My best advice for anyone thinking about playing the game ; you are able to try the game several weeks a year for free, you will also have a better experience if someone can teach you how to play, and if you don't know anyone this is a very nice community and it should be easy to find someone willing to teach you the basics. (trying to learn alone might be overwhelming even with the tutorial)

Doing that type of activity again with the new UI would be hands down the best thing CIG could do for the immediate future in the Persistent Universe, the addition of maps and navigational aids for the on foot player experience is going to be a game changer for organizing and coordinating large scale player activities that Citizen_Kate usually features in her YT. I was hoping LevelCapGaming would hit on that point a bit harder in the vide above. There are no loading screens...like at all, zero. Nothing is faked in Star Citizen, even the elevators move through physical space. Even quantum drive in your ship is real, you physically move through space at quantum drive speeds. Then there's an absolute TON of little details in the game that nobody talks about. Different gravities, weather effects, tons of sensor gameplay, how even the weight of your ship changes when you step onto the ship or add/remove cargo or any other items, which affects the performance of tractor beams manipulating your ship. Tons of little stuff like that which is not apparent when you play...even months later or years later you'll be learning more and more about how deep some of the details go. The major bugs in the game is the biggest reason more people haevn't joined in and is my major complain. Slowly getting there and it's exciting, but emphasis on the slow part.

@@sneakymitchell7802 Yes, I have played the game as my main game since 2015 and it absolutely runs on a modern (though good) rig. It runs fine on a quad-core with 32GB RAM, an RTX3080-level graphics card and (importantly!) an SSD. You often get more than 60 FPS, but there is no level of hardware that gives 60 FPS consistently. Once the shaders are compiled and cached, my rig consistently gives me 30 FPS or more.

My though about SC is regardless the mistakes they made in the past, this is why we're lucky to have a company like CIG (and Larian), they take their time to shape the game in a way that they really want, with much dept and details, without some company forcing them to realease the game incomplete or downscaling their vision of what the game should have been
@Cmoth040

I've been in it since the beginning, before they shifted to their website. The projected release dates kept getting dusted because of feature creep. In this case however, Chris Roberts stated in his very first promotional video for Squadron 42 that, if they were able to make enough money, they'd continue to grow the project and branch out. The intention was to eventually create the persistent universe. That other projects, far less in scope, have taken as long as they have has helped to put the length of this project into perspective. That Starfield took as long as it did to basically give us Fallout in Space with so many loading screens it's practically half of your activity also provided some clarity. Ironically, the younger backers, impatient for release and the skeptical, were promoting the kind of rapid release thought process that killed the video game industry in the 90s, which was the primary reason Chris Roberts got out of the industry for a time and avoided distributor financing for this project. This project isn't just making games, it's creating new technologies and expanding the potential for the rest of the industry.

While Star Citizen is infinitely more impressive on a technical level than Starfield, even in it's alpha stages, there's no reason to be upset about Starfield. They didn't promise anything they didn't deliver, like so many overhyped, aggressively marketed, and misleading disappointments in the past, and if you expected something more, that's on you. It's just a game with a much much smaller scope and shorter development time than Star Citizen, and there's nothing inherently wrong with that. Not everyone is willing to take a gamble on such a long term project like this. The tech involved in Star Citizen has literally never been done before is all being made just for this game. Being upset about the bugs is one thing, but if you're a Bethesda fan, that should have been no surprise either. To me, a lot of this Starfield hate is just self-inflicted because of people overhyping it. And for once, the people making it tried their best to be honest about it. There are so many games where I would totally agree with the response to, and I don't even like Starfield really. Tried it on Gamepass, wasn't for me, no harm no foul.

I think it is important to keep in mind that the 2014 release date for Star Citizen was for a much much much smaller game. Back then it was planned as a visual upgrade to Privateer sort of. With tiny landingzones (see first concepts with a landingpad and a few shops in the same area), loadingscreens between these landing zones and space and the generic mini missions similar to what you had in Privateer. And Squadron 42 would have been also just a Wing Commander with nice graphics where you are limited to your carrier ship and fly missions in space. For that a twentyfour million dollar budget and two years seemed to be realistic. But the scope of the game quickly broke through that even during the original crowdfunding campaign with the achieved streatchgoals. So back then it was clear that 2014 release would be almost impossible (at least for me).

Star Citizen to me is an incredible concept that’s held back by features that simply do not work well with the current state of the game. Having players lose their entire inventory in a game where your ship can randomly explode or kick you out into space due to bugs not only doesn’t work, but just causes players to quit. Same thing with having to wait for ship insurance. The punishment for death in this game are way too high when it can randomly decide to kill you. Another thing is the interaction menu. It just does not work. There’s no way to know wether something can be interacted with without walking up and trying it first, and sometimes it just actually doesn’t work at all, like with certain ship chairs.

