I'm 32 and i grew up on Bobby, Al, Stevie, Teddy and others but they are my absolute favorites. Sometimes i feel I was born in the wrong decade. Music was real, people were more genuine, and not afraid to be free in who they were and create something new. I get lost in my own world listening to the music of the great soul legends.

I'm so glad I found this Bobby Womack cover of "Close to You!" This is an absolutely beautiful & deeply soulful rendition. It stands as its own classic! R.I.P Poet!
@beats4life9712 жыл бұрын
It's not a cover....🤐.
@PhilCherry32 жыл бұрын
@@beats4life971 It is a cover. Bobby Womack was not the original lyricist nor the original singer. I believe this Womack version of the song was done in the mid-1970s, well after The Carpenters made it famous in 1970. Karen Carpenter's crystal clear voice powered this song to the top of the charts. The song was released multiple times by different singers in the 1960s-even before the Carpenters. To me Bobby Womack's interpretation of the song is an instant classic in its own rights. His phrasing; the places he chose to emphasize or soften; he expression of raw deep-love emotions is to me the essence of why he was called "The Poet."

Songs like this reminds me of growing up in the south as a kid and the grown folks will be having a good time drinking, playing cards, cooking a pig and what not, while the kids are running around minding their business playing games and having a good time. We have lost our way nowadays. Kids dont even know what real fun is anymore.

Man, the first licks of that guitar in this gem almost brings tears to my eyes. It is so real, soulful, and powerful. I grew up in the Deep South years ago listening to my parents and older relatives playing this genuinely fantastic music. They'd sit around and talk about current world affairs. Their conversations were so DEEP as well as the music. Man, Bobby's music was perfect since he's always been "real, not commercial". Thank God I have those experiences!!!
