Hello there gpreactions, how are you my friend? Mark King is an absolute master on bass. I am always amazed and in awe when I see him play. I remember reading a bass magazine once where he said that at one gig, he used his thumb so much to slap on the bass strings, after a while, he looked down and saw his thumb had split open and he was bleeding all over. Knowing the show had to go on, he just wrapped up his thumb with tape and kept playing.. Crazy.... Hope you're doing well, stay safe and greetings from the West Texan desert...

One great funky tracks with very busy bass. I remember them on Top Of The Pops. I was fortunate to see Level42 at the Point Theatre in Dublin.. It's now called the "Three Arena." Mark King said that he worked in a music store and took up the bass and learned it, whilst working there. He showed us the led lights on his bass fret board. Lastly; he did a phomomenol solo with serious blistering up-tempo funky crescendo. I loved his and the keyboard player's vocal harmonizing or singing different parts. They had an amazing slow song which I have on a blank tape; courtsy of our radio station at the time. Must look it up.

It is an evocative track for me. I let my Chinese girlfriend hear it, but I don’t think she got it. I suppose though nobody really likes looking in the mirror. I saw her culture as mystical and romantic but she didn’t. She just saw the reality. Music’s not about reality. She seems to connect with Frank Sinatra, Madonna and Midge Ure

Ha. Great choice. The lyrics always made me cringe in bemusement. Had a friend who was into Level 42 before they became more well known and it was mostly instrumental. They get a lot of stick but I think they’re great.
