I've done level 8 purges. The reward isn't really anything to write home about. I think it's mainly the strategic aspect of getting your base prepared, as well as the wild intensity of the event, that makes it worthwhile. It's kind of like the early Siptah version of the storm, when things would become totally chaotic (since made kind of boring.)

one way the could improve tier 4 thralls is either give them 4th trait slot or give them pre-set ability or a characteristic . like always doing frost ot poison damage, always using heavy,having innate shieldbreaker ,etc .

Excellent ideas, I would love to see unique characteristics for t4 men, although it would further make anything not t4 essentially pointless except super early game

@@mewkatlol The easiest way of making lower tier thralls essential would be to simply introduce a cap for active T4 thralls per player or clan. Let's say you can have one (non-artisan) T4 thrall of each profession active, that means 1 fighter, 1 archer, 1 bearer and 1 dancer. In order to reach the maximum for your thralls, you would need to fill up the rest with T3 or even lower thralls. Now that I think about it, it would actually be quiet easy to introduce a multiple-tier building like the temples and each tier would raise the cap for certain tiers of thralls. For instance, T1 of the building would let you recruit an unlimited amount of T1 thralls, 10 T2 thralls, 1 T3 thrall and 0 T4 thralls. T2 of the building would let you recruit an unlimited amount of T1 and T2 thralls, 10 T3 thralls and 1 T4 thrall. T3 of the building would also lift the cap for T3 thralls and raise the cap for T4 thralls up to 2, while the T4 version of the building would eventually set the cap for T4 thralls to a total of 4. In addition, this building could provide your thralls collectively with passive traits (maybe even with a multiple choice variant) for each tier and you could couple it with the feeding mechanic. That way you could make T4 thralls a lot more powerful and unique compared to lower tiers without breaking the balance, while also introducing a somewhat new game mechanic.

Side note if Funcom feels they made a mistake with the Brute and Thugra they should patch that on a hot fix within a week not 3+ months later. Tbh I thought it was great to have kick arse Darfari. But if they go oops and don’t fix it right away this is just bloody frustrating playing this game

Yeah it kind of surprised me How some people still haven't realized this Isn't something that's just happened. This has been around for a long time. You have to look at it from a Balance point of view their extremely easy to kill too if you're not careful. They sacrifice a large health Pole for a large damage pool. They have a power of a t4 but lack health. The other thing you have to keep in mind. They tend to be extremely random when it comes to their sat growth. You can't guarantee you're going to get one. That's going to have 90% even 80% or higher in health or Damage. So you're still gonna be playing Russian rollette. 😅 I've tested having multiple brutes. Level 20 best armor humanly possibly the best stats 20 of them guarding my base level 10 purge wipe them all out. They did really good up until about wave 3. They are not meant for level 10 purge grown fights.. They don't have the health to survive... That's where bearers come in You get one with 15k health or 20k golem's As door and gate guards. Use the Brutes as archers And then get a good balance thrall like a Diana Or something the follow you around. I can't wait for exploding Golems and Catapult in chapter 3. Just a rumor right now. But it means that people who built Archer mazes are going to be f***** 😂 You can't choose a catapult Shooting fire bombs at your base. 😊

It sounded great, when you said tier 5 thralls, but then it was disappointing to realize, that it's just tier 5 in the name - it would be nice to have a chance to get some really strong ones like Ladagara, the Arena Champion or something like the ones from AoC, but I guess it would upset the balance in PvP...

Was thinking the same. I guess one Thing to fix it would be to gives us actual T5 Thralls. T5 Crafters to be specific, that give actually better Bonuses on crafted Armor or Weapons than your normal named Crafters.

Interesting. So it sounds like the T5 thralls are not really worth the potential damage to your base/thralls vs the thralls you can just pickup in game. I'm curious though, are those recipes available in the L8/9 purges? It would seem these recipes are the only thing really unique.

Purges have gone from an impending doom i would get a bit nervous about, to a fun park ride I can ignore completely. The Funcom guys are on their livestreams going on about how destructive the destroyers are and everyone is just building murder mazes far from their real bases anyway.

