What I am about to mention isn't cheese, unless you think it is fair to spend 10 hours farming for a 30 minutes of pvp with one of these builds. (and this is a good ratio, if you like using giant arrows for pvp you are potentially looking at 20+ hours of farming PER INVASION) For anyone who actually wants to play with lots of resources and are on console, just find a friend and repeatedly backup and restore saves to dupe resources. You should both be at 999 in everything after only a little while. Pc players, just mod and play offline then uninstall the mod and go online after you get the items.

The problem with them is that the ingredients for most of the perfumes are really hard to come by and often really useful for other key items, too. As a result, people are afraid to use them much. I feel this is also a great place to mention that you can store perfumes and pots at sites of grace. Stored ones won't use up cracked pots or bottles, but they will restock when you rest. So if you only ever use Spark Armoatic, you can craft and store a ton and not have to remember to craft more. (Storing a ton can be tedious though, since you have to do it in batches of at most 10.)

IMO the uplifting aromatic is the best one because its go to use of arteria leaves. Exalted flesh and blood boil are okay but getting a defensive buff, an offensive buff, and it be on everyone in range is HUGE. This is especially true if you're helping friends get through tough bosses. I understand the arteria leaves are pretty limited but they are a reward for difficult exploration locations. You might as well use them to make some bosses/phases a little easier.

Then I pop a ironjar aromatic and bloodhound step at my opponents. I can either grab them or blast them, and the ironjar aromatic also greatly reduces my madness buildup, so I can keep going forever. I then wear heavy armor with vyke's spear as a secondary melee weapon and im basically unstoppable. the only annoying part is the living jar shard requirement for the aromatics.

Perfumer bolts are extremely rare and can only be farmed. Even with 99 arcane they are super rare and because of this I can only recommend using Exploding bolts instead since they according to the wiki, do only 14 less damage than the counter part. Also exploding bolts can be bought and to make it better, it does not need perfumer talisman to do good damage. But I think perfumes still are way too annoying to farm for the offensive sides of perfumes and I rather prefer using arrows/bolts. Since they can be bought and can kill any enemy in the game with just serpent arrows, bleed arrows and burred bolts. Though defensively or to buff I think perfumes are awesome and that I will agree is worth using. All in all... good video : )

I really hope the soulsborne team keep these fun items in future installments. Ik dark souls has the reputation of “hard game get good” but I love how elden ring lets that style thrive while also letting people solve problems in a more creative way with a massive set of tools to gain advantages. There are so many people I have tried getting to play souls who refuse but then play elden ring and love it. I do think it is dependent though because I would love if they alternate between these traditional souls and more sekiro likes

It only got that reputation from bad players. From The very beginning Souls games have been forgiving to a variety of playstyles. I generally do medium armor, massive greatsword, and the biggest shield I can lift, while my friend used exclusively two handed hammers and no clothes. My brother used elemental magics, and our other friend used lightning magic and dual wield in light armor. Every single build was different and fun, and everyone always had a good time.

The issue for me at least with utilizing every odd tool in the game, like the Perfumer's Talisman mid battle, I honestly think most people aren't fast enough (especially if playing with a controller) to go into their inventory, find the correct talisman, put it on JUST for a split second to use an item, then find the battle related ones they want on for the fight...all while dodging, dipping, stabbing, blocking. If the game had a macro system where you could set up armor/weapon sets that change with a single button push (actually surprised it doesn't) like many games, I'd utilize more of these items. But most the time, you just rock whatever your best battle attire is at all times, unless you're doing some pre-fight prep.
@Gamer3427

Can confirm they're useful, (or at least the one that gives the bubble shield are). My roommate and I recently completed a coop playthrough, and during it we joked about how he uses a lot of items like firepots, while I almost never use consumables, so he ended up trying out more and more including the perfumer bottles. We were both surprised when we learned that there was one that gave that shield, so he started applying it all the time before we entered a boss room, letting us save our physic bottle or use it for other buffs.
@Greywander87
@Greywander87 Жыл бұрын
I kind of wish it worked a bit like the Flask of Wondrous Physick, where "materials" aren't consumed, simply allocated, and you regain uses every time you rest at a bonfire (sorry, "site of grace"). I think the consumable nature of tools like these is why a lot of people never bother to try them, but estus use is pretty much ubiquitous among all players of Souls games precisely because you get it back every time you rest, so no point in saving it for later. To be honest, I feel like the whole open world thing isn't a good fit for the Souls formula. A lot of extra features have just been weirdly glued on instead of being properly integrated, crafting being one such feature. With some tweaking I think you could make it work, but ER really does feel like "Dark Souls, but it's open world now". One of the major strengths of the Souls formula is the tight level design, something that you just can't do with an open world. I think to some degree crafting only exists because crafting materials exist, and crafting materials only exist to serve as loot to pad out exploration rewards, since the open world has a lot more places to go. Even if Dark Souls is full of weapons and armor I never end up using, it's still neat to find a unique piece of gear to add to my collection, whereas I'm getting pretty sick if finding mushrooms in ER. It's not like the respawning mushroom gatherables aren't already abundant. It kind of feels like every Souls game is a couple steps forward and a couple steps back. I appreciate that they're willing to experiment with new things, and ER adds a lot of cool new features (finally, a dedicated jump button!). But the open world and everything connected to it feels like a miss. A vestigial crafting system, disappointing loot to use in said crafting system, repeated reuse of assets (especially in tombs/basements/mini-dungeons), a wonky difficulty curve as a result of how open the world is, and so on. I think you'd need some fundamental changes to the Souls formula to make it work for an open world. Still better than most AAA open world games, but it's an interesting contrast to something like Breath of the Wild, which I think makes better use of its open world (but falls short in other areas). Basically, what I'm trying to say is that if perfumes/pots/etc. were designed to be as core to the game as the estus flask, then I think you'd see people using them a lot more. But they're not. They feel almost like an after thought, an extra.

