Phil gould, amazing player. Whereas people play along to click tracks through their in ear monitors these days, he is keeping impeccable time with the hot water bass/keyboard loop which must be coming out of those massive monitors behind his drums.

Couldnt agree more! Playing with a click is easy with experience. Playing without a click in a band a whole another level of hard

“Level 42” are amazing, they were brilliant at their best when it was Mark, Mike, Phil and Boon. ✌️☺️

Totally and utterly superb! We wore our VHS copy out. One one the best bands (both as writers and live) in the world. Thanks for the upload.

They did everything justice live- Their Pillars are Live - which has kept Them upright since 80 regardless of line up.

My dad videoed it off bbc2 on our phillips 2000 recorder. It was only an hour long and had some songs cut. Had to wait a few years but got it on video for a birthday, played it everyday for years! Still got it in the loft.

Mad. There must have been mega promotion going on then, with stage shows, mega-sound-production and the like. And then the plug is pulled, back to a normal band and few are listening. Oh well. Showbiz is always a kind of rise and fall tale, innit?
@davidsanderson5918

Wasn't quite like that. They had monster hits during most of 1985, 1986 going into 1987 so naturally their shows, after so many years building their following steadily, suddenly thrust them into arenas and the long residency at Wembley. Half the band (the brothers on guitar and drums) then left due to a mix of disenchantment with the band's direction as well as exhaustion with the hard work. But they still had big ambitions with their replacement members as well as the album that came along in 1988. By 1989 going into 1990 the peak of their worldwide success had certainly passed. But hey....it took almost half a decade for the bubble to deflate and the hits to dry up, as it were. True Level 42 fans though weren't bothered. They loved the old material before all this in any case. Plus most would agree that the album Forever Now, released after the big commercial period had passed and before the long hiatus began, was a fine album. So the plug was never pulled as such. They gradually returned to what they really were and what they remain to be to this day....a well-loved Britfunk band with serious chops. :)
