Have you ever considered doing a “top 5 body armors” video? I’ve learned a lot about firearms on KZbin, but when it comes to body armor, the information available isn’t as well-rounded. What’s the price range of most body armor rigs these days? What are the pros and cons of going with cheaper or more expensive rigs for the budget-bound? Etc. love your videos man, keep up the good fight!

Because body armor is more niche. Like, what gun are you running? What gun do you think your enemy is going to use? Location? Is it for a defensive post or will you be hiking with it on for 20+ miles? Budget? Do you want it be able to run a full sized rig on it? Ect.

4:47 This is why the NIJ needs to change their standards from using specific cartridges to using a selection of FMJ and armor piercing bullet designs in common calibers (5.56, 6, 6.5, 6.8 ,7mm ect) with ideal sectional density in each one and then establish at what speed they each can penetrate a particular armor. It would be more work but would be way more useful than their current model. You would be able to look at a fancy new military or civilian cartridge and have an educated guess on what NIJ level it could pop through. For example if level 3 can stop 7.62 nato ball ammo can it stop 6.5 creedmoore ball ammo? What about 6.5 grendel ball ammo?

People keep repeating that speed defeats armor but that's only seemingly true. The plate cares about kinetic energy, and that being ½mv² certainly makes it seem like speed is the deciding factor (mass increases energy linearly, speed exponentially) but a pin flying at any real-life speed will not defeat this armor. And it's also easier to increase the bullet's speed than it's mass.
@BuffRANGE3 жыл бұрын
Depending on the armor composition other factors come into play. With Steel armor, speed typically wins out very easily. With all UHMWPE you can defeat it with bullet construction in the absence of speed. With ceramic you need bullet construction in addition to sufficient speed to defeat the ceramic layer and then to make it past the PE layer.

2 years later hopefully you’ll see this but take that m855a1 and sabot it in the accelerator 30-06 I think it’ll go straight through

Need to see some black tip shot out of a 30-378 weatherby. It would obviously zip thru…..but curious out to what distance. 300? 400? It’s a beast of a round

So now I am wondering what a super high velocity 22 centerfire like a 220 Swift or 22-250 with a 50 grain or so bullet. That would be faster yet than the soft tipped Accelerator.

This is just bonkers. There's only a few gun guys I'd trust that you're telling the truth, you're one of them. I'm buying a set.