First, Thank You for giving it to us straight! And always making quality content. Second, I’ve completed a level 10 once, after many failed attempts. The final nail was when I tested another location and got a Janos from the cage. Third, I definitely agree that the risk:reward needs better balancing Last of all, I think they need to implement a set amount of waves to each purge as well as a mechanic that allows to at least pick up unleveled thralls to be placed in your inventory for later use. That would help bringing crafting thralls to purge.

The stats on the Siptah thralls and the Old Purge thralls were not updated for Age of War. I think an “oopsie” is the reason that they have less damage but more HP, not a balance choice.

I beat a level 10 with archers loaded with noxious gas arrows and a gate house with two gates stacked. Plenty of fighters from various factions mixed with pikes and one handed weapons in the court yard. Some accidental cheese: My main base is on the South side of noob River, west of Neebs Island, North-West of that exile camp that spawns a Taskmaster, fighter and random Professional/Crafter (I forget the coordinates, hopefully ya'll know where I'm talking about.) Basically, the threat 10 I spawned on the day Chapter 2 went live: it spawned directly East on the opposite side of the little gulf(?) I'm built on. Every wave of enemies, at least a few would start trying to walk through the water or swim and just loose aggro and vibe on the beach. Still a hell of a fight! I got two Luba's, a Lianeele, an Ama and a named Bearer from Siptah that had worse starting HP than a standard T4 and really bad HP per tick in VIT. Broke bounds at level 10. Not sure if He was Black Corsair or Lemurian Remnant.

The new Purge system looks and plays worse than ever. I love how the Destroyer thralls patiently wait their turn in line to be killed. 9:02 You can't strategically build your base anymore since the purge won't activate unless you build in an open area that is easy to get to. Rewards are not good to make matters worse.

I've just completed my first purge. It was level 10. I didn't know what I was getting into. I did have a friend help me. He lost 2 of his best thralls. So I will have to replace them, LOL. It was a fun exciting time, but I see what you mean, why would you want to do it. It is expensive to say the least. It is fun. I'm making my base better and planning better for the next time. I wish I would have watched you video first though, LOL.

Currently at level 5 myself. After getting loads of fighters and undead mercd at each purge i decided on strictly archer thralls and then brimstone iron and couple crystal golems. tend to almost lose a golem on each tier 4-5 purge. archers if set up high enough don't take enough damage to die if you just chuck a thrall pot down, so spamming them seems viable.

So far, the highest level purge I have defeated without doing a test where I was using admin abilities while doing base design testing is Level VI. Of course this is doing it as a single person clan with a Dalinsia Snowhunter L10 (Red. S.L. Armor) follower and 10 L0 Cimmerian Berserker (Cim Chainmail Armor) equipped with their default Star Metal Weapon and 10 L0 Du’neman The Dragoon archers (Cim Fur Armor) equipped with Star Metal bows and arrows (100 ea). No weapon kits on any of the troops, but all having 100 gruel for food. Archers all on the castle walls, Berserkers located in front of the main gate. Suffered one Berserker loss and one archer. Apparently the archer jumped down off the wall based on his death location. This was the first time on had jumped from the wall in my testing though. None of the thrall armors/weapons were modified for better performance.

I don't understand why it's so difficult to follow the original design plan of thralls having more damage and health based on difficulty to acquire and their rarity. The fact we have Cannibal Brutes which are found in early game locations having the most damage output is just backwards design philosophy. I would be EXTREMELY disappointed if they left brutes like this for months and just as disappointed for not making the more difficult to acquire thralls way more stronger, like Karthok of the Great Beast

It's a glorified glass Canon... Extremely high damage at the cost of inventory space and health... This wasn't an accident. 😊

I've only done up to level 5 and I got the recipes for the rations, strategy table, and burning siege cauldron. I'm guessing they changed it after you did this video. Eventually I will get to a 10 but it's pretty difficult alone lol

SInce the lagg issue has been resoleved we defeated a level 10 puge with 2 players and 6 thralls and 1 player with 8 thralls. it's all about build location and access to your base.

I've had issues getting the purge to initiate if I pick a really good tactical location. Someone on another platform suggested clearing the area around the base as a possible solution, so that's on my testing list.

I got so many named Bearers like Amazdi, Carries thorugh storm, and so on when running t10 purges. As said before, it just not seems worth it to do that purge more than a couple of times. They have to add converted crafters as items in chests. It does not help that the purge will only get harder later with siege-type enemies..