Fully agree with you 😣 It’s a great game but like a lot of other great games, Witcher 3 comes to mind, they contain a whole lot of badly implemented ideas or options for the player. I find ER very tedious after a while because 80% of areas I explore don’t give me any reward that was worth the time. It just drags on way too long, doesn’t help that you fight the same bosses over and over while the real unique bosses are so rare in between 😢

They should reset in general. Instead of crafting items, craft the maximum limit to carry them. Consumables are such a bad mechanic in most games. It’s kinda sad how they made a good call with with flasks in DS1 and how in later titles you expand the number of uses as you play. So many options. Like craft carry capacity or increase item efficiency just like sacred tears upgrade your healing items. Farming items is like the worst mechanic of video games. It’s equivalent of paying to play the game because you actually work instead of playing, paying with time instead of money. Oh you used all consumables on this boss and still haven’t beaten him? Well too bad, all your items are now gone.

I used the shit out of aromatics/perfumes in ER, but to be completely fair, a big part of that is because I am a fragrance collector/fkn lunatic in real life. I have an embarrassingly large collection of full-sized bottles (meaning not the travel or sample sizes); just shy of 240 bottles. And yes, every bottle is a different fragrance, as I don't count backup bottles or re-releases/special editions in that count. What I mean by fragrances is just what most people in real life refer to as "cologne" and "perfume", for men and women respectively. In world of fragrances/perfumes, "cologne" is actually an indicator of concentration (one of if not *the* weakest, and usually said as "eau de cologne"), and perfume is actually far more accurate to use regardless of gender than "cologne" is. It's really a development of the west where we've put such significant emphasis on gender for perfumes, where we distinguish between masculine and feminine with "cologne" and "perfume" respectively... I *promise* I don't bust out that whole diatribe in real life - with a dramatic pushing up of my glasses with my index finger and followed by a sharply pompous *"act-ually"* anytime someone says "cologne". 😂 Also, since I always get asked, no, I'm not rich by any stretch of the imagination. I've just steadily collected my collection over quite a few years, usually bottle or a few bottles at a time. Mostly financed them through quad-pay programs like Afterpay and the like which makes it relatively easy to overcome the cost of all this scented alcohol water. Also again, no, I am not the guy who wears enough to clear out every room I enter, though I'm certainly guilty of some mishaps in that regard in the past. I believe, especially with fragrances, that less in more, and I would prefer someone not know for sure where a faint scent be coming from and have to look for it and fine me, than to announce myself without saying anything. Fragrances aren't the only reason I used perfumes in ER though. It's also in part because of Monster Hunter: World and various buff items used in that. In that game (and I assume the assumes), once you reach the very late end-game hunts, it is essentially mandatory to buff up if you want to be efficient and competitive in your hunt times. So it became second-nature to farm for and use buffs there, and they function in a quite similar manner in ER, so it was an easy habit to fall into.

I have an unhealthy addiction to uplifting aromatics, not only do they make you happy, but they also have a nice tint of lemon leaves. Also 10 bubble tear's with a bonus damage buff is also nice.

I wanted to make a perfume build for pvp and since then I've been using the Spark aromatic since. If you're dex, definitely have it on your bar. It's got a deceptive hitbox where it pretty much comes out instantly- great for setting up or against aggressive opponents, also good for invasions when they're trying to blender you. The thing is, even if you're not a dex focused build, it still does fantastic damage. Good thing to try is using the spark, even for a deterent, and doing the running R2 on a heavy thrusting sword, maybe even slap an impaling thrust somewhere on there. It's a brilliant tool. I tried to use the others (not the bubble) in arena too but I couldn't get them off lol I didn't know about the insane dmg tick on the poison one though, holy. I think perfumes wouldve been cooler if they were a type of spell and you use a perfume catalyst of some kind, idk. Or even just making it so one bottle gets a couple of uses (maybe 3 considering there's 3 in the art?). I'd balance that by only allowing some of them to have that many uses though. Imagine 30 bubbles in arena 😫 I really really hope they develop more for DLC, such an underrated tool that could be made even better - just like gravity chunks and glintstone chunks, theyre amazing

I used them!!! Barely understood them. But did dabble in due to the fact that my single favourite weapon in the game ended up being the Merias Executioner Greatsword, using the correct buffs that didn’t override each other was able to get damage up as high as 9k on a fully charged drill attack. Also had no idea there was a talisman for them...

Acid spray mist should break weapons and armor in pvp; making those items useless so you’ll have to farm another set or another play through if you don’t have a generous friend. It may seem like a harsh penalty to any caught in it, but it evens out with the low amount of formic rock available; and it would be hilarious to punish gank squads with

Pro tip if you use the Mimic Tear summon. Put one uplifting aromatic as a hotkey, and never use it. Your mimic will use it, and if you're standing close to your mimic when it does, it also gives you the buff. And it will never use YOURs, so its a free buff, forever.

Would like it if there were also perfumes that apply all the effects. Feel like that's a missed opportunity, instead of throwing dungpies or using seppuku, you could just spray on a perfume to apply the effect.

You can make the perfume that decreases your damage taken, equip it in like the 10th slot, then summon a mimic and your mimic will use it sometimes. Of course you keep yours so it’s infinite. Kinda neat.

More like 90% useless 🤔 My favorite is how you can immediately buy a crafting recipe for a useless buff that requires golden rowas, which you can only find 40-50h into the game on Altus plateau 😑

They should add a talisman that refreshes your perfumes at a site of grace instead of having them be consumables. Or have them take a lot of crafting items to make but thry e d up beung like old dark souls spells with refreshable limited casts.
