Phil Gould. Still the best drummer Level 42 had. There have definitely been players with all the chops since like Gary H and now Pete R B, but Phil had the groove and the right feel. I am a massive Gary Husband fan ,but you can't beat Mr Gould.

Half a dozen years ago, I picked up a guy as an uber passenger from backstage at Blossom Music Center that I think was the current Bassist for Crissy Hinds when she was in town (her home, Akron). We were talking about Bass players, and I said that Mark King was one of my favorites. At first, the guy didn't seem to know who that was, until he said, in kind of a snarky way "Oh yeah. He's a slapper". i just thought to myself - I bet he could slap circles around you.

Level 42 " Love Games " Lyrics Verse As I watch your face I can see my life go by You mean everything to me Just can't take no more Throw a smile my way And the pain I feel inside Turns to love for you And I'm yours Chorus Do lovers ever need to hide The things they really feel inside I simply need you to need me Can't you see Verse Once I hoped to be Your lover and your friend But it turned into a game I won't play no more I believe I'm right When I say you loved me too It just can't go on Your love games Your love games Chorus Do lovers ever need to hide The things they really feel inside If you won't show your heart to me Set me free Verse Now the time has come To show you how I feel The love I gave to you I can't give no more Even now I see The salt tears in your eyes But it can't go on Your love games Your love games Your love games Your love games (Repeat to fade) Songwriters: Mark King / Philip Gould Love Games is the first single from Level 42 first & self titled Album " Level 42 " It was also their first Single to break into the UK Top 40... Though regarded as a classic Level 42 song it only reached Number 38 in the UK Top 40 during the Spring of 1981 but such was its popularity that it went on to help to Level 42 get their first appearance on the long running " British Music Chart " Television Programme Top Of The Pops aka TOTP... Which was made by the BBC & originally broadcast weekly between the 01/01/1964 up until 30/06/2006 & TOTP cemented its place in TV history for being at one time the world's longest running weekly Music Show... The single " Love Games " by Level 42 fast became a classic that would remain all the way through Level 42's career & became one of their most beloved & famous signature songs that they always played Live in the same way as Queen will forever be remembered for their classic single " Bohemian Rhapsody " & also Duran Duran's classic single " Rio " Though i venture some in the USA will say that it would be the single " The Reflex " As eventually " The Reflex " went on to become the first of 2 Singles to hit Number 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 & became Duran Duran's breakthrough that they were seeking in the USA & would go on to become a long term established band that would go on to continually strive to try something different with each new album, all the while working with the brightest & best producer's insured Duran Duran would try to remain fresh & deliver a volume of 14 Studio Albums with the release of their 2015 " Paper Gods " Album becoming their 9th Top 5 album overall & making them one of only a handful of bands who have scored Top 5 albums in 4 consecutive decades... Not bad considering they were labelled by their critics as a one hit boy band that relied on their pretty boy good looks than their talent as musician's & singwriters & its safe to say they proved their detractors wrong & then some... Thankfully all 3 Band's are still touring/though having various line up changes through all those year's/& playing Live when their schedule permits this... I was so looking forward to seeing Level 42 play Live again (as i last saw them play Live back in 2016) & again it would be in the same month of October but this time in 2020... I rarely book so early in advance but with it being their 40th Anniversary Tour I decided to had book my 2 Tickets in advance back in December 2019 to ensure i'd get to see the lads doing what they do best & thats playing Live... Plus this tour had the added bonus of them going out on tour again to celebrate their 40th Anniversary with the tour name being a nice twist of an Oscar & Multiple Award Winning classic Movie " From Here To Eternity " but with Level 42 paying a nice homage & twist to this movie by calling their 40th Anniversary the " From Eternity To Here " Tour... But no doubt as all Level 42 fans will now know the decision was made to cancel the tour until October 2021 for safety reasons & the greater good of all those worldwide doing their bit to try & stop this coronavirus from starting a 2nd Wave of infections... It was simply a matter of common sense prevailing that led to the step of cancelling & rescheduling Level 42's 40th Anniversary Tour until October 2021... As it will give us all a better chance of containing & eradicating Covid-19 thus minimising any chance of fans & all those involved with planning & preparing this tour from either unknowningly catching &/or unintentionally spreading Covid-19... With that all being said i will add that " In light of the still ongoing coronavirus stay safe and healthy wherever you are in the world... .....