I've done a lvl 10 and it was fun to do. Wasn't as hard as I was told. This was done on Isle of Siptah. The server Glitched and i lost all my thralls on Exile Lands so I only have done up to lvl 8 over there.

Built a special purpose structure and archer platforms and with five level 20 thralls and myself and four archers, am about to try Level III now..........as a solo player I will call it a win if I can beat a Level V (without losing level T4 thralls in the process). Been dragging archers around for weeks now leveling them up for the new purge. If you can slow them down you stand a better chance. Sometimes the purge works and then it fails even in the same place with nothing changed, just keep trying till it works. Will gas and explosive arrows damage your thralls if they use them on the purge fighters.

Honestly I think Thugra and the brute's stats are fine. It makes sense in lore for brutes to be strong. The problem lies in the higher tier thalls stats. I remember before the thrall leveling system Brutes were just as strong with high survival stats, but the weakness was low health grit and agility which meant he would hit hard and healed off food longer but attacked less often and was easly staggered. When they revamped the thrall system alot of thralls that had unique perks and skills like that lost them. I would like to see more of this come back so every named thrall feels like a different companion again. Instead of the current copy paste system that has taken over. Where they all feel the same till level 20. Then you look at the modifiers and go "Do stats like grit even matter anymore?"

I suggest they should add all thralls from surge as obtainable. I would love to have the aesir berserkers in exiled land. Btw, if funcom wants to make more money. They should do something to character's models(better hairs, faces, bodies, .. etc.) rather than arnor skins.

ive taken on a lvl 4 and messed up and got my base wrecked but another time I didnt have issues but other times it was glitchy so its weird and I also was lvl up my brute and it glitched out and just went away into the either of nothingness . I think I experienced some bugs but moving forward I will be gathing more brutes and ill put a focus on them lvl them up as much as I can.

I have got bearer with 0.8 modifiers from purge (backpacker Henrik). Also i got 3x T4 dancers from single level 7 purge. I havent got out single archers/fighters with good modifiers, which is sad. Also i think reward chestes are kind of lacklusters. For me T4 dancers alone are always worth to do purge. But in my understanding not all ppl care about dancers and lot of ppl are disappointed with overall rewards of these purges.

I defeated multible lvl 10 purges with a friend so far. Our key strategy? Archers on the walls with gas arrows, multible golems and zombies in front of the gate to tank for a long time and keep the enemys in the gas. Also golem and zombies are easily replacable when they die. Some T4 fighters after the first gates with mighty weapons, armor and damage buff to slaughter everything that break thrue. I've got a draw bridge to my base as a final fail save instruction. In the unlikely case that the purge would be too strong, just lift the bridge and they'll retreat. Forthe loot: I also got another Derketo idol statue from the purge camp once. Overall: The purge system is in need for some adjustments for variety and bug fixes for sure, but I have more fun with Conan than I had in AoW 1, and with the purge challenges I've got a reason to keep farming stuff and weapons, craft armors and catch thralls for the next attack and I don't have to worry if my purge meter is filling up to fast while other clan members are offline.

Also, you can get Cannibal Brutes from Level 1-2. I hope you're not planning on showing the lava thing...... lol

No Wak, those lower level thralls are not trash, "fodder". I agree with the balance issues of difficulty to get vs power. It also kills me that some archers have better melee stats and some fighter better ranged. I've run a VI successfully and am still testing out treasure vault designs.

I went up to level 6 purge and to be honest I stopped and went back to farming dungeon chests because level 4 thru 6 purges got me loads of junk to organize....the best rewards that I got in the new purge were actually in a level 3 purge: got a named bearer thrall and sellsword

Watching this vid reminds me how much I hate the new combat changes. I get interrupted to many times out of my attack while enemies never seem to know when they're getting hit and just attack you through your combo. Also, the human AI won't "shut up" and stop with their combo. I'd like to get on with it already but we have to wait until they are finished with their performative dance.

I've done a 10 and my mates and I just kind of looked at each and asked what for? Though I will say I did get a female equivalent to Ulric so that was nice but the rest of the thralls I don't really plan on using except for the dancers but at the end of th day dancers are just an ecstatic part of the game for me.

