I absolutely agree with your points in this video. I love the flexibility of DT Samurai and the new changes to Tsubame. I love it when the game devs recognize that they messed up (like they did with Tsubame at DT launch), and instead of doubling down on their design choice, they listen to the players' criticism about the state of the job, and change it accordingly. They could have easily just detached Tsubame from Meikyo and still make it have 2 charges, but by allowing you to use Tsubame after every single Midare, they played so much into the class fantasy of a flurry of slashes after a cast time while at the same time making it more flexible because of Iaijutsu's range and more fun to play since you are able to use your powerful attacks more often instead of buttons just taking up hotbar space outside of the 2 min window. The Tsubame rework is one of the most successful ones they have ever done imo, and I'm really glad I'm not the only one enjoying how good it feels.

dude. ADHOC Samurai at the start of DT was the most interesting iteration it has ever been. Just because if you are not doing fillers - the whole rotation became crooked. And taming that beast was very fun. Or you could just do Hagakure fillers and stay in line but it you had to choose your filler wisely. Now you just don't need them anymore. It is too easy to be remotely fun. What is wrong with you people?
@KascGoobbue3 ай бұрын
@@DrZlow I don't think you're wrong for liking DT release ADHOC Sam, but I politely disagree. Current ADHOC Sam to me is more interesting because you have greater flexibility into where you put your ranged attacks which is an important consideration in current fight design. On top of that, current Meikyo acceleration uses the same concepts behind ADHOC Sam at the start of DT, but just expressed in a different form. It is true you don't need Hagakure fillers in current Sam, but if you want, you can have the choice to delay your rotation 2 or 3 gcds depending on which Sen consume for Hagakure whereas at launch, you just had to use it. In my opinion, the increased flexibility to your rotation and how that intersects with how fights are designed this expansion allows for a deeper expression of skill and plays more into the class fantasy of Samurai than at DT launch. I don't think we're gonna convince each other, so I think this is just a moment where we have to agree to disagree.

I main samurai so as soon as I saw this video made by you I was like hell yea! When people have asked why I play sam I have always explained its been a fun job for me and I feel like its a well designed job with flexibility. It does feel nice to hear you say that too! Played it in Endwalker and Dawntrail. It was a bit iffy at the beginning of DT with its first changes (iykyk) but they soon fixed it by allowing Tendo and Kaeshi (the big moves) to be more flexible so that if you hit a button you wont lose it which you explain nicely in the video. As someone who has been playing sam for a while you impressed me with what you covered here with how meikyo efficiency would be collecting 3 combo sens and not the 2 combo one. I am not surprised that you caught on all its optimization parts since you are a solid player! ^^

I played alot of SAM during Endwalker, one of my favorite things about the jobs identity has always been the Iaijutsu, for the simple reason that I love Rurouni Kenshin and sword draw attacks are essentially his master signature, so getting to emulate that in a playable job has always been incredibly fun, particularly the Tsubame-Gaeshi recast weaponskill as to me that basically embodies his Ultimate attack the Amakakeru Ryu no Hirameki that he fully utilizes for the first time against Shishio (fellow weebs, i'm sure you know what i'm talking about); when they changed Tsubame-Gaeshi in 7.05 to be a ready buff after literally every single Midare, I was so over the moon, like you said that buff makes it so that you can ready another Midare while holding onto the recast, and you get to do 3 Midares back to back to back, add onto that Ogi Namikiri and its own Kaeshi recast, plus the oGCDs like Shoha, Senei, and Zanshin, if you're able to time everything correctly during the burst window you get just this string of ultra hard-hitting screen-shaking attacks that just make your character feel unbelievably powerful and it's genuinely one of the most satisfying things i've ever had the pleasure of feeling in this game

What I love most about Samurai now is the change to how Tsubame-Gaeshi is copied in this patch. Many people still haven't realize it, but they changed something very huge that wasn't addressed in the patch. Specifically, where it automatically copies whatever Iaijutsu you do now, it allows for something that wasn't ever possible before. You could never break the Tsubame-Gaeshi follow-up with another GCD beforehand. It would erase the follow-up. But now, you can store the Tsubame-Gaeshi for 30 seconds until you have your next Midare Settsugekka stored and do something like... Mekiyo Shisui > Sen Combo > Tendo Settsugekka > [skip Tsubame-Gaeshi for now] Mekiyo Shisui > Sen Combo > [now use previous Tsubame-Gaeshi] Kaeshi: Tendo Settsugekka > Tendo Settsugekka > Kaeshi: Tendo Settsugekka. It's so useful for fitting everything in burst windows alongside Higanbana from the 2 minute burst window onward.
@avi33653 ай бұрын
Yes, yes it is. I picked Samurai for this tier before the 7.05 changes and since I was running hardcore, I had to free style the entire thing trying to figure out how to optimize it with the changes. The changes seem small, but they are actually so huge. It wasn't until after clearing savage I got to sit down with the new Sam, hit a dummy for a few hours and figure out how to play it properly. It's hella fun and quite 'brain on' compared to other melee. I love it.

I never give it a serious logical thought. We'd hit wall bosses that are physically very far away but their hitboxes extend halfway if not even further into the boss arena, and you'd easily have a 25y+ distance away from their physical model but you're still doing melee just fine. Spells are pretty funny, too, since those that have projectile animations just nyoom a long distance very fast before impacting target (i.e. Broil 2/3/4).

Unfortunately I was not convinced. Which is fine. There are 20 other classes in the game and its ok not to like some of them. Opposed to dragon with its more rigid rotation or monk managing buff and debuff uptime (have not played monk since the dawntrail rework) keeping me engaged in the class during the fight.

I was learning Samurai right when that patch change that gave you Kaeshi Setsugekka after every Midare dropped and it was amazing. I can’t say “countless” fights I had messed that up, but enough to know it would be a common problem and it’s a huge potency loss when it happens. Even worse that it wasn’t entirely obvious why you couldn’t hold it. I think the follow up for Zanshin is still “use it immediately or lose it” but that’s fine as it’s very much a burst window cooldown you’re so the intentionality around when you decide to use it is substantially higher and unique.
