Love the video! This is just what I needed! I followed a new recipe for a beetroot kraut and it ended up going mouldy, so tried it again, and I think I got so worried about it going mouldy again I took it out after a week and opened it up, so had to refrigerate it. So probably not the best ferment, but my plan is to try again once this one is eaten! :)
@Homestead_OnTheRock_2 ай бұрын
I get some mouldy batches too, it can happen! Are you using an airlock or just using a regular jar lid? :)
@BookloverFantasy922 ай бұрын
@@Homestead_OnTheRock_ an airlock lid. :) I may have opened it part way through and didn’t press it down enough during the process. I’ll work on it when I’m nearly finished this jar. :)

Growing up my parents always ate sauerkraut and said how healthy it was, but I never really cared and thought it was a really strange food. But now I know the benefits of it and that you can make different flavours I think I will give it a go, especially to replace sauce, my family is obsessed with bbq sauce, so maybe I could find a recipe that imitates the flavour ? Thanks for the awesome video and information ❤
@Homestead_OnTheRock_2 ай бұрын
Hey Danielle, Funny how our parents are always right, but we only see it when we are older lol! Yes its a great substitution for sauce. I have seen people make 'chiplote' flavoured ones ( there is actually a recipe using chipotle in that recipe book I showed) but not sure how easy it is to sauce real chipotle pieces..

@@Homestead_OnTheRock_ Sorry for the late reply. Yes it’s been a great journey so far. I bought a tablespoon on marketplace, the lady selling hers is from raw milk and the grains she gave were refrigerated, so only tricky stage I found was waiting for the grains to acclimate. But now two weeks in, I have gone from a cup being ready in 24hrs down to 12. It’s lovely and creamy and has a zest to it. I’m already feeling the benefits with being more regular and blaring has decreased 🙌. My teenagers are adding it to their smoothies, it’s bit thicker than regular milk. It’s perfect, I highly recommend it ❤😊
