Karl, having seen you and Rob Cosman use one of these for your making dovetail videos I’d assumed these must be the usually highly expensive bit of kit - so how great to both find this video now - and find that the knife is selling at £8.95. Thank you again for some great teaching moments.
@karlpopewoodcraft8 ай бұрын
Hi Matthew yes is a simple stanley craft knife, it's long enough to get in between most dovetails, has a bevelled edge which comes in handy for getting very close and is very sharp ask my finger lol 😆

Hi Karl, always good to see you on here. I have the same knife, had it for a couple of years but have never used it. After watching this vid I will take it out of the drawer and keep it in my apron pocket, it makes sense. All the best, regards, Fred
@karlpopewoodcraft9 ай бұрын
Thanks Fred 😀 hope your well mate. 😊 it's a proper little handy knife.

Totally agree with regards a marking knife, likewise my high school woodwork teacher Mr Greenacre in 1975 taught me the little trick with using a chisel to remove the timber to make a kerf for the saw to cut across a shoulder. However I don't drive a chisel down square into the line as this would slightly move the line over, due to there being timber on the waste side which would cause resistance against the bevel.
@karlpopewoodcraft9 ай бұрын
Thank you Gary, yes totally agree I only tap very gently to add a little depth for the wedge to be removed and only on outside joints where this wouldn't open up the joint. Hope that makes sense 🙂

Nice video Karl I've been using the exact same knife for a few years now and I totally agree with you also for me its a money well spent purchase as they are not to expensive and once used it soon becomes a default go to in your tool kit so more than earns its keep

Cheers Andy, ye £8 I believe on Amazon so definitely worth it.

Great video Karl. I’m really looking forward to your next one. I love the look of your chisel, is it a Narex Richter? Ken Myerscough, Southport UK

Some useful tips, and definitely could do with purchasing one of these. Do you have an affiliate link to buy the knife Karl?
@karlpopewoodcraft9 ай бұрын
Hi Damian I've popped the links below, the knife isn't an affiliate unfortunately 😕 I've still put it there though because its a great little knife.

@@karlpopewoodcraft shit dude not good yea poor thing doesn't sound fun. Hope you all recover quickly. Also on separate note got big commission potentially coming next week. Could do with your advice been asked to do 4 planters 600 high 400 wide 3 at 1500 long and 1 at 2000 long would u recommend decking boards 2x4s or a 2x2 frame then clad style. Also they want it on castor's 👍🏴
@karlpopewoodcraft9 ай бұрын
I'd use decking boards and do them like this, kzbin.info/www/bejne/jmesm2h3pNWenKssi=6jaljyHaIDf5_ZO3 It's the second planter, then no need for a framework, I've seen them at my local pub done this way and there spot on. Pop a liner in and job done.
