I'm a huge fan of the Midori MD notebooks. I have used them exclusively for daily journaling for the past 3 years. The paper is very fountain pen friendly and as a minimalist I am also very sympathetic to its overall minimalist design. So with that said I am really very excited because today I received my very first Leuchtturm1917 Hardcover notebook. So many positive reviews on its paper and I really couldn't help myself. I even purchased a new fountain pen to use with this notebook. I do that occasionally because it gives me added incentive to Journal lol. Love your reviews and I'm an avid viewer of your content. Thanks for sharing this video because it actually stirred my curiosity enough to go out and make the purchase.

Hi Jeff, thank you so much for your kind comment! Please let me know how you like your Leuchtturm1917. Also what fountain pen did you buy to use with it?
@sistergoldenhair07273 жыл бұрын
The 120gsm version is really buttery smooth and much more fountain open friendly. Before I got back into fountain pens this was my go-to journal and bullet journal. I’ve since moved to stalag yet for that purpose and now wonderland222. Still love these notebooks for my gel pens and ballpoints:)

Hi Pedro, thank you for the comment! I did do a review of the Rhodia Webnotebook here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/h3XVc2BmfKila7c I do like the MeetingBook (though I haven't used one in a while) as you get a nice layout for meeting notes without being too specific. I like having one book that is dedicated to meeting notes.

Yes in general I agree Leuchtturm makes great quality notebooks but sometimes (and not rare) they are in consistent, I have met the cases when they put extra glues on pages, so you can’t fully open them without tearing a bit or at sometimes some of their papers give more resistance on writing than others, but overall bearable for me
@BlakesBroadcast7 ай бұрын
Yes, I have heard about issues with consistency. I think "bearable" is a good description of these notebooks.

Currently using one to document my monthly "pens in use", but not a big fan. I still prefer Tomoe River, and use a "Seven Seas Writer" for journaling.

Hi Dave, thanks for the comment! What do you prefer about TR? I like TR a lot but I must admit that I always have a hard time finishing TR notebooks. The novelty wears off for me. I might be in the minority though because I know so many people only that only use TR.

Thanks for the review. I really enjoy pretty much everything about the notebook that you listed at the end....but i cant get over the paper quality. Not so much the thinness but the texture, i much prefer to have a smoother writing experience. What notebook would you suggest for someone looking for a notebook with similar features but with smoother paper?
@BlakesBroadcast3 жыл бұрын
Hi Lex! I would recommend the Dingbats Earth or the Endless Recorder (ruled, grid or dot, not the blank version). These notebooks both have similar features to Leuchtturm and have better paper. If you like thicker paper go with the Dingbats and if you prefer thinner go with the Endless.

I feel like I somehow got a counterfeit because I did a ton of tests with western EF and Japanese F nib pens on a new Leuchtturm yesterday and all but 2 inks had spots of bleedthrough to some extent.
@BlakesBroadcast3 жыл бұрын
Hi Eleine, I am sorry to hear that your Leuchtturm is not performing well with fountain pens. Leuchtturm notebooks are mass produced and this often means that there is batch variation. It is likely that you got a notebook with a bad batch of paper. If possible, I would ask the seller or Leuchtturm for a replacement. Leuchtturm claims "ink-proof" paper and they should stand behind that claim.

@@BlakesBroadcast thank you for the reply! I've sent off an email and hope to hear back soon. The notebook is absolutely top notch in every other way!

@@nauci Hi Eleine! Now a year has passed from your post :) i am about to buy one. So did they replace the notebook? Is it performing better if they did?
@nauci2 жыл бұрын
@@victorgyulnazaryan2265 they replied saying that nothing had changed. After a bit more research, I think it's just that it's not an inkproof journal for more difficult inks, but does work for ef/f nibs for the majority of inks. I've moved on to tomoe river and other types of journals. I've found that cheaper kokuyo sarasara paper journals is still smoother and holds ink better than Leuchtturm.

Honestly I'm very disappointed in leuchtturm1917 paper. It ghosts too much, even with ballpoint. It distracts me. Was long time Rhodia user had no problems, even though its same paperweight. Even offbrand grocery store 80g note book doest ghost as much. It boggles my mind why leuchtturm1917 ghosts so much, I thought that same paperweight will perform same way.
@BlakesBroadcast2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment. Paperweight unfortunately isn't always the best indicator of paper performance. You can have two papers that are the same weight but have different densities. Paper coatings can also make a big difference.

I find that the words on the other side of the page can be distracting and make it harder to see what I am writing.