I think people still misunderstand the most expensive project ever, because we dont know, maybe it is, it is definetly one of them, but we dont know, the thing is no company is actually showing us ALL the expenses a game costs them. If take two says gta 5 took x million, they only talk about the number they wrote in their financials as expenses for the game, but stuff like upgrading the dev pcs every couple years, the studio, their motion capture studio, rent of the office etc are all "office expenses" even though you need to have all this to make the game and technically count towards it too. The reason we can say SC took so much to develop so far is because they started from zero and everything they do is towards the game. The operating expenses by take two were 3,4 billion this fiscal year alone (revenue same year is 5,3 billion). Of course it is one of the most expensive games made, but I wouldnt say its the most expensive, because we will never know because of this divide of how they show expenses at other game companies

I still love watching all the videos about how SC is a "scam"... like, did they even play it for more than the tutorial? i've been playing for awhile now and i have yet to go everywhere, see everything, or even do half of what is possible in the game in it's current build. that's months and months of gameplay, and yet i never get tired of it, i never feel like the amount invested was not worth it. i think a lot of the "scam" videos are just worthless attempts to shame CIG for not caving to the usual industry standard of shoving a game onto the market without it being finishes. the fact that it already has more playability than the majority of AAA titles and can be less buggy than the majority of those same titles is something you'd only know if you'd spent as much time as most of the people who love the game have. i truly think that the reason SC hasn't progressed much further than it has in recent years is solely because they shifted focus to S42, putting the majority of their devs on it to use it as the test platform for a lot of what they want in SC, so that if they can complete it and it's stable, then they can port a shitload of resources directly into SC and then have the dev team start shifting back so that their focus is fully on finishing out Star Citizen

A good and informative contribution. I've been playing since 2020. Finally got a capable machine for it. Been following it longer than that. Love it. I love that asmongold clip cause anybody who has ever touched star citizen knows that it truly is completely seamless. The entire game is. Once you load in, you’re there. That’s the only loading screen. Doesn’t matter if you’re going across the star system or going from a space station refinery to the hangar or from the hangar to the planet’s surface or going from a random place on the surface of Microtech to the middle of New Babbage; you may get low framerates entering new areas but you’ll never find yourself floating like you often do in destiny and you’ll definitely never have a loading screen. Until you inevitably die or get kicked to the main menu because of some bug that isn’t your fault.

Hello ive been a massive fan of starcitizen since 2015. And i would just like to confirm your statement of CIG is bringing assets from squadron 42 to star citizen. Just yesterday the EPTU experimental test universe got a patch for the dynamic event Siege of Orison. And i can confirm the AI from Squadron 42 has been ported over. We did not see a single AI stairing at a wall or T posing. and the Pirate AI was actually running around utilizing cover. they are true to their word and its only going to get better from here P:S for anyone curious about going into the EPTU for those who already own the game u can become a star citizen subscriber on their website and get access and test all the new stuff they have added

Can anyone explain the insurance system? The packages mention they come with 6 months of ship insurance which is confusing. It's a digital asset, are they going to charge me real money to recover a lost ship in the future? It's the only thing really keeping me from giving the game a shot.
@cgesolo
@cgesolo Жыл бұрын
Once Star Citizen is released, players will use the insurance that comes with their ship and then afterwards be able purchase insurance policies in-game. This ensures that your ship will be replaced should it be destroyed or stolen. Currently, on the Alpha and Public Test Universe (PTU), all ships and vehicles are given a basic insurance plan that does not expire. At this time, it requires no upkeep or fee for players to acquire basic ship loss coverage. There is currently an in-game fee to expedite a replacement. There is more info in the faq on their site.

Its been a long standing discussion among us for years. We, and I don't believe CIG knows exactly how this going to play out. But the general idea is how cgeslo explained it. Insurance won't matter until the game gets "released". Starting on the 17th there will be a free fly event (free to play) for about 2 weeks. During which time all ships will be free to fly for a limited time. During this time almost all the ships will go on sale usually with 10 years insurance. Including starter packages. Its a good time to buy in then. There is a way to acquire ships with LTI (lifetime insurance), but the process is a bit complicated to explain here. Happy to answer more questions. But some may be to complicated without discussing it in Discord to give clearer answers. Also happy to be a guide for you during the free fly.

