatar with black avatar, while Red Lotus wants Avatar no more. For the record, bears do in fact have all five fingers on the front of their paws. Unlike dogs, which are digitigrade (putting all the weight on the ends of their feet, equivalent to the ball of the foot or the upper palm of the hand (the padded area near the base of your fingers)), bears are plantigrade, meaning they put all their weight on the entirety of theirs hands/feet, including the heels of their back and forepaws, unlike dogs which have their ankles and wrists elevated from the ground. As Naga appears to be a bear in the front half and a dog in the back, she is seemingly plantigrade with five toes on her forepaws, and digitigrade with four toes and raised heels for her rear paws.

The “knuckles” Kenny was referring to, some dogs have a fifth claw called a dewclaw in the front or the back hind legs. Sometimes both from and back paws. Dewclaws are similar to a thumb in humans. I see them all the time when doing nail trims on dogs and cats. Also, the origins and variations of Pai Sho remind me of wrestling. It dating back to the Olympics in Ancient Greece, throughout history, varies cultures have adopted wrestling and added variations of the rules to the sport and molded it to the sport of today in collegiate and Olympic wrestling; as well as professional

Pai Sho is a combination of regular chess and chinese checkers by the looks of it. Bolin plays speed chess, and Asami plays strategic chess. And speed chess is more popular street play and big strategic games are more high end. Just some details I picked up in the small amount of those scenes.

This is the same place where Iroh met with the other members of the Order of The White Lotus (the episode where Iroh and Zuko were hidden out into flower pots since they were being tracked down by two Earth Benders). It's been speculated that Iroh meditated and met with other members of the White Lotus through the spirit world. If you will go back to that ATLA episode, you will see that nothing was inside the room where Iroh had a meeting but small things that look like pillow where you sit when you meditate.
