Episode 1 was so disappointing to me, just layers of bad decision-making and awful pacing, made me really doubt A1 despite the production values. But with episode 4 I feel like they're finally really making up for that. I'm finally excited about this series again.

@@averymacneil3822 Technically it's more than serviceable. It's just minor gripes, but minor gripes so obvious from a directing stance they add up to major gripes. There was no need for Jeju Island in the first episode, there was no need for any scene with Cha Hae-In in the first episode. Anyone with any sense of directing would have know that there was only one correct answer on what point to end the first episode, and that would have been on the smile.

Like, episode 1 was such a pathetic blunder from the studio I'd have been ashamed even being remotely related to the studio. Don't get me wrong, it was still an above average anime episode, it's just that it shouldn't have been merely that. Episode one should by any measure have sent the anime community and the Solo Leveling fandom into a collective frenzy. The best we got was "Hey this seems kinda good-ish?"

11:08 Jin-Woo: "I've ... gotta get stronger!" This hasn't been explained for the Anime-only crowd, so I'll put in a spoiler warning. Jin-Woo's passive ability, [Willpower], which he picked up in the Penalty Quest, has activated due to his HP dropping below 30%. This increases his stats by a percentage equal to the HP he's lost, so he's getting at least a 70% boost to his stats, which bumps his STR from 63 (due to the title, [Wolf Assassin]) to 94! In addition, his other stats are boosted from 33 to 50, which explains all the bouncing around he's about to do.

This is my fav snake fight ep so far, second being Wrong Way to Use Healing Magic. Woo freaking squeezed that bish to death lol. Oh and his eyes glowing when he said he needs to get stronger. So badass. That ending was badass. I love that he thought that the group of hunters probably wore it down when they did zero damage lol.

as a manhwa reader i completely agree. before i was of the opinion that i probably would have stopped if i was anime only, but this episode is just absolutely amazing. A1 went all out with the animation on the blue venom rasaka fight. if they keep going at this rate, this is gonna go from just an ok hype train anime to the greatest show of the year

the posion can permantly incress his def by reducing damage he takes by 20% but the side effect is that it lowers his str by 35% total normally. level ups do the body good ;)

I love watching your reactions. I've never really paid much attention to reaction videos but when solo leveling came out I just couldn't wait to get more episodes so I started watching reactions to hold me over for a week. lol I've been waiting years for it like you. From the moment there was a hint it might get an anime I was hype. This series is so good and I'm happy and appreciative that they have done such a pheromonal job of making the anime as epic as the manhwa. I remember recommending the manhwa to manga/anime fans I know and they never got into it. But now that they are watching the anime they are like "OMG THIS IS SO GOOD!" I'm just over here like: "Yep. Tried to tell you that." Now that the anime is out, I'm happy I can share my excitement over the awesomeness of Jinwoo and this manhwa.

The color of the name in games is usually just based on their level compared to yours, which means it doesn’t necessarily indicate how hard the fight will be. So like a lvl 15 enemy may have a red name while a lvl 13 boss might have an orange name in a game, but the boss is obviously going to be much harder to fight simply because bosses have higher stats.

Jin-Woo hasn't increased his Agility stat, so I'm guessing he came by this agility naturally, along with this keen dodge reflex, the strength just makes it more impressive. 8:09 "Oh! He's level 15! D___!" Not only has he gained 14 points to his stats from leveling up, the title [Wolf Assassin] gives him +40% to all his stats while fighting animal-type enemies. That jumps his STR up to 63!

Jinwoo said the monster was weakened before he got there, and considering we never saw him get anything from the fight (at least in this episode), does that mean he did not help enough, even though he broke the monster's defenses?

He gained EXP from killing it. He basically OHKO the golem but he assumed it's HP was already less than half since he OHKOed it. IIRC he has a passive ability that increases the damage he deals due to his STR reaching a certain threshold. This is different to the Title he got which gives him the passive skill that lets him deal 40% more damage to Beast Type Monsters.

A1 can't keep up with the voice actor. The animation is lacking on His facial expresion. It's kinda flat compared to the emotion in the actors voice. Specially when his delivering the lines. You can clearly see the mouth is failing to catch up.
