Thanks for posting this. I taped it off the radio back in the day and played it loads until some little scrote broke into my car and nicked all my tapes in '88. I still remembered every bit of that sax solo on Heathrow. Brilliant.

I love how kansas city milkman starts quick and slows down to the right speed. This is indeed a great period for the band..85/86. I did enjoy seeing them in Bath recently, and it's great to see Mark and Mike and hear those songs. But this recording was made in exciting times and you can hear that. Love them dearly and I'm glad they still work.

Annie McCaig, just brilliant
@funky_monk_97962 жыл бұрын
Agreed, what a stalwart Annie was during their heyday, great singer and a key part of the L42 sound at that time. I recently discovered that from around the early 2000s, Annie moved (back?) to Edinburgh where she ran a small café/art gallery on the Royal Mile. She sold up in about 2017-18 and is now retired I think. She worked as a session singer in London for 20 years (1980s-90s) apparently, with various well known groups. Wish I had known she was in Edinburgh, I must have passed her café a dozen times when she was there!

Superb, they were on fire despite Phil's issues.They crowd were going bonkers !
@KennyO303 Жыл бұрын
Phil's issues? The current band is fire but pales in comparison to the chemistry these particular four had. Phil's groove is as deep as Jeff Porcaro in my humble opinion, and the songwriting was never the same after the Gould brothers left. I have lots of love for Level 42, past and present. Mark King's 'Influences' um, influenced me. I'll always be a fan 🤘🏼
@garylester6878 Жыл бұрын
@@KennyO303 i meant he wasn't happy with the new musical direction, he'd already decided to quit at the end of the tour. I think that line up was amazing but the current one with Pete Biggin on drums and the full brass section sounds superb too. I am going to see them this year, maybe for the last time as Mark and Mike are a lot older now. But bloody hell they can still play ! we all hope they get with Phil and Wally and write new stuff.
@markwoodhouse428410 ай бұрын
I thought it was the musical direction of the Running In The Family album that caused the rift but as always I'm happy to stand corrected.
@micheloderso6 жыл бұрын
I heard them first in 1986 in a "Rockpalast" Session. My first thought was: "That's it"! New, fresh, funky. Now, by the way, they got older and the sound is better but the statement is more pop. The spirit has gone.

Thank You Gordon. CD and Vinyl have been released by the BBC (known as the "BBC Transcription") but some of the tracks have been edited, cutting some solos or instrumental parts. Also these BBC records feature The Sun Goes Down instead of Turn it On. The BBC Transcriptions version can be heard here : kzbin.info/www/bejne/a2KTd5J_pLl5qtU

I saw them at Wembley in around 85/86 and they were phenomenal, that Jaydee is such a great sounding bass. I saw them last year in Bath, I know MK loves his Status King Bass but I find it far too tinny for my taste........I want those bottom end notes to punch a hole in my sternum but the status sadly fails to deliver that sensation.
@cwhelan20102 жыл бұрын
In fairness, it is not the instrument, I think Mark has EQed the shite out of his sound so much now that there is hardly any low gravitas in his sound now. Always sound so thinny. Still love his playing and will always be a fan. 👍
