If you are reading this here's my story. I am a 25 year old boy from sri lanka. mouth breathing since I am 6 years old. I have a pectus excavataum since birth and according to doctors my nasal septum has been deviated after an accident when I was 6 years old. that cuased me to breathe through my mouth for more than 20 years. I was thinking that the nose is to smell and the mouth is to breathe for this long. in 2023 may I did undergo open septorhinoplasty surgery and now I am perfectly nose breathing and having a great sleep. this video is true and I had all the bad effects of mouth breathing such as low stamina, poor posture, crocked teeth, dry mouth, less mindfulness and all. now after the surgery I am experiencing all the good effects of nose breathing and truly Im feeling like a newborn. I am eagerly waiting to see my transformation day by day

When I run, I breathe through my nose and mouth at the same time for maximum intake. I used to only breathe through the nose, but my running team coach called it out and taught me to breathe through both at the same time. It leveled up my running :) I run over 60 miles a week now, and it’s all while breathing though my mouth and nose at the same time.

Once I started cleaning the fans/air condioners in my house more it made such a difference on my life. I started breathing through my nose easier, I found weightloss was easier, my anxiety levels weren't so high. 1. You breath through your diaphragm. Nose and mouth are tubes like a hose. Both get it there and the dipshit who made this video grossly exaggerates its impact on blood oxygen levels. 2. Posture affects breathing. If you a hunched over it will be harder to draw breath. Breathing through your nose has no significant impact on posture. 3. Nose breathing exercises can be used to balance mood 4. Nose breathing should be done with low exertion movements because nose hairs and mucus help filter debris and the passage way helps balance air temperatures and humidity when bringing air to your lungs. 5. Mouth breathing should be included during high exertion activities such as running. This is natural to do because your body already knows to do it. Babies know how to breath. It is instinctual. Really does not require an eight minute video with a man doodling. Not insulting you insulted the man who spent time on a eight minute video of himself drawing only to get all of the information in it wrong. AGAIN BREATHING THROUGH YOU NOSE WILL NOT IMPACT POSTURE. Breathing does NOT affect posture. Posture affects breathing. Breathing through your nose WILL NOT fix bad posture. Posture is dictated by large muscles in both your back and core. Bad posture is cause by weakening of these larger muscles by either atrophy from lack of target exercises{that does not include the act of simply breathing) or atrophy based on poor positioning of the body when in or out of motion. Again not relevant to breathing.

Great video! What really helps when training to nosebreathe is taking a gulp of water when running and keeping it in the mouth for as long as possible (e.g. when you run past an acquaintance that you have to greet 😀). This slows you down at the beginning but makes it very clear whether you are breathing correctly or not.

Add to this. Our jaw and tongue create pressure to normal supply brain with oxygen. When you breath through your mouth you notice like you need to move your neck eyes side to side to enhance blood supply by pumping through muscle. And maybe this occurs due to reticular formation that sends signals to close your mouth or do some muscle contraction due it's specific function.

a lot of this is very true, breathing through your mouth does activate your parasympathetic nervous system, as someone who have a phobia i can tell you for a fact that when the body goes into fight or flight response you will start to hyperventilate. however hyperventilating is also being not really explained that well, your lungs do need some of the CO2 and when you hyperventilate your pushing out too much of it because your body is in survival mode it will trigger a response to use your body to the max, like sprinting for your life or something similar that require a lot of air to your muscles quickly, but if that's not happening you might get trapped in a state of hyperventilating because it feels like you can't breathe and that's because you're low on CO2 so your fooling yourself into trying to breathe more than you need to. this is why you will see people who are hyperventilating breathe into a bag because they will rebreathe the CO2 down into our lungs again which might dissipate the feeling of not being able to breathe, this is also why you will hear about trying to breathe slowly or taking deep breathes to calm down. now i don't know in which end you've started to breathe with your mouth over your nose because it can be that you're just anxious and your body will automatically do that, however you might also be feeling more anxious just because you're breathing with your mouth starting a vicious cycle. but yes if you breathe with your nose you will breathe more deeply that activates the diaphragm which keeps you calm and collected and you do get enough air breathing through your nose in most activities. but i suspect there's more to this than just "breathe with your nose" because it's something we do innately, the reason we don't is more complex, it can be poor diet, poor excercise, poor nose function, poor posture etc. in some cases it's a bit like the chicken or the egg, sometimes it's because something else is not right with you that you do breathe with your mouth instead. so i would recommend walking or any low effort activity where you're moving your body and trying to integrate this nose breathing as best as you can to get used to it. and yes you can breathe too much to where you feel you don't get enough air, it's stupid like that.

