Mike Lindup's solo album is one of the most underrated albums out there!

I totally agree

I've read several accounts all similar how Mike Lindup parents met and it's a lovely story . Something like this: near the end or just after ww2 , Mike's Afro Caribbean mother a singer/piano cabaret player came to England to entertain The British and Ally troops . His father was a white British music composer, arranger and leader of a "big band" and also entertained the aforementioned . They fell in love , begot Mike and several other children , beautiful . Mike certainly has the music in his blood from both Mum and Dad .... Annie Mckean (spell ?) has a superb vocal range, remarkable how she can sing high all the war down to male tenor or even high baritone. Just brought to mind the legendary jazz singer Sarah Vaughan ... .

As far as I'm aware, Mike's mum is still very much alive today 👍 You should check out Mike's solo music. The female vocalist is Annie McCaig.

I was lucky to see them on Saturday Night Live in 1985, and I've been a Level 42 Fan since. Great music, great musicians. The songs never get old. I second the views below regarding Mike Lindup and his album 'Changes'. What talent in writing, singing, and piano. All of this group is underrated.

I hate you only because I am so f****** jealous they are amazing and it should never open for Madonna back in the '80s they're on their own plane and the funny thing is I equal them to Steely Dan

I just love "Children Say"! What a great song. I've been a BIG Level 42 fan for over 30 years! Great, great World Class Musicians!

Same here! But the best version of "Children Say" is from Wembley 86, i think. And not only because the original line-up still played together, but also because of Mark's JayDee that sounds like no other bassguitar. 1983-1986 were the best "Level-years" my opinion.
@jameswhite79979 жыл бұрын
Tramseskumbanan Live at wembley is perfection from beginning to end. Even the sound check is amazing (somehwere on youtube). After years of thinking about it the JD is nicer sound than the alembic. This gig was really great. Live now... better than the last 15 years, but...83-85 had something really special. Original line-up were uniquely brilliant. Have to agree.

I like the vocal combination of Mike and Annie McCaig. Absolutely brilliant! What a match. Great sound recording and vibes, from this concert. Probably their very best gig, or as best as the Wembley gig a few years before.

Saw these guys twice. Once in the 90's (Staring at the Sun) Manchester GMEX and in the early 00's (2002 I think) at the Royal Court. Excellent band despite personnel changes! Mark and Mike? AWESOME!

Nice, Nice, Popular Music for grownups, Pro's, Lovley. Saw Gary Husband with Holdsworth around 1990 or so, In a little place in Rochester, N.Y. I was right up front and witnessed a GREAT Band. Gary was a Bullet Train for sure. Nice to see him in this setting. Thanks for Video.

This is my favorite version of Children Say. It is so lively, and Mark's Alembic with that gorgeous cocobolo top just sounds perfect. I've never heard the Spirit is Free before. I can't believe it. They are a studio band doing it live. PERFECTION.

I saw them 4 times, the 1st back in March 1988 in Jakarta ( Running in the family album tour ) Alan Murphy was on Guitar, then in : 2001 , 2006 and 2010 all in Jakarta , but different Venues . The 1988 Concert was the best, They were at their Hight , they even play 3 new songs from their upcoming album "Starring at the sun".................

Great. A lot of the silliness and poncing about like being lifted up on kirby wires had gone and they were just playing the music. I think the death of Alan Murphy which obviously knocked them all for six sent them very much back to basics. They were fantastic when I saw them at Hammersmith in late '90
