Brilliant band. Even after all these years sound better live!

I was thinking the same thing! I've always liked Level 42, but since they don't play shows over in the states anymore, and haven't for a long time, I've never had a chance to see them perform live so my only reference to them were their hit songs from the 80's that still play on the radio over here every now and then. As fate would have it, I randomly got into Pete Ray Biggin about 5 or 6 years ago from his band called PB Underground, and from there learned that he was the current drummer for Level 42, so I started searching for some of their live shows. To my surprise, they are freaking amazing and have quickly become one of my favorite live bands and I've never even seen them in person! Mark King is a bass GOD, and everyone else in the band are incredible musicians in their own right, too. I'm so glad that I stumbled upon all of these live shows. Here's to hoping that one day, before they all retire from playing live shows, I get to finally see them in person. I'll probably have to take a trip over the pond to make it happen, though.

Underrated I don't know, but I feel what you mean. 🙂 These bands were HUGE during the 80's, yet they are still touring (except Talk Talk, rest in peace Mark Hollis) and I keep hearing them on the radio in 2022, I love it !!!

Level 42 never have been underrated, a band of long standing, full of class musicians, they are very big in Europe since the 80's. Maybe you live in Outer Mongolia and do not know them well.

If anyone ever speaks about 80s music on TV they mention Duran Duran or Spandau Ballet! There's loads of great musicians and bands in the 80s and they never get a mention! I suppose like the beatles or rolling stones in the 60s great bands around then never get props.

Biggins has elements of Gould and Husband, necessarily to play the songs like how they're supposed to sound and likely out of respect to them both, but it's also clear he finds many moments to impart his own take and add his own thing. A balance of respecting what came before but adding some of his own style. Excellent!

So nice to see a concert that hasn't been filmed on a 'phone. Last saw them live on the Guaranteed tour at Hammersmith Odeon. My appreciation of Level 42 goes back even further. 31 years' ago i was a department manager at a cash and carry who were tied in to a trading group. I was sent to assist the set up of a new party shop at Staples Corner (some of you may remember the bomb going off there). Well after the train journey and going straight to the store working all day I got a taxi to my 'hotel'. Checked in and asked where the bar was. Hey, I'd worked all day and fancied a pint. No bar and no mini bar. The room was a shoe box. It did have a power shower though which I took full advantage of. Oh and no dinner either. So I struck out into town and asked a few people where I could get a drink. Must have sounded like the local alcoholic. The response i usually got was 'What, an alcoholic drink?' Well I was in Golder's Green. I proceeded down the road and found something that said 'Karaoke Bar'. Cost me 5 quid to get in!! Walked up the stairs and heard a girl singing dreadfully out of key and a birthday celebration going on.Lots of food and i was hungry. Qued for my food and having eaten thought I'd check out this 'karaoke'. The guy said write down a song and you can sing it. So i did. Then the guy told me i should choose one out of the book. How was i to know? So i picked 'It's over' by Level 42. It was a song I knew and when I got on stage congratulated the guy for his birthday and sang the song. Got a lot of compliments afterwards. Great band good song writers and if you've seen this concert you'll appreciate how tight as a band they are. So nuts to the guy who complained about sound quality maybe you should have paid for a ticket. If I can convince my wife, I'll be seeing them in Bournemouth this year. Best wishes to all that read this

While the internet sucks 80% of the time, the other 20% is filled with things like random live concerts of amazing bands that we would have never otherwise known about or seen. I, too, am American and while I knew about Level 42 and liked some of their hit songs from back in the day, I never really considered myself a "fan" of the band. I'll probably never get to see them in person, as they don't ever play in the states anymore, I'm so glad that there are a handful of their full concerts on KZbin. Their live shows get replayed consistently on my playlist!

I've been a level 42 fan since 1983 when they released "The Sun Goes Down (Living It Up)" and have seen them play live in concert 7 times from The World Machine Concert at Hammersmith Apollo 1985 through to their farewell concert 14th October 1994 at the Royal Albert Hall, including seeing them twice on their 10th anniversary tour in 1989, then I watched Mark King on his "One Man" concert at Croydon Fairfield Halls in 1998. I have never been disappointed seeing them live and on their "Running In The Family" concert at Wembley, I went with 7 of my friends and had a great night, even they were impressed with the live performance. Unfortunately since moving away from London and now residing at the South Easy coast, I haven't had the chance to see them live. Mark King has always blown me away with his Bass slap playing technique and has a wonderful harmonization with Mike Lindup. Top quality band and well worth watching them live, those classics will soon get you cheering and dancin'.

I feel your pain Mark. I first saw them at Bradford St.Georges Hall in 1988 during the Staring At The Sun Tour. I saw Gary taking pics of St. Georges Hall outside whist I was chilling with my other Level 42 friend , but were too scared to ask for an autograph as we were only 17 years old. I think he was a keen photographer of his venues. A fantastic drummer also.

In my Los Angeles based Deep Purple Tribute Band, (which BTW was the BEST in the USA at the time), we had this Wonderfully Talented, GREAT Bass Player, I mean REALLY GREAT! He could play virtually ANYTHING. When I asked him what he thought about Mark King, he, our Bassman JR said this... ..."I hate him! He's TOO F*cking GOOD! He's not even a Bass Player! Mark King is a 'F*cking B A S S S C I E N T I S T !" 😂 Yeah. Mark King kinda IS a Bass Scientist. In many ways, King REALLY IS "UNTOUCHABLE", as another Level 42 Fan put it. Sounds like Level 42 has suffered a HUGE LOSS quite similar to the HUGE LOSS of Toto's Porcaro Brothers. I've not kept up. I just read that in another comment. I didn't know that until just now . ALWAYS sorry to hear of the losses of our GREAT, GREATER & GREATEST Musicians. I'd always sort of thought of Level 42 as the 🇺🇸TOTO of the UK 🇬🇧, BOTH are Genuine SUPER GROUPS.
