That's how I got into Star Trek. One episode of Reading Rainbow LeVar is like This is how TV works. And he put on his Geordi glasses and then suddenly he was on the set of Star Trek. I was pretty young yet but I was a lifer to Star Trek Next Gen until it went off air.

Indeed, it was. I feel really privileged that I was introduced to LeVar Burton via both Reading Rainbow and Star Trek: The Next Generation during my childhood in the 1980's. I still fondly remember the one episode of RR when LeVar took viewers behind the scenes of Star Trek: The Next Generation. I also remember reading many of the books featured on Reading Rainbow, usually from visiting the library in my town.

One thing I took away from Reading rainbow that I still carry with me to this day as a 33 year old adult, he would read the name of the author, and the name of the illustrator. That taught me not only to look at the content, but the people behind the content that I’m consuming.

That struck me like lightning when LeVar credited everyone who worked on the book. Dealing with the onset of AI and I just watched a video where someone bought a book on how to draw and realized he got scammed because it was poorly put together by AI, and reviewing it if he just looked for the credit of the illustrators involved he would have saved himself a lot of headaches.

I didn't grow up watching Mr. Rogers Neighborhood or Reading Rainbow but I have watched a few episodes of each as an adult. My aunt who taught English in the Peace Corps (Ivory Coast, West Africa), used to read to me whne I was a kid. I grew up spending my weekends in the public library with my BFF. When my reading level was tested my freshman year of high school, I read on a first year college level. I also outscored 98% of the people who took the college entrance exam at the local community college. I used to dream of being an English teacher but instead, majored in journalism. Reading is a passion for which thankfully, there is no cure.

Didn't know about Lavar in Roots or Rodgers. I will say that Lavar Burton Started me off on Reading Rainbow then carried that love in Star Trek. Now while Gregg Braden wrote The God code which narrows our DNA to a few ancient middle easter languages. For the past 5 years, I have not only specified which language but also the specific script used. Along with over a dozen images of 3 main figures. Which span square inches to square feet. A big help was the DNA episode of star trek where many pieces of DNA made a hologram at the end. The phrase "They want us to find it" really stuck and its true. Thanks to Lavar Burton not only did he instill a love of reading and science but of common sense answers that will wrap things up within a half hour. :) Thank you so much Geordie. Because of you we can have hope for The Enterprise in the future. ( I can send the stills and footage via email ) Its just taking me too long solo as its far from easy being a man out of time.
