I've been afraid that the SAB Foil 1350 wouldn't be fast enough to keep up with the Ocean Swell, but it is (at a least in light wind) and I've absolutely loved it! Still, I'm used to the Wingspan and it might be really weird for someone who isn't used to this kind of span... It's possible to turn it still and the glide and stall speed is simply amazing! One thing I would highly recommend to do, however, is going for a longer fuse as the 663 made it really really hard for me to control the pitch once going faster.
Equipment Used:
Vampire 7,6 by 19 Board
Axis S Series 75 cm 19 mm Mast
Pure SX Doodad Adapter
Sab Foil Leviathan 1350, Flat 325 Stab, 663 Fuse

Great footage man! You're already so good at it! This also smells like a nice side-income for Malte and his crew: pull a group of guys out 1-2km and let them downwind back in 🤔. Question: Don't these huge foils top out at speeds that are slower than the bumps?
@leo-stief
@leo-stief Жыл бұрын
Thanks! :) I was afraid that the 1350 wouldn't be fast enough to keep up with the "ocean" Ostsee Swell, but it is. At a least in Light wind! I had the feeling that I could stay in bumps as long as I wanted, but still had to turn out the back from time to time to get in the bump behind it. But cthe Foils I've used for pumping before didn't allow that at all, as the cretaed too much drag to stay where the energy was, so the waves just overtook me one after another, where the 1350 got faster and then stayed in a wave. Still I think its very different to riding truly faster Foils, as I'm not overtaking bumps and just staying in one. Hope that makes sense. So in summary in Ostsee light wind the foil tops out faster than the bump travels, therefore making it possible to stay in one wave :D

Awesome videos! I admire the color scheme in your beautiful DW setup! I also have the 1350 Leviathan for wing foiling in light conditions and didn’t know there was an adapter for the AXIS Mast. Thank you! I did not want to buy a $$$ shorter SAB Mast. My Current setup: Freedom Dagger 7’5’ 110L 1350 Leviathan SAB 83 Mast (not the new super stiff one) Stab 380 Fuse 753 I’m 86.2 Kg. wing foiling in the summer with very light (sub 10-6 knots) conditions. Winter, Spring and Fall much better wind. June-August want to work on pump foiling and get the SAB 1550 or even the 1750 for flat water starts. Would I need a different a shorter Fuse like your 663? I’m worried about 753 breaking. Gong requires a titanium fuse with their HA wings and I’ve seen videos of fuselages breaking with the HA front wings. Also any thoughts on your Flat 325 Stab vs the 380?

Hey man, Yeah the adapters are awesome now a days! No more need to buy a new mast for everything :D Freedom Dagger 7,5 sounds awesome, i really like the ffb gear. Were the same weigth! I would recommend to stay with the 753 for the beginning, specially as you're already used to it. the shorter fuse makes pumping way more efficient, however, it also leads to the foil feeling less in control and more twitchy, requiring more finesse in steering and potencially more frustration. For downwinding, out of the sab quiver, I would now definitely choose the 753, as the 663 is too instable for me on the pitch axis when reaching a certain speed. Only for pumping or flatwater paddling I would choose the 663 every day tho. The 1550 and 1750 make the paddle up easier for sure! Still, I think the technique used to paddle up the 1550 and 1750 is not really transferable to the sea/ ocean, as every wind swell is way faster than the 1550 or 1750 can go so it's almost impossible to ride them downwind, or to paddle them up as the bump will overtake rigth away... I still really enjoy the 1350, but don't really use it for downwind anymore as I can now paddle up faster foils consistently, making it easier to stay with the bumps instead of always falling behind and having to pump. I think for a downwind oriented paddle up training the 1350 is already almost too big so i would only advice on going bigger if the aim is to master the flatwater paddle up faster :) Best from berlin, where i will chase some boat waves later today on the axis 1201 :D

Thanks! I haven't but I would like to, especially to see if a bigger stab on the short fuse would make the Pitch stability noticeably more stable and therefore less of a problem. But i really like the flat 325, its agile fast and small af so basically everything I want in a stab :D

@leo-stief
@leo-stief 9 ай бұрын

Leo, i wanred to ask. Do you have any experience with Gong Sirus. 156 sirrus vs 1550 leviathan, or 135 sirus vs 1350 leviathan? I want to buy a set for flat water pumping and use it for lightwind and i was wondering if there is a big difference between those 2. I already have few foils from Gong, but I see most people on Leviathan. I like gong because its much less $. However is Leviathan would be much better, id switch. Its just so hard since i have no way to test either one. Any input is appreciated. Thank you.
@leo-stief
@leo-stief 5 ай бұрын
Hey Martin, I have unfortunately not tested the Sirus too much yet. But what I can already tell you from the few goes I had in it is that when comparing a similar span Leviathan to the Sirus, the Sirus will be much faster but also much higher in stall speed. The Curve H is a closer replica to the Leviathan from how it feels and lifts, and i think the Curve H xxl/xxxl is superior for pumping to the Sirus. Size wise: If you're not above 95 kg or so I would suggest you to go for 135 instead of 155. Yes, it'll take a bit more power to start it, but the 135 is still comparably way to easy to start, yet it's definitely more turnable than the 155 :D Comparing Leviathan to the Curve / Sirus: I think that the Leviathan ist way better thann the Curve H, Its a bit more efficient, therefore the curve H turns better and the Sirus goes a bit faster. I think the most efficient pump will be generated with the leviathan when set up right but i think my choice for the next summer of pumping will be the curve H in xxlh. Hope this helps :) And for winging I would suggest the 135 range over the 155 range too, but some might also feel benefits from a bigger foil :)

Hi can you also flat water start the 1350? Is there big difference to axis PNG1150 and Sab 1550? I am looking for next wing after PNG1150 but can’t chose if 1350 or 1550. Thanks
@leo-stief
@leo-stief 10 ай бұрын
Hello, yes! The Leviathans are way easier to Flatwater start than the PNG's. Way more Lift at low speed plus they don't seem to stall at all. The PNG's stall often, making the flatwater popup harder as you need more speed. The 1350 has almost too much lift a think, so going for the 1550 would make no sense for me, If I would buy it again I would maybe consider the L1150 as a more playful 1350 alternative. Still, I love the 1350 as it's super easy to get up on and it glides very well making it an amazing flatwater Foil (Still my favorite! and I can Flatwater start it without a paddle) So yes there's a huge difference between L1550 and PNG1150 ; ) One more thing to consider: I would rather go down winding on the PNG 1150 than on a huge Leviathan, as the ridiculous stallspeed comes with a limited topend and when going down winding the close-to-zero stallspeed isn't worth so much as the waves simply move faster...

Great video, thanks for sharing. Quick question regarding the board: I can see you're using a Vampire 7,6 x 19 which has 100 liters. How much do you weight? I'm 95kg, still need to by a board by I'm leaning towards a 110lts.
@leo-stief
@leo-stief Жыл бұрын
Hey Marcos, I'm 85 kg, therefore the board has 15 liters more than I way wich i think is the minimum of surplus it should have. In the Flatwater I'm pretty fine with balancing it out but in the waves i would say my biggest struggle is still to stay on the board. Therefore I think a bigger volume board will make it easier to make some progress, specially in the start! So I think 110 should be fine for you. Still I would rather go bigger than smaller. Maybe with more experience one will prefer it small tho...