I hear get everything you are saying, but when actually going through a max short burst effort (sprint) I can't see this being applicable, since it takes much more time to take one breath through the nose than through the mouth (try it rn you'll see) so in that case I do not know if the higher concentration of oxygen absorbed through the nose is enough to equal or be better than less effective but much faster breaths. I don't know though, just a thought. However for everyday breathing and long efforts it is non negotiable, it's better.

You know what he did? He drew breath through his mouth when he ran. His mouth AND nose because that is what any rational animal would. If you believe that breathing exclusively through your nose somehow increases performance when exercising, then I would recommend the usage of a helmet while preforming this activity. In fact, I believe extending the usage of a helmet to all aspects of your life is imperative as such a brain dead take suggest serious retardation as to present imminent risk of danger to you in the immediate future.

1:04 I would like to disagree here. Merely breathing through your nose does NOT mean it will go deeper to your lungs is it. You need to utilize your diaphragm as well, so that air can pass really deep into your body. That is truly awesome, eyy??

When i was younger (i still do but not as "severe"), i had rhinitis, wich to those that don't know, makes so that dust or pollen that enters your nose make you sneeze, and other things similar to the flu. I was in a case where the entire season of spring and midway though summer i couldn't breath normally, only though my mouth. When i was 12, i "fixed" it, and i started breathing though my nose again. I was a chubby mouth guy, but when i changed my face became more "normal". The things a simple thing such as breathing does, man!

Started circular breathing after making explosive runs while playing soccer. I started to recover faster from being out of breath and oftentimes ended up running double the distance I used to in games. I always thought of it as the nose being the input and the mouth being the output.

I'm really curious about how It'll help my stamina in sports like football.

ANY credible sources? Convincing as the arguments may be, until this is backed with real science - it's just words. (FYI several of these have no scientific evidence backing them up) I'm always incredibly skeptical of channels that don't cite their sources. For the ones that do, you quickly learn these 'facts' are found on personal blogs with no relevant experience or training, the papers are done by inexperienced students on a handful of people and the results are inconclusive at best, or the study is funded by a company with an interest in a particular outcome. Another one many self-help gurus are guilty of is not properly detailing the scale of these 'benefits' - Yep, your bodies efficiency DOES increase when nasal breathing...by 1.2%, la-dee-fuckin-da. But if you don't mention the stats, everyone assumes a substantially higher number and you're the hero that told them. Still not sold? There is NO SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE to prove that mewing is an effective technique for reshaping the face. Literally, a 5 second google search. And yet there is the sketch at 6:20 If any of this was true or as relevant as he claims - then others would be talking more about it. Sources, or this is BS.

I know of 3 types of breathing while doing cardio. Once in trough the nose out trough mouth when in lower zone cardio, usually my 5k pace. Twice in trough the nose once out trough mouth in middle zone, maybe 800m. Max air intake trough mouth mostly but also nose in highest cardio/sprinting up to 400m ending up far above max heart rate for my age. Some elite athletes sprint 100m in just one breath.

I hear what you're getting at. I've seen lots of people who have tried this stuff and exasperated their issues. This stuff sounds easy, we take much for granted but we're basically driving vehicles around that we've never had proper training to operate. There's not even a user's manual. There can be so many different causational factors for what appears to be the same issue. Our bodies have very limited ways of expressing distress so there is much overlap. Probably why so many things are so hard to cure... too many different things being labelled the same because of similar symptoms and no accurate means of testing or defining. As for our experts, I've witnessed cardiologists being ignorant of not only the fact the medication they prescribed causes specific critical nutrient imbalance but also had no idea of our main dietary source of that same thing. Or worse, our head of health couldn't even define what a woman was, or a man.

You won't be able to just nose breathe after around 80 percent max HR, period :p For the efforts over LT and at VO2 max mouth breathing is the only thing capable of providing adequate ventilation. Also, good luck with nasal breathing while swimming anything other than backstroke :p. However, for low intensity effort and at rest nose breathing is absolutely preferable. And, in this case, I agree that it provides a lot of benefits you outlined.

When I run i use all the oxygen I can get and use both nose and mouth to breathe and if rush too much my body even start yaning to get more oxygen. And we also breathe through the nose by default, I don't really see how it's special to focus on it specifically

Try this brother, with your fingers pinch your nostrils shut so you couldn’t breathe through there even if you tried. Then exhale slowly or try to out of your nose, there’ll be pressure building up, keep going and then release your nose. Before you begin trying to pop your ears, try breathing through your nose. I’ve found this way helped with opening the sinus cavities. Repeat as often as needed

Bro they literally teach this in school. You breathe in through the nose and out of either mouth or nose. The nose filters the incoming air and the output doesn't matter. If you really need air then you just breathe in and out of your mouth because you need that extra air volume.