Thanks for doing the video so we can talk about this. Aside from the vanity of playing 'new content', there's no reason to continuously do purges because there are better ways to get greater rewards. The first question should be, why is Funcom completely oblivious or worse, intentionally creating content that goes nowhere? How easy would it be to change around some item values to have a greater disparity in quality for new, end game content? Your talking about the lowest effort thing they could have done to draw people back in and they can't even do that. Whereas a normal company would release a host of new rewards for their big content updates. At one time I thought this game had a lot of promise but the developers overseeing these new updates do not strike me as passionate about the game they're making.

Hey wak....but I got ambusher tyra from a normal relic hunter purge before the change....it is only Tier 4. You didn't get t5 thralls from your lvl 10 purge completion? Could it be that an example of a t5 thrall is someone like colvric the blade from the surge?

I agree, the new purge system might be fun but the rewards are not worth it. It's strange to me that they changed the loot tables for chests in dungeons and that gives you pretty good stuff but the chests in the purge camp gives a bunch of crap. BTW I got the stygian coffer recipe from a level 5 purge I defeated.

I have a question. What happened to the t5 thralls of the old purge system? like the Ymir named priests e.g. Since there is only one spawn point on the exiled map for named Ymir priest (Anestera the seeres in new asagarth). There are a bunch of other thalls too that used to belong to the old purge system and they do not spawn on the map far as I've seen. I've completed 3 lv 10 purges now and it seems I have all the rewards it is going to give sooooooo not sure why to do more purges other than just because.

I really don't have an issue with the Cannibal Brute because they are a glass cannon. They might have great damage but they can't take a licking like the cimmy or snowhunter can. My biggest issue with the purge is trying to figure out why it keeps failing to spawn.

It most likely means your treasure room is in a place inaccessible to npcs. If you build on a platau even if you have steps/ramp up they not show the lower areas as a place they can spawn.

Can you not still knock out all the attacking thralls? Just load all your own Thralls with Truncheons. And when you gathered what you want to keep then equip your Thralls with weapons. Or has game dynamics changed that much you can't knock out purge attackers?

I have 7 Ladagaras (learned thru admin events), 2 arena Champs (admin events), 3 demonic spiders admin events), Half Child of Dagon and about 12 emissary of h/tsa. Oh and one witch queen. But still unsure about doing a high level purge. I don't care about building damage or even losing loot I just don't want to lose a thrall of that quality....and it sounds like level 10 purge thrall rewards aren't even close to being worth it. Inhave my base near Mounds of the Dead so I can farm Berzerks and Snowhunters like crazy

Multiple lvl X with 2 ppl & 30 thralls (5 of them lvl 20) done. 1 thing for sure, you will lose some walls and thralls :-) System is fine, needs to be a bit smarter (multi targets, multi entry points, scourch earth instead of just 1 door) and 1000% on with needing a reason (besides bragging rights) to do a +30minute purge for worse thralls and cheap loot.

What is the best map to play on? I want to have access to basically everything available. From what I see most of the events and updates happen on the main map but not the sipta one.

Best map is the default one called the exiled lands. This is the map that everyone who owns the game has access to so makes sense that most of the content is available on this. isle of siptah is dlc. They do try to make the content on exiled lands available on siptah too but the story and events from the different chapters involves exiled lands.

I have played Conan with husband for years now and not liking purge change, it seems so dumb to have to manually begin purge. There used to more sense if urgency to get as many thralls around your base asap because a purge could come at any time. Now what is the point?

Yeah it just used to make sense to line up thralls around your regular base but now that need is pretty much taken away for PVE. You have to put down a specific chest and tell the purge to come.@@gazz3867

Thanks for the video. This only confirms this new Purge system is a waste of time and a waste of your own assets. To make things worse, the latest patch broke the coup de grace...again. at least on the PS consol it is.

Yes it's a katana. You can find it in the dungeon The Dregs, by defeating the giant spider boss.

I got that in the dregs. It really sucked because the game glitched and 1 giant spider became 2. Had my hands full with that fight.