I really want to believe SC will release someday with even just half of the features promised in a functional state, since I am an avid space sim genre degenerate. I bought into the game with one of the starter packs in 2019. My personal experience with it was that it was pretty much unplayable when judged on the merits of an actual game. However, every year I hear the same repeats of "it's gonna be a great year" and "we're going to have a lot to look forward to". More than ten years down the line I still don't see a product that looks even remotely close to being classifiable as a released game, while in court it gets referred to as a "live games service" whereas in the public-facing marketing it's an "early alpha" and to start playing you buy in with a "pledge". There is undoubtedly a big dichotomy in how the game is represented towards different parties. I think it's disingenuous towards potential newcomers to list all technically available activities in the game without also being open about things like - consistent player progress wipes between updates - stability of the gameplay experience - how feasible it is to engage in certain activities without having your progress ruined by some kind of session-ending bug - content becoming unavailable I also don't think it's fair for the community behind this game to tout it as a fully playable game, but to argue that it's an alpha when people bring up technical issues - it can't be both at the same time. As someone who works in an adjacent industry, I was approached for a job position by someone from RSI, prompting me to investigate the conditions there a bit on account of my enthusiasm for space sims and game development. First- and second-hand accounts of people having worked for RSI deterred me from responding to their job offer. While I think Chris Roberts' enthusiasm for his project is genuine, I do also feel as though some of the practices involved in procuring funding for the project encroach on the questionable. Not sure if this is still a thing, but in around 2019 it was common for Chris to have dinner parties with people known to invest obscene amounts of money in the promise his vision provides through pledges, touting potential new additions in order to garner more funding. I can't judge other people for how they choose to spend their money, but in the same vein that I find the practice of "milking whales" in a F2P product deplorable, I also don't think it's okay to exploit susceptible people in this similar way either.

It isn’t just that the “world” is physicalized without tricks or loading screens, it’s that each dimension of the game; simulator-like flying, first person system making the experience with the ships very personal, that layer into the game, truly framing and expressing what they’re attempting to do as an mmo. It’s likely to draw gamers from every genre, ultimately. Even rts players will become addicted conducting space battles and ground invasions spontaneously and in real time.

I think the idea of having all players in the same universe instance and there are no smokes and mirrors, opens up a lot of possibilities for gamers and the developers when it comes to contents creation and how we play the game. For me, that's the game changer here, which would be difficult if not impossible for any other game to do because of how segmented games worlds are created. To give you a simple idea, I've seen my two brothers play Star Citizen, one of them was on one planet whiles the other was on another, they did a video feed to each other in game and it was live, so much so that you could see what was going on behind them with both players, that might sound like a simple thing but to achieve that is very difficult unless both gamers are in the same map zone. That's just a simple thing that it opens up, there's so many more that could open up and I find that to be really exciting about the possibilities and it's just a shame that most gamers don't understand why that is so special, mainly because gamers are seeing the game in the usual concept of other games where areas are grouped into level zones, even if tricks are used to make it seem like a bigger zone. I really do feel that more videos on Star Citizen are needed that go into depth in explaining the under the hood tech on what's going on and why it's so difficult to do, why other games don't do it and what it could open up, because clearly a lot of gamers don't understand any of this, heck even many of us that have followed the game and understand tech a lot could do with more laymen terms in understanding some of this stuff, and I feel CIG should be doing better on that PR.

Rumors that SQ 42 will ship to consoles? That is something I haven't heard anyone mention in many years. I remember when Chris was doing "10 for the Chairman" and someone commented that they saw a Playstation console in the background and he replied saying that he was looking into bringing the game to consoles. He then said said something along the lines of "I don't want to abide by some other companies rules"

I started pc gaming with Wing commander and freelancer and Privateer. I've ALWAYS had faith this game would be the greatest. I tell the haters that complain about how long it's taking, comparing it other games and etc, that those games ALL are missing features that other games have and vice versa. Star Citizen is meant to be the fans that has EVERY THING! So with that, congress a very long road of development. I'm still playing it after years and will take breaks here and there. Many other games come and go, many don't hold my attention for long. Because they just don't hold a candle to SC's potential.

The christmas presents around the space stations was a FAST way to make money without any risk/danger, WHEN you could actually pick them up. I'm hoping I can grab some when it finishes installing. I remember them selling for 1k each, and you could quickly do a loop around the station and get 20 or so of them, making it MUCH faster than doing actual missions (it might have been a one off thing, like I said I didn't play much, but I did get a ship or two just from grabbing presents around the station I was at)

Separate post for unrelated topic. I want to confirm Chris Roberts' initial vision for it going back to the early 90s. There was an interview I read. I've never been able to find it online since, but there are others who remember it. It was mostly Richard Garriot actually, talking about how 'in the future' players could dial in and connect to servers and play the same game at the same time interacting with each other, hundreds, even thousands of players at the same time. You could make a version of Ultima that could be played online.... (This was years before Ultima Online). But then CR had a moment in the interview where he described a similar idea but in space where you could have different ships be a trader a pirate or a bounty hunter.... I believe this pushes the basic idea back to at least 1992 or so. And really wish I could find that old interview if anyone knows of a source. 30+ year old memories, even corroborated by old friends and others that remember it is not the best source. But it fits the timeline. Wing Commander, privateer,.speculation on what becomes MMOs.... The basic idea for Star Citizen was born.