Maybe it's just me but I really didn't feel much of a loss with the level 10. Although I can agree there needs to be some balancing with the stats to some extent.. I do understand why the brute would have such a high modifier. Bug or not... You're not gonna see a cannibal brute With 6 to 7K health. So I can understand the idea even if this was Done on purpose. Something that can hit really hard but die extremely easy. As somebody who has taken the level 10 Down multiple times with ease. There's no real danger or threat. Accept for those that get attached to stuff. Which is why i'm hoping the rumors about exploding Golam's And catapults used in chapter 3 purges are real rumors. We will get introduced with higher tier than 10 for those looking for a chance to test their metal. And really see weather there base can hold up against a siege. Instead of just losing a couple of doors and thralls. 😂 let's be honest doors and thralls are easy to replace. Even more so now since it only takes 45 minutes for T4. And sense you can trigger the purge whenever you want. It's not like you have to be in a rush.

Just wanted a make a side note because I noticed this in somebody else's comment... The cannibal brute is not meant for level 10... They don't have the health poll to survive the way to the end. I had over 20 of them and they got wiped out. Best armor in the game best potential stat growth using potions and food. 😅 You can't win with them. They're to squishy all that damage Don't mean s*** if they die extremely fast.

A combination of normal armors. Kambujan shaman skirt, Hyena skull helmet, etc. She comes with those default (I met her in surges on the Isle of Siptah).

The pruge in the new system has one purpose for me to do (SP/PvE). Its "kinda fun" to fight with so many npcs at the same time - You get this battle feeling. BUT on the other hand the outcome, even on a lvl 10 level - is not worth the effort. Half of the thralls i send back (break the bond) and the other half is cannonfodder for the next purge. nothing is really unique. The stuff in the treasurs is mostly bull****. Most of this stuff i throw away. The clothes, the furnitures, the few materials. ... mnothing unique. By the way. why are there so few golem parts in the treasure chest? Only one in a lvl 10 purge. really?). - Anyway. with the right location of your base and many poison arrows you can handle a 10 lvl purge. A water or lava base with a narrow path to the entrance is a winner. But I really liked the old system. yes, the outcome with material or gold or anything was small, but they were unpredictable! Where does the horde attack? Now i have pulled all my thralls down to one entrance. 20+x archers + 9 T4 (cannonfodder) fighters + 9 or 10 zombies and 9 or 10 iron golems. So long lvl 10 purge. But still with all my dissatisfaction for the new purge. I play it because it's there and I can watch in "peace and quiet" with a few poison arrows. ;-) But i miss a better reward. I found better loot wandering the savage lands - better weapons in fights with bosses...

The thing with the Cannibal Brute is they become glass cannons. Their health starts at around 500 or so, and then gaining 59.5 health per vitality point means that even with 100% growth in vitality, means they're only gonna have a few thousand hp at best and will melt if they get hit. I took a max level cannibal brute in against the arena champion and she got her block knocked off rather easily. I still agree with you about the rewards from the purge though.

Yeah melee would be strength and ranger would be agility.

It depends of weapon what stat it uses. There are even bows, and some of em uses agility and some strength.

@@LeoFINuTube That is true for stats, but the innate damage modifiers are different. Still amazes me that most fighters have higher ranged dmg modifiers than their archers of same tier and faction. Funcom tweakin still.

As I saw myself, purge is useless. Fun sometimes, but brings only cheap items and weak thralls. In the tim I make a purge I could do some dungeons and te rewards are bigger.

you can get all of those recipe and thrall from lv6 purge higher level only increase the chance of it did 50+ lv10 its not worth doing anymore its just wasting time

The game always sucked when it came to thralls, it has always been "start a new game, run straight to where the best thrall is, start beating them with a stick, never bother with another combat thrall ever again". The purge revamp hasn't changed any of that, no point in doing it at all when everything you get is either worse or equal to what you can get already elsewhere.

the thralls from lvl 10 r worse than previous purge thralls, every reward just needs a buff , maybe more unique rewards. The merchant is the biggest joke basically sells trash. Time to reward return is overall just bad EDIT didrik the chieftan, t4 bears with the 0.8 multis also appear. Honestly none are great

Nice video, now try that on console, where the simple action of opening your wheelbar causes lag and stutter and most likely half those mobs gonna be invisible. But yea who cares for console players right? Anyways, not worth doing a purge 10. Not a single item there that justify the hassle it is to beat it and if p10 is not worth it, imagine under.
